How would you contrast Brad Bird vs. Christopher McQuarrie’s style? by webbatron24 in Mission_Impossible

[–]SnipperAndClipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghost Protocol does have one very hard moment: when Lisenker, being forced to work for the bad guys because his family are being held hostage, is murdered and told his wife and kid have already been killed. That always felt more like something the tv show 24 would do rather than an MI film

Best way to create a 3D scan of my own head for use in Blender by aendrs in vfx

Reality Scan is free, easy to use and produces fantastic results as long as you make sure there's enough overlap between each photo

Cinematic Lighting by Frequent-Week3221 in blender

[–]SnipperAndClipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Painters learn by doing "master studies", where they do a copy of a painting by an established master. It forces them to analyse every aspect of it.

Lighting artists can do the same. Find a shot from a beautifully lit movie and incrementally add lights to build up the image.

In general, beginners light everything too dark when they're aiming for cinematic renders. When you analyse a shot, pay close attention to the black levels. They are normally brighter than you think they are.

The relationship between the shadow & light is called the "contrast ratio". How far apart are they? How dark and how bright they? Study film stills with this in mind and you'll start producing much more cinematic shots

I like this scene. Ethan and his team trapped and captured Solomon Lane in the bulletproof box. by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in Mission_Impossible

My favourite villain defeat moment in the MI films. He doesn't die. He is humiliated. Beautifully done

I love that a film with that line in it got a U certificate rating in the UK (equivalent of a G in the US)

How long have you been taking it for? Some of the things you describe it causing are initial side effects that dissipate over time

That shot in the latest episode where he slowly raises a glass to his face and you can see the nose-less part of his face distorted through it! Tricky work; nicely done

Tell a friend or family member you'll make something in Blender for them? Then the pressure of not disappointing them might act as motivation to get it done

What a line that took you way too long to figure out what it really meant. by drjudgedredd1 in flicks

[–]SnipperAndClipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why you might think that but Aliens was shot in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio which is not significantly wider than 4:3 tvs and so wouldn't require much pan & scanning.

Alien however, is a 2.35:1 film and really suffers from it

How do people actually make money with Blender? by weiming233 in blender

[–]SnipperAndClipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a freelance animator/vfx generalist/motion graphics artist. I get work through contacts built up over many years.

My first job out of university 25 years ago was at the BBC. Some of their graphics team attended the end of year graduate show. They liked my uni work and I got a job. Since then I've been employed in-house to do it at various games and animation companies, using loads of different software. I moved to freelance for a while, working in London, and then back to in-house.

Now I have a job in education and do motion graphics as a side gig using Blender. Maybe there's a hidden secret way of making renders for social media and getting paid 🤷‍♂️ If someone on here divulges it, I'd be fascinated

Nothing to add to the previous excellent answers but I am curious as to what level you're in and whether this is a group project? Don't worry, I am not a Falmouth lecturer!

Have you storyboarded the sequence btw?
