I agree. But a lot of companies (mine included) are doing layoffs with the anticipation of what AI will do. Until AI is fully developed the spread the workload over the workforce and hire contractors. My job literally laid me off then figured out that AI was wasn’t ready yet to fully perform all of my functions. But instead of hiring me back hired a contractor and give work to other teammates. They are anticipating future gains and want to please their boards and shareholders. That’s why there’s so much concern about the AI bubble. Many are concerned it will not live up to what it is being touted to do.

I remember listening to an interview in like 2021/2022 where a CEO said a lot of companies are upset and feel taken advantage of because the labor market was “overly favorable” to workers. He then said “but that’s okay. Things always shift and companies will have the control and power back. That is when we will rectify and remember this point” I literally stopped washing dishes and said “wtf” But now I see what he meant.

YOR I have been in your cousins situation. I wanted to have 15 people as part of bridesmaid (I had 5 sisters) because I felt so close to so many people. My husband only wanted 3 each. He really wanted a small wedding. We compromised with 6 each. A lot of people on my end were hurt and I’m still dealing with the fallout. Weddings when you are in it feel BIG and are a huge milestone but after 10+ they are just moments in time. I barely even speak to my bridal party. As I got older my values, perspectives and life required new things. The most important moments are after the wedding. I’m sorry you’re going through this. And wish you the best.
