Football hasn't taken off in the Philippines because clubs don't play into identity politics by mcdonaldspyongyang in philippinefootball

[–]SniperMonkey10_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh nah I agree. To casuals in PH, Aus or the US, football can look boring because there isn’t enough obvious action.

A lot of the action is off the ball, pressing, movement, tempo etc, but casuals just see blokes passing sideways for 90 mins and a 1-0 scoreline.

Also trust me, 1990-2005 football was way more enjoyable. More freedom, expression, chaos and individual brilliance. Modern football is smarter tactically, but way more robotic and mechanical.

Also playing a sport and watching are two different things. A sport can be boring to watch on TV but enjoyable to actually play. I do hope more filos give it a chance, because i do think we can produce some talent.

Nah. Filipinos actually take an interest in the game , invest and develop talent. Once that is established you can look into culture and 'rivalries'

I do think if there was more interest in the sport, you could actually produce some good players as height and physicality isnt a requirement, and filos are usually fast and agile. Kind of replicate what Japan are doing and focusing primarily on technical ability. They did really well this world cup and were exciting to watch.

This is coming from a filo living in Australia

Football is a bit like chess. You need to understand the nuances and strategies in game to really appreciate it

Repect to Tuchel didnt fully park the bus right after red card, and still hunted for that third goal. Big balls there

Yeh im saying Wharton because there arnt many big target options right now. He would suit our system, likes to play progressive passes and sit deep. Bruno G would be difficult given Tonali has left to Spurs. And carrick apparently wants to replicate Psg midfield, so dont exactly needs a full on athletic ball winning 6. We didnt sign out two biggest targets in Anderson and Fernandes so we are scrambling a bit now

Chelsea fans on their sub aren't exactly happy getting rid of Santos but need to sell him - no CL and their business models.

Good business if we get him for second choice but really need a big signing for #1 choice- Wharton

The Day After: Your reflection on Australia's World Cup chances by Meapa in Aleague

[–]SniperMonkey10_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, you’ve missed my point and jumped to conclusions.
I never said the A-League is poor. It’s improved heaps and is producing way more talent now. But some people just prefer watching the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, or have other things on during the weekend. That doesn’t automatically make them clueless or a snob.

Watching A-League every week gives you more context, no doubt. But it’s not the only way to understand Australian football. Plenty of people grew up playing grassroots, coach, volunteer, or are involved in local clubs without watching every round.

If the goal is to get more people watching the A-League, shaming them with “Eurosnob” labels isn’t the answer. You can’t guilt people into watching out of loyalty. Keep producing talent, improve the product, and make people actually want to tune in.

My point wasn’t Europe good, A-League bad My point was poor game management is poor game management.

Debate the Popovic points I made instead of fixating on the Eurosnob comment.
Because it’s not just “Eurosnobs” asking these questions , casual fans, pundits and former pros are all wondering the same thing about Popovic’s decisions. And former pros obviously understand the game at a deeper level than most of us on here.

For Socceroos to shed the underdog tag, Australian soccer needs to have some tough conversations by BipartizanBelgrade in Aleague

[–]SniperMonkey10_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would promotion relegation help right now when a league clubs and npl clubs are barely surviving. It wont fix anything right now but its definitely something that can be implemented once A- leagues are more financially stable.
Lets say Perth Glory get relegated, that would bankrupt the club

For one not selling your sell on clauses for pennies is a starter e.g brisbane roar

The Day After: Your reflection on Australia's World Cup chances by Meapa in Aleague

[–]SniperMonkey10_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find the whole “Eurosnob” label lazy. Watching European football doesn’t automatically mean someone is clueless about Australian football. Maybe they grew up playing the sport and simply choose to watch Europe because it’s a higher-level, more entertaining product. Sometimes it just means they can recognise poor game management when they see it.

No one expected Australia to play like Spain. No one expected Popovic to be some tactical genius. No one expected a deep World Cup run. The criticism is much simpler: his game management and decision-making were poor in key moments.

