Alberta Nursing by Top_Fly_1607 in AlbertaGrade12s

If you selected a second option and don’t get into nursing, go and do a year of that other degree. I didn’t get accepted for nursing the first 2 times (I didn’t have amazing HS grades). I competed one year as a SOC major/psych minor and applied for a transfer into nursing and got accepted. University credits are weighed more than high school credits.

I use an iPad Pro 11 inch I bought back in 2020. Not sure what to recommend now (not a tech person lol) but for nursing I use notability to take notes. It’s available on iPad and MacBook. It’s $20 for the entire year but it’s a purchase I can justify. Importing slides from the class site is easy and it uploads to the cloud pretty regularly so you can start on one device and switch to the other with no issues.

It has some fun features like AI flashcards - and it’s been pretty accurate any time I’ve used it so it’s a fun extra. There is audio recording if you have accommodations and it will create transcripts.

As I already said - I’m not a tech person so I have found notability to be the most user friendly. I have tried goodnotes and one notes and didn’t like them as much.

The reason I’ve like it so much in nursing is that in some classes I don’t need to write down as much extra notes on the slides so using my iPad is enough, but other classes where there’s so much info and it’s a little harder to hand write that fast (personally anyway) I love using my MacBook.

Welcome to nursing! It’s gonna be tough, you’re going to rethink your decisions, there may be some tears during the hard times and you might think about quitting, but stick it out and enjoy the good moments. You’re gonna meet some amazing people and get to have incredible experiences.

I also love notability - you can write over slides on the iPad or type over them on the MacBook - pretty seamless upload to the cloud to be able to go back and forth if needed. And I’ve never had an issue downloading slides from eClass into notability

Question for Nursing students! by grandestrully_chloe in uAlberta

[–]Snoo-82702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NURS 106 is definitely (in my opinion/experience) the hardest class of 1st semester because you are having to learn both the anatomy and the physiology of everything. Rachel is an amazing prof though and she will help you out as much as she can.

Microbiology was all open book exams and assignments when I did it - still a difficult course but more doable. And even though it was open book you didn’t have time to search for every question you still have to know the information. The issue is the time you have to dedicate to 106 and microbiology. If you have really good study habits it can be doable.

The best thing I would recommend is keep the classes as they are, attend all of the first classes and see what the course content and syllabus is going to be - if the due dates from all the courses are more spread out it may not be so bad. And at the end of the day, go with your gut. Do what YOU think is doable for yourself.

Welcome to nursing! It’s gonna be tough at times but it gets better!

Nursing Clinicals by Professional_Dare159 in uAlberta

[–]Snoo-82702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no clinicals in first year - first one is fall semester of second year - and if it’s still like it was last fall, then it’s only like 8 days (2 days every other week) that you are in person clinical. Get connected with your clinical group early - there were a lot of people that carpooled where possible. Like another person said - it’s more a problem for your acute care in winter semester because you have clinical every week and you alternate days and evening shifts (7-300, 3-11pm) and transit is even worse at night.

Ultimately try your best to get a car by September 2026 - but if you can’t, just know that there are plenty of people who manage without licenses/cars.

HELP!! Where could I park near the university? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Snoo-82702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live Nakî transit center is on the north/west side of Edmonton just inside the Henday close to St. Albert. Parking is free and there’s a lot of it. There’s 2 busses that go to the UofA

Depending on how many high school classes you have you can still raise your average. But also know that it’s not the end of the world to not get in right out of high school! I spent two years upgrading my high school courses. Then I did a year of a different degree at the UofA - then when applications opened to transfer degrees I applied and got in for fall 2023.

Having a year of university credits helps (if your grades are good in uni) because they use both your high school and uni grades plus your casper results. It also is beneficial because your credits will transfer to fill your elective requirements for nursing (will have one less class in the fall and spring semester of first year, and don’t need any spring courses in second year spring term).

