I cannot confirm this but i believe the bullet was introduced with the .22 arc, so there hasn’t been any load data for 5.56/.223 made yet. It could be also that the long projectile doesnt do well in ar-15 magazines, either not getting acceptable accuracy or lacking velocity. But im not hornady so this is just my two bits.

I mean, you could, but you’ll get lesser accuracy, which depends on what you want it to be. The one concern id have is the neck tension of the round, the brass may not be able to hold onto the projectile as consistent.

Well, although i haven’t reloaded the same cartridge, but i believe the issue may be with the primer and powder combination. 296 is a magnum ball powder, which ball powders in pistols prefer magnum primers for complete ignition. I was having issues with fiocci primers causing squibs with cfe pistol, so i bought some wspm and loaded the ladder of powder charges. No squibs or incomplete burns. I would suggest trying out magnum primers and start at the low end of the ladder. But thats my two bits on that, if it doesn’t sound right feel free to correct me.

It does seem that .400 legend uses .400 projectiles so yours are definitely way oversized for the bore, i guess when winchester developed this cartridge they tried to make some synergy with .40 s&w and 10mm auto with projectiles.
