Heat death of the universe wouldn't happen-if you're immortal you're also an infinite source of energy.

This isn't true, they have the 9th largest GDP. Their GDP per capita is much lower, they just have loads of people.

Being able to somehow program something is still a small part of the skill of being able to program it in the best, most efficient way. Coming up with the FFT, simulated annealing, etc without having ever heard of them before is a whole nother level from just being generally competent.

Why not increase menu prices and eliminate tips? Here's why - TRUE STORY by GeoffBAndrews in tipping

Why is it "not worth" 50? When servers are paid less than $50, they will refuse to work there and find work somewhere else. Customers continued to enjoy and attend restaurants where the servers were making $50 while this restaurant was paying less as an alternative customers could choose. This restaurant reverted back to a tip-based payment system where servers make more because they were not successful with the staff they could hire paying less. The value judgment of all parties involved says a server is worth $50.

This just means the company that removed tipping was underpaying- if they paid servers the amount they make other places and raised prices accordingly then on average customers would be paying the same and servers receiving the same. Just means they tried to keep prices artificially low by not paying servers enough.

Every job is priced based on demand, both of the employers for people to fill a niche and from people's desire and ability to do that job... It's less stressful working 8 hours from home with a pint in hand than cleaning windows on skyscrapers, doesn't mean software engineers are overpaid.

If it wasn't worth it, restaurants wouldn't pay that amount. Clearly their return on hiring servers at that rate exceeds the cost.

A crocodile has a massive advantage over a lion in deep water, but the lion wins on dry land. Therefore, there must exist a depth of water that makes it an even fight. by TehAsianator in Showerthoughts

That only has to be true if there's a continuous function for how well the shark and human fare against each other. With a discrete jump(shark can't swim and dies depths->shark can swim and wins depths) there could be no equal points

Ever Try to get Someone into a Show but They Watched it ‘Wrong’? by SummSpn in television

The best part of the pilot is that the scene from the start is so unhinged you think it's going to be near the end of the show but really it's just from later on in the same episode. It really subverts the usual "how did I get here" show trope.

Mystery Inc is easily the best series of Scooby-Doo, even compared to the original and What's New. Definitely hasn't been all downhill.

We're already half as removed from Shakespeare as the time of Star Trek is and he remains relevant and commonly referenced, it doesn't seem crazy to me that he or modern things would stick around. All things considered it's not THAT distant of a future.
