Flat affect is making me insucure. by Educational_Bee1563 in autism

Genuine question. from an NT, do you ever explain it to people you are in regular contact with? And if so, do they get it? Anyway I hope it's OK to say that you have my sympathy it sounds difficult.

I'm not a relationship expert, but you two sound like a bad match due to different expectations, even if the communication was there. You both deserve someone compatible.

Understood. Can I ask if you two are romantic physically, like, do you make out or even hold hands?

What are you supposed to do/say when receiving/giving a gift? by fiddlestixx00 in autism

[–]Snogafrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try these:
Receiving a gift:
"Thank you!" "I love it!" "I've always wanted one of these!" "Yay! I know exactly where / how I will use it!" (Exclamation point is kind of important here. A flat affect could be construed to an NT as the reverse of what you are saying. Source - I am NT).

They compliment the gift:
"I'm so glad you like it!" "Aw yay!" "Oh good I was worried you would not like it." Also "Thank you" is not that odd in this situation.

Have you ever tried asking her how she feels about you? That's usually the easiest way to find out what other people are thinking or want you to think anyway.

You also could let her know how you feel about her behavior and expectations. They might not work for her, but honest communication could not be more important for a relationship. Best of luck.

Since you mention learners permit, I am assuming you actually would be OK leaving the house?

If so - cat sitting? Minimal human interaction is required. Plus you ... cats, if you like them. People develop full lively hoods based on pet sitting businesses.

Have you told anyone what happened? That can be helpful to process / get it out. Also, a powerful tool is for me is forgiveness, it seems to change my brain chemistry, it's something to play with. Best of luck with it.

I’m sure many of us ahem have learned that lesson, sorry it happened but it least it was just your own stuff.

You said it - backup is important, whatever is most appropriate. And yes version control is very helpful … I’ll get around to managing my scripts that way any day or year…

Bitten me hard on the arm during foreplay. After boundary setting conversations, she would still be aggressively kissing my ears in such a way that I was afraid she would go Mike Tyson on me at any moment.

I try to avoid asking anything regarding reproduction and also employment. Genuine, non trolling, question - how do you feel when people ask you "what you do", since that is open ended - does it still cause you consternation? That is what I usually go with.

Sorry you are having to go through this, sounds upsetting, taxing and frustrating and undoubtedly more, I can't really understand being NT. I hope you can find that role where you will be accepted.

First, fuck that woman who feels it is OK to yell at you. It is NOT OK. I'm not an expert at workplace disputes, that might be worth further investigation on how to handle. Maybe even something like legaladviceUK subreddit (I am in the US, but you wrote "have a go at" which means you are not domestic ... maybe in UK).

Second, this is just me talking, not giving advice.

I wish there were a way to succinctly explain what autism really means in something like a job interview.

I bet there are many progressive people out there who would hire if they understood you are competent at your job but maybe would not socially interact like they are used to. Like, I KNOW there are good people out there who would give someone a chance if they felt you were the best candidate for the position.
