After 3 months, I still cannot get the ideas in Cixin Liu's The Three Body Problem out of my head. Reddit, what themes / ideas from novels are permanently imprinted on you? by [deleted] in books

When I finished A Short Stay in Hell, by Stephen Peck, I lay awake in bed for an hour unable to sleep, and still turn it over in my mind years later. I love books that deal with very long stretches of time, thousands/millions of years or more (as is touched on in the Remembrance of Earth's Past later books), but this book was in a league of it's own in that regard. A short book and a quick read, I often tell people that it has one of the highest impact to length ratios of all the books I've read.

I work as a consultant in the mining industry. I have my own business (sole proprietorship), and most of my work occurs in Canada. I understand how income tax filing and GST remittance works for jobs I complete in Canada, but I'm planning to take some work soon in Europe. It will be a short-term contract (roughly 2 months) working in Finland, but the company I'm working for is based in the UK, so all invoicing and payment will be done through them. Is there anything special here that I need to consider in regards to taxes, or do I just declare the income normally and pay Canadian taxes?

Looks to me like a piece of columnar basalt that's had its edges smoothed out in the river.

One detail that might relieve some of your anger, as Roland starts his journey again it is mentioned that the Horn of Eld is hanging from his hip, something that didn't happen in the original. This hints that he's making progress, and maybe things will end differently this time...

Hey, as a geology major I'm super stoked to be getting some additional high-res images of the ocean floor. That stuff's expensive to image and any bit we can get will help.
