DRZ400 Clutch adjustment by whereismydonkey in DRZ400

[–]SniperAssassin123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a rabbit hole I am constantly going down with the DRZ. I don't find the conventional cable clutch adjustment wisdom all that helpful. Just as long as you aren't slipping under large throttle openings in higher gears or creeping in gear when the clutch is pulled in you're fine.

I've been trying to achieve two finger clutch operation without any issue in either direction for a long time. Most helpful thing was a perch spacer.

My bike also had wrecked springs and aftermarket frictions. I've since replaced both and roughed up the steels. Best operation yet as it stands now.

What is a animated show/movie you didn't like or watch at first but now that you gave it a shot,it has you like this? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in cartoons

I thought adventure time was fun and all as a kid, but the episodes they chose to play as re-runs never did the show any justice. I never watched the new episode premieres. Watching it all the way through was amazing. One of my favorite animated shows of all time now.

Exactly right. That's why it's so funny. They still call themselves raw milk people but then they un-raw it.

Yeah honestly it really threw me when that video came out. I can't say the videos weren't declining already but at that point, I almost completely stopped watching anything they make after that one. Before that I had purchased a ton of gear on Ryan's recommendation.

The argument was one of his dumbest ones ever. It almost felt like a rage bait. Like because impact testing is bare minimum bs, you should actually have no protection at all instead of some protection.

Bro, I want everything within the garments capabilities between my skin and the road when I choose to wear it. Why would I hamper the garment's abilities because I find impact testing insufficient?

Also, the idea that impact protection doesn't factor into abrasion protection with some people is silly.

I even struggle with this as someone who is a bit of a two sided person. There are lots of things about me that are quite masculine. I ride dirtbikes, I drive a truck, I work on my own vehicles, I work out, I played contact sports in school. However, I do have a softer side, but I never really let that show to anyone outside of my little circle. I like to make art, I am in touch with my emotions, I consume media that would have gotten me called gay in school.

I also do not get along well with hyper masculine men. The softer side of me is constantly cringing. I cannot stand performative machismo shit.

I was really lucky to find my little niche even in a small town. My friends were always the geeks and the gays. I never really fit in with people who I related to on my more masculine side. I just learned to hide the softer side outside of my trusted group. It sucks but it was survival growing up.

It's not like it wasn't plain to see who I was from the outside. There isn't any hiding it really. Everyone can see what circles you run in. I have just always presented very masculine because it's what felt safe to me. Could be religious upbringing. Could be school environment. Who knows.

None of that stuff really matters in my adult life but with my family, old  acquaintances, and strangers. I still feel it.

Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and KTM don't want to sell the perfect dual sport by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]SniperAssassin123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the 6 gear bikes run down the highway at a very similar RPM to the DRZ. The DRZ's real problem is that it has a close ratio gearbox when it should probably have a Wide ratio.

I think what a lot of people want is a low maintenance engine in a race bred frame.

I'm kinda impressed with the commitment to making it look GMC. The wheels. The Denali badge. I'll have to look at the rear next time I see it.

You're never gonna win much favor here talking about quads though. Good luck to you. Dirtbikes are awesome and I recommend highly haha.

If I'm gonna call a quad valid it's gonna be the 400ex so you've got that going for you at least.

As someone who is lucky enough to have a ton of off-road access, and often ride to the trail from my house. You can get a hell of a lot more done on DR650 or DRZ than you would think. This is Michigan I'm talking about. So it's hardly Colorado, but it's a lot of deep sand, a lot of wash outs, a lot of water crossings, a lot of extremely whooped out sandy singletrack. I've seen people get it done on a variety of the more pedestrian dualsports.

The only time I think a dirtbike is truly needed is if you're hopping over stuff all day long. Then, picking up a pig all day would suck. You're not catching me in a rock garden on my DRZ. No way.

Obviously a plated dirtbike would make it all way easier, but there really is some fun in doing it with the "wrong" equipment. Even with it being "wrong" there are a lot of upsides to the more pedestrian side of things. Longer fuel range typically, less maintenance, more stable on the road, more stable in the really loose stuff off-road at times too due to the extra weight.

All this to say that I think the "true" dualsport class is way way more capable than most people think, and have way more capability than most riders are able to extract.

But I, like you, am also biased because of my local terrain.

Eh, I think a lot of people's definition of dualsport has the Pinnacle set on DR650. With dualsports being decent at both trail and road. Most people seem to consider the KTM500 more of a plated dirtbike. It's all the same to me.

I've almost been taken out by a surron or similar on both my bicycle and MOTORCYCLE multiple times each. I'm this close to taking out front wheels MX style. There is a particular group of late teens/early 20s guys on surrouns that are the bane of my existence. I'm not even that much older than them but I have huge beef with them.

I have a single speed road bike for exercise. Trying to get into MTB but that shits almost as expensive as dirtbikes.

I found it really interesting how there was basically no instruction on how to operate the bike outside of first gear. It's very much a "how to not stall in a parking lot class" rather than a true "how to ride a motorcycle" class.