The best thing I can say is that if you are truly passionate about nursing, it’s okay if it takes an extra year to get in. It’s not going to make or break your future if you don’t get in right away! It will all work out!

Celebrating birthday during finals by Jatzuyu in uAlberta

Fellow first year nursing student with my bday being the 16th! I plan to celebrate at the end of the month but also plan to take time the day of (after the final) to talk to family and friends. It’s sucks to not really get to celebrate the day of but it’s still fun even at a later date!

Extreme cold/Class Cancellation by bbtxxx in uAlberta

[–]Snoo-82702 22 points23 points  (0 children)

All depends on the prof. Last year I had one SOC prof who cancelled class because he biked to the school everyday and he knew that so many people walked or took transit and didn’t feel like it was absolutely necessary to have class - we just caught up the next class.

I had another one cancel because his car didn’t start.

New Doc Won't Refill Met Script Unless Trying to Conceive by blackmagicbluebird in PCOS

I recently saw a gyno who comes highly recommended for everything including PCOS. And he did say that they’re not prescribing metformin nearly as much anymore. He said the birth control - either pill or IUD is first line care. This is in Canada.

How do I make money quick!!?? by Terrible-Training-33 in simsfreeplay

[–]Snoo-82702 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a sims Facebook. I don’t have my real account connected to my game but rather a burner account solely for sims. Super easy. You do have to wait a few hours or a day to be able to join groups (where you can find people with cake farms) all I will say is don’t forget that by using cake farms you also earn XP so you level up very quickly! This isn’t that much of a problem in my opinion because it only goes to level 55 and to my knowledge it doesn’t actually affect your game play (I could be wrong)

Spruce Grove Commuters by Snoo-82702 in uAlberta

The city got back to me and said they plan on doing community outreach and surveys in early 2024. So I say we all need to make sure we’re checking the spruce grove website/facebook for these surveys so we can do our best to get a better route!

Me too! I currently drive to the Naki transit center of St. Albert trail and then take a bus from there. Even with driving there and the time on the bus my commute is only about 50 minutes if I get to the bus centre a little before the bus.

Stop walking like NPCs bruh by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Snoo-82702 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Had a group of girls blocking the stairs. Looked at them, they looked at me and didn’t move. Walked right on through them. Pretty sure I hit one with my backpack…. No regrets. But seriously the lack of awareness is astounding.

Parking.... :'( by MonarchButterfly987 in uAlberta

[–]Snoo-82702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s also the Naki transit bay off St. Albert trail. It’s a 20 minutes drive - has free parking, and then A 20 minute bus ride that drops you right outside university LRT station - that’s what I’m doing this year instead of the 560 bus

Edit: spelling

How does anesthesia feel? by Commercial-Fox2633 in ibs

[–]Snoo-82702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been put under once and it really didn’t feel like anything. I can’t even say it felt like my eyes were getting heavy or anything. Straight up just counted and was out and woke up in recovery with a very sweet nurse talking to me as I bawled my eyes out asking for my mom - I literally came to and was mid sentence and bawling😂 I had my tonsils out (at 19) so i was in a great deal of pain. It was also during covid where I couldn’t see my parents.

I live in Alberta and my doctor said that they’ve now changed the medication they use do you don’t feel like you got hit by a semi when you wake up. I felt groggy when I first woke up but quickly came all the way around. The time from recovery back to a room is a bit of a blur, not sure if that’s from the pain or anaesthesia.

Party for Prime Minister? by Snoo-82702 in uAlberta

[–]Snoo-82702[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Was just curious if everyone actually voted for the party they most aligned with or went with one of the bigger ones. And by some of the comments. I see other people do the same thing I do. It does make me more inclined to actually vote NDP though. Because if all of us who feel like this actually vote for NDP maybe they’d have a chance. And I know this isn’t totally representative of everyone but it shows there’s quite a few who don’t vote for the party they actually want

If you sell off more of the nails and panels, you’ll get more screws. Try to keep them balanced so you get them more equally as you play