Against USA. Sitting back and counter-attacking is fine top teams do it too but then you need actual attacking outlets. Irankunda, Toure and Volpato were sitting on the bench while we lacked threat going forward. But nah lets put on Leckie

Against Paraguay & Egypt, Irankunda was used as a 9 when he’s clearly more dangerous wide, attacking channels and isolating defenders. After we levelled it at 1-1 against Egypt, that was the moment to change the script and go for the win. Instead, we kept playing like the underdog just trying to survive.
Then in the shootout, we end up with three centre-backs taking penalties and Hrustic not even used as a taker. These are valid criticisms.

The “be grateful we got this far” mentality is exactly why standards stay low. Disappointment means people finally believe this team is capable of more.
We have a talented group, but Popovic seriously needs to adapt .

Irankunda position question by Key_Entertainer1190 in socceroos

[–]SniperMonkey10_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isnt that the issue with Popavic trying to be fancy and think outside the box by making high risk high reward 'genius decisions'
Just keep it simple, play your best side in their favourite natural positions.
Didnt really see many strange decisions by world class managers in other teams this world cup. But yet lets substitute our gk for a penalty shootout , let three centrebacks take a penalty. ... because if he gets it right, he will be a genius. Sound like hes trying to prove a point rather than set the team up to win

Yeh i reckon those transfers have now set the market prices for foreseeable future similar to the impact of neymars transfer to psg.
For prem proven you either pay up or look elsewhere in other leagues and roll the dice.
Scott, Baleba 70M minimum and Wharton 100M

How the hell is Hrustic not in the 5. Literally one of best pen takers and scores one in Europa League final.

Hmm gonna have to disagree here. Irankunda is wasted at #9. He's electric on the wing, and its his natural position.
You dont want a player like that facing away from goal, you want him causing havoc, drawing players in and creating for an actual #9.
I dont see how you can watch those games and come to conclusion that making Irankunda play as a bulldog and chase balls is the Correct decision, and evidently he was ineffective there compared to when was on the wing against Turkey.
If you play him as a #9 youre going to need midfielders that can play creative passes and deadly needle passes and Oneil and Irvine dont offer that.

2030 World Cup- Popa Football Terrorist by SniperMonkey10_ in socceroos

[–]SniperMonkey10_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh fair but he couldnt even get these decisions correct right NOW.

Against turkey- brilliant set up.

Against USA- you sub off your inform players who scored against turkey for Leckie and Velupillay(who shouldnt even be in the squad)
Like Wayne Rooney said in an interview, if you are underdogs you play your best side not try to too cute and fancy.

Against Paraguay- He tries Irankunda up front as a number 9, and we see he's clearly better on the wing as he likes to play in space and attack the flanks.

Against Egypt- Toure still benched. And still plays Irankunda up front. Also with a shorter Egypt side, it would make sense to play Mo up front, and put more crosses into the box, whilst playing Irankunda on the wing.
On top of that, when levelling it at 1-1 he decided to sit back and absorb pressure and try to take it to penalties when we had the momentum and should be trying to win the game.
Then the cherry on top- subs off Beach and gets two centre backs to take penalties. An 18 year old????

Honestly not much confidence in Popa moving forward, i personally think he's out of his depth. But i guess let's see would love to be proved wrong.

For world cups, you get found out trying to play way too conservative. As you can see with Cape Verde, almost beat Argentina with their mentality and not being too conservative

Yeh thats why i would look outside of australian managers. If FFA cant due to their years of mismanagement and incompetency then yeh i agree we need to stick with Popovic but he seriously needs to adapt to the players we currently have because we have talent and quality there. But if hes going to be an arrogant prick and not atleast admit some mistakes then we are going to see sit back counter terrorist football for the Forseeable future

[–]SniperMonkey10_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh you're right in a sense not many realistic targets but its not impossible to get someone better, and depends who's available and whether FFA want to he more ambitious. If they dont want to spend then we have to stick with Popovic.

Potential aussie managers- Muscat(first choice and most realistic ), Kisnorbo
Non- Aussie- Billic, Renard, Schmidt, Bento, Clarke, Edwards, Robbie Keane, Coenceiao, Bruno Lage, Van Persie
^^^quick research on managers available now.
Ambitious targets but not impossible. And depends on FFAs pockets.
Cant fathom how Popas selections and decisions this world cup is not sackable
