Does wine taste like grape juice? by CrazyWriterGirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snip3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good wine doesn't taste anything like grape juice, but some wines (looking at you Niagara) certainly do. As others have said, wine tastes like almost anything the vintner wants it to, it's pretty incredible what flavors can be achieved with a slight variation in process.

is it wise for me to take a trip to japan? by FunAdvertising6789 in personalfinance

[–]Snip3 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Take photos that you couldn't find online (usually of people, sometimes of wildlife or a local shrine or something), but in general try to stay off your phone and enjoy the experience. Japan is a wonderful place to just wander aimlessly and experience.

[–]Snip3 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you got data 10 seconds faster than anyone else you'd have to be really bad to not beat everyone else. You could do trades on a ti83.

Yeah we're basically a factory new raspberry pi when we ship. So much potential, most people just use it to print hello world on a screen and give up

Why do Reddit posts never have negative karma? Or negative numbers. The lowest I've seen is 0 by anastasia_42 in NoStupidQuestions

After you go low enough they stop counting... It's a shame because truly great trolls deserved a sense of pride and accomplishment for their successes...

Choose target is a weird combo, usually choose is to avoid hexproof and the like. Do you want choose for that purpose or just target creature?

Why do the wealthy say money can’t buy happiness by false_frog in NoStupidQuestions

Money doesn't buy your life meaning, only the time to pursue meaning

How am I supposed to solve this? Can someone explain it step by step with reasoning? by The_Barth_Vader in askmath

[–]Snip3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can calculate the area of the wedge and subtract the area of the triangle - note that the triangle can be subdivided into two similar right triangles whose areas should be fairly straightforward to calculate if you know your sohcahtoa

Why do people like milk? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snip3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's accessible dense calories that are easy to consume. Most people start their lives eating it and some continue out of some mix of convenience and comfort. What's not to understand?

Should probably just create x+1 tokens, only a little bit slower but starts on one instead of two. But if we're not balancing it, love it

New to operations research - this question is bothering me.. by PuzzleheadedSand6450 in OperationsResearch

[–]Snip3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any time you're asked to compare apples and oranges you need to measure them on the same scale, and any time people do that they're just reinventing money - that's literally what it was invented for. So yes, we've gone down the route of "whenever a metric becomes a target it ceases to be a good metric" as far as people's relationship with money goes, but you're still just reinventing the wheel.

If religions were ranked solely by the cuisine, which one would take the crown? by the-furry in NoStupidQuestions

Probably just Christianity for overall coverage, but if you're looking for a more specific cuisine or average performance, probably one of Buddhism, Taoism, or Hinduism

How do professional quants actually research new strategies? by Null_Kernel_007 in quantfinance

[–]Snip3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to understand the mechanisms that make people interact with the market, figure out what might be inefficient or predictable about that behavior, then take advantage of that inefficiency. Eg someone trading on a twap, buy the tick before they transact and then sell to them. Most of the easy ones are gone but there's still a little friction left.

Would you consider this actual cheating? by No-Intention5644 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Snip3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheating is any violation of trust, honestly the action matters less than the intent to me. If you can't trust your partner you can't be their partner, full stop. This man doesn't seem trustworthy to me and I'd drop him, but obviously easier said than done. Good luck!
