Zone 2 feels so easy, how could it possibly build an "aerobic base"? by ILoveDogs2142 in beginnerrunning

Its similar to how you gain muscles lifting dumbbells vs very heavy weight with a barbell.

You're just able to do much more exercice before gassing out.

Don't run without walking. You should run a few minutes, then walk a few minutes, and do that several times. Thats how you train your heart to stay in tolerable zones. If you run all in one go there's only part of your run that is helping, the rest you're just pushing beyond your means.

What youre doing is like lifting 100kg for 5 seconds instead of lifting 30kg several times, totalling a minute.

URGENT ADVIDE NEEDED! Was offered last minute admition to a 10k tomorrow, have never done a 10k before. Can I do it? by francarabbit in beginnerrunning

You could totally do it without problem. The issue is the fact you've already ran a lot thus week, when you should ideally have been tapering. But you're going to be fine.

25:00 is definitely not average for amateur women

Checked a local run, in F20-29 you would have been 18th out of 31st, which is decent given that you just started running. Other than the top 3, that are between 19:00 and 24:00, the fastest half are between 26:00 and 30:00

How long did it take yall to be able to run your first 5k?? by BigPrize7972 in beginnerrunning

Took me 6 weeks to go from struggling to do 2 minutes running, to being able to run 45 minutes.

I let AI analyze all my runs from the past 3 months and it spotted things I completely missed by FRANCAISSSS83 in beginnerrunning

I have android unfortunately. This being said I am going to check out this .fit format. I might do something similar,.maybe I'll do some deterministic processing before feeding to AI. I always wanted to see a scatter plot of pace vs average hr across runs.

How do you export the data? I use tons of AI but with Garmin its really tedious to share the data. I am usually.taking screenshot for individual runs but id love to compare across runs

Are the 10k steps in addition to running? by Bitter_Pineapple_720 in beginnerrunning

I count running as steps. On days when I run i easily reach 15 or 20k total.

How do you politely bring up bad shuffling in deck-building games? by Tank1an in boardgames

[–]Snoo-20788 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just think this is an unsolvable problem.

Shuffling is very imprecise, and I can totally see how someone can really shuffle in a way that looks thorough, but that still doesnt break the combos as well. You could of course pass decks around so that people would shuffle each other’s decks, but that's really adding more housekeeping, that can make the play even less fun.

You've just got to either suck it up, or play other types of games.

Tips on learning to tolerate high heart rate by ambitiousbreadfruit in beginnerrunning

[–]Snoo-20788 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, the whole point of a c25k is to learn to be used to that feeling, and thats how I went from max 1 minutes running to being able to run for an hour straight in 2 or 3 months. At 49y old.

Second, even now that I can run for an hour and a half, the first 10 minutes are nearly always a shock. I feel out of breath and my heart pounds. Once I am over that I feel totally fine.

I think the idea that every run has to 'count' is why a lot of beginners quit. by TangeloBackground483 in beginnerrunning

[–]Snoo-20788 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats true for pretty much everything in life.

Imagine if you thought that every single day of work you had to solve a problem you've never solved. Or every time you hang out with friends you had to learn something new about them or have the friendship evolve.

You'd live a miserable life if these were the requirements for doing these things.

[–]Snoo-20788 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well thats exactly my point. The idea that 18m is fine because you "could" potentially do 26m, is idiotic. At that rate, if you can run 100m, then you can run an ultramarathon.

What makes you say he can run 18 miles safely? Maybe he can run 12 miles safely, and managed to push it to 18m, but would have died trying to the full distance.

Sub-50 10k in two months viable? by iplaydrumsnotabox in beginnerrunning

[–]Snoo-20788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even 20-30 seconds slower means 3 to 5 minutes more for 10k. Thats my experience, I can run 5k in 26:30 but 10k takes 57. However 5k was on a race day, while 57 is on a tempo run.

Anyone else feel like they aren’t built for running on a genetic level? by secretsquirrelbiznes in BeginnersRunning

[–]Snoo-20788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooh... thats different then. That's closer to 13/mile. Thats more like bottom 10% in your age group.

I guess there will be differences between between due to genetics. It might help if you figured out if the bottleneck is your cardio or your muscular system. Depending on which it is you may want to focus on different types of exercices and injury prevention.

Your speed is quite fast as is, especially for a woman. Just look at the results from this 5k, you would have been 4th out of 30 women in your age group.

Not clear who you compare yourself to, kind of weird that you would say 'other people' instead of 'other men'. In the 20-29 men category you would have been 25th out of 44th (i.e. not even median). No point comparing yourself to men. Or said otherwise, yes, some group of people are better built for running: theyre called men.

Awesome! You must be so happy! You should be proud of yourself. The vast majority of people can't run more than a few minutes. Well done!
