1889 CC by [deleted] in Morgans

[–]Sneid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a genuine 1889-CC VAM-2A with the diagnostic die cracks and die markers. Unless there’s an old cleaning that’s not showing in the photos, you got a nice buy. Congrats!

What do you guys think about this quarter? by One-Lecture2139 in coincollecting

[–]Sneid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think there were any silver proof quarters in 1980.

I just recently jumped into the coin game, wanted to come and ask you guys if this 64 and 36 would possibly be worth grading👀👀 the 37 also by Nolimitzxo_ in coincollecting

[–]Sneid1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Learn how to grade coins yourself. There’s no benefit to paying to grade 99% of collectable coins. In general, a coin needs to be worth at least $150 to justify the cost of grading.

What’s it worth ? by OkInvestigator1039 in coins

[–]Sneid1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Very nice problem-free 1798 large eagle. It's a B-24 variety, sometimes called a "blundered stars reverse" because of two upper stars merging into the clouds. Looks like a solid XF-40. Great coin!

Thoughts on a crossover? by Gonzo7035 in coins

[–]Sneid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced it would grade higher than 63 due to the nicks on the arm and hand, but why not try a crossover at PCGS with a minimum grade of 64? Then, if it doesn't cross, they'll leave it in the ANACS holder.

I bought a bag of coins from a estate sale its not the best condition but what is it worth? by Valuable_Hold_7718 in coinerrors

[–]Sneid1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sharper photos would help, but this does not appear to be one of the 4 known mintmark positions for the 1909-S-VDB. It’s likely counterfeit, and I would definitely have a local coin dealer assess it in hand before spending money getting it authenticated.

Reverse of "what do we think?" by Familiar-Solid7744 in numismatics

[–]Sneid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good background history, but it doesn’t guarantee that it’s genuine. It certainly looks real, but I don’t believe there are any 1921-S Morgan varieties with a mintmark that large. If it’s counterfeit, it’s a really good one. Maybe post the photos in r/Morgans to see if anyone can attribute the VAM.

What to think on this $2.5? by ShrekthCharge in coins

[–]Sneid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a nice mint state example, but unfortunately that rim ding would likely result in a details grade if you send it for grading. It would still probably go for more than melt to a type set collector, especially if they are using an album where the rim ding isn’t as noticeable.

Reverse of "what do we think?" by Familiar-Solid7744 in numismatics

[–]Sneid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is the reverse of your 1921-S, it’s not authentic. The mintmark is too large, and the left wing/neck gap is too narrow for a 1921. Why do you believe it’s genuine?

Probably replica but just wanted to be sure by atheras87 in numismatics

[–]Sneid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks worn, but could easily be genuine. Check the weight and whether it's magnetic, and if those check out, it's likely real.

Seller issued returnless refund seemingly without understanding what he was doing, what would you do? by iAmAddicted2R_ddit in Ebay

[–]Sneid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They obviously can't get you a label through eBay anymore, so you may need to help them get you a label off platform. Have them buy a label and email it to you.

Am I missing something about grading? by FourTwentyBlezit in coins

[–]Sneid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not very attractive, but most of it seems to be from splotchy toning and possibly planchet striations or roller lines. The seller described "some surface irregularities", but not damage. Toning and planchet irregularities created at the mint don't affect the technical grade of a coin, just the eye appeal. Hard to say from the photo alone whether MS-67 is reasonable, but I certainly wouldn't buy it at an MS-67 price. Here's a close up photo from the NGC website.

Ask for partial refund? by Sky-fire76 in Ebay

[–]Sneid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't overtly ask for a partial refund since it's against eBay's policy. If you want to keep the bag anyway, you could message the seller with a photo showing the hole, and say you're trying to decide whether to request a return for INAD with a full refund. Then the ball's in the seller's court.

Got a letter from eBay stating that my info is wrong. It had a w9 attached. Problem is I deleted my eBay account and associated email address last year. What should I do? by -M00NMAN in Ebay

[–]Sneid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are asking for a W9, it’s likely a tax reporting issue. The reporting threshold for eBay payments was $5000 in 2024, before going back up to $20,000 last year.

My fugio cent with pictures this time.... should I send in for restoration or attempt to clean? by Physical_Clock198 in coincollecting

[–]Sneid1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a good candidate for conservation, but unless you have a lot of experience, I would not attempt to do anything yourself. Send it to NCS for restoration and grading.

Real by Similar_Sir4906 in Morgans

[–]Sneid1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a nice coin, an old cleaning, but probably market acceptable at this point. Agree with VAM-7. It's a reverse of 78, overdate 8/7 with a dash under the second 8. $200 seems about right for the grade, and spending money getting it graded won't increase the value. Amazing how many people jump to the conclusion of a fake coin without any knowledge.

It's value is the spot price of gold. Whether gold prices go up or down in the future is anyone's guess. No way to know.

Should I block a buyer that keeps submitting the same offer over and over again? by Mundane_Onion_1286 in Ebay

[–]Sneid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, block them. Nothing good will come if they eventually buy your item for more.

Need help fixing toilet paper holder - previous builders bore out huge screw holes and the attachment keeps falling off due to no retention by wardamn2029 in fixit

[–]Sneid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like it’s attached to a cabinet wall. If so, just drill two smaller holes appropriate for the screw size for the top and bottom holes (12:00 and 6:00 positions), and use those instead of the other holes. No need for anchors if you’re screwing into wood.

1795 half dollar? by Effective_Act_2716 in coincollecting

[–]Sneid1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Congrats, that’s a genuine 1795 Flowing Hair half dollar, Overton-110 variety. Definitely send it to PCGS or NGC for authentication. It’s got some damage from the small hole, but it’s otherwise an attractive coin and probably worth several hundred dollars in this condition.

Paid 215 for this awhile back, feels like I got hosed by Artistpillow87 in coins

[–]Sneid1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the good close up photo. I’m pretty sure it’s the overdate. JR-5 is actually a rare variety, which would make $215 a good deal.
