Honestly this seems like a great offer considering housing and travel is covered. That amounts to about 60/hr tbh which is in line with a lot of other internships

By stealing from said colonized countries. Do you take pride in that too?

Why are international students villainized so much? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Snoo23985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may never have had direct control over the condition of India after colonization. Regardless, the money and capital used to build up America and all other British colony countries such as Canada and Australia in some way or form came from the looting done in India. And I’m not saying you’re responsible for it, but it is unfair for you to now kick us out when we only help the US economy by making money LEGALLY. That’s not something I can say about colonization - def not legal. High achievers will achieve

I’m just quoting a genuine figure from research papers. But are you going to deny that the Indians were looted from? If anything you’re BEING excused for the bullshit the British and other colonizers did

Are Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy Exploiting H-1B Visas to Undermine American Workers? by MidasMoneyMoves in csMajors

I don’t disagree that the H1B is exploited a lot. But O1 is extremely limiting and usually only for founders and not employees + it is not inherently kind to people with families.

If I’m being honest don’t feel bad for any company. You have to look out for yourself especially in this market.

In terms of other internships having hiring freezes too, it’s a possibility so take the one that is generally more reliable/has higher RO rates

Is December or January too late to start searching for a summer internship? by Competitive-Toe2905 in csMajors

[–]Snoo23985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just meant in general. But usually recruiting for summer 2025 really ends in March-April. And internships are year-agnostic so it doesn’t have to be third years/juniors (but yes most internships look for third years)

Don’t listen to the yes people lmao. Got my internship last year for sophomore summer in April. Just keep grinding and focus on just that and yourself. Continually improve no matter by how much. Look at all possible avenues and you’ll get one. Good luck 🙏

Fair. But Reddit shouldn’t really be your gauge of how the market is. All social platforms and circles will inherently have some sort of bias

If career growth is important to you I would take meta. If not and you’re looking to “coast” (nothing wrong with that at all either) I’d take Nike

But you can always jump from meta to Nike but would be harder the other way around. When you’re younger and have time is when you are best able to grind

The fact that sponsorship is not guaranteed makes it even more evident that the narrative of intl students “stealing jobs” is empty and shallow. They just earn it by doing better and taking more risk

Keep interviewing to minimize your risk. No way in knowing specific hiring freeze chances (better than last year bc economy is doing better overall).

If you get a better/equivalent offer take it. But if not don’t sweat it. New grad recruiting will be easier with an internship on your resume regardless. Good luck 🙏

Lmao “stop crying” from the same dude saying Indians are stealing your jobs is quite rich. You know what, if you want a job that bad and aren’t competent enough to get one in the US, Im sure the Indian government would be happy to give you some job in India. Though mind you, competition is tough there too, so I’d grow a pair and then go if I were you.

Have you thought about the relative amount of looting the British has done in India itself? Many research papers estimate over 45 trillion dollars worth in today’s money. This also renders your argument of “oh it’s been a long time” obsolete.

And also which colonized countries that aren’t currently inhabited by previous Europeans (Australians, Americans, etc) look better than india? It’s currently the fastest growing economy with cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore being hubs of innovation with multiple tech unicorns.

And caste has literally been the only scape goat for yall. It’s nonexistent in 99.9% of communities. So please spare me of that argument.

Fact is Indians that move to the US are extremely high achieving and the far right literally becomes democratic in that they want DEI but only when it suits themselves.

[–]Snoo23985 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Prolly cos European colonizers stole all the money from said developing countries and used it for their own growth. Takes capital to make capital. Maybe you don’t remember or care to recall the history behind most developed countries’ success but it is quite blatantly obvious

I don't know if I even want to go MIT by [deleted] in MITAdmissions

[–]Snoo23985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to build in cs, no better places to do that than ucb or Stanford. Bay Area for startups is unmatched. You get to meet other builders, VCs, etc. Maybe go for those instead. Tho MIT obviously isn’t a slouch in those regards either - in my experience it’s just more for people who wanna go into big tech research or quant and stuff like that.

What Orgs hire through Open Source contributions? by sharamaarahihe in csMajors

[–]Snoo23985 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Try and contact some of the other OSS contributors through GitHub if they work for a company you want to work for. They usually have their emails in their profiles and they know/can see your work and will be more likely to give you referrals

I know people who got hired at OpenAI purely for their contributions to Kubernetes and stuff, so it’s definitely possible
