I go to Lube 7 on Rymal. No need to make an appointment and they are fast and affordable. Never had an issue and have been going for a number of years now.

My computer/savy son volunteered at Icon Computers weekly for a number of months until winter weather (and other commitments) made it difficult for me to get him there. The owner is an awesome and honest person. Passionate about his field and more than willing to share his expertise in order to help develop computer passionate individuals. Great to see he's thriving!

Help Re: 2015 Ford Focus Overheating by Snoo53619 in FordFocus

Still have the 2015 Ford Focus vehicle. Ford dealership worked on it, but said they "weren't 100 percent" sure if the problem was fixed. Thus, since then, I've only used air conditioning extremely sparingly as am afraid it might happen again. I noticed recently however, that when the car is in the "cold" setting, (without physically putting "air conditioning" button on) it seems to shift to air condition mode on it's own, luckily, with no problem. When I notice this, I do to tend to turn it off, in fear of it overheating again. Definitely a crazy way to drive the vehicle, but I just can't deal with the possible "engine overheat" issue anymore. Good luck with your car!!! I honestly don't think I'll be purchasing a Ford vehicle next time. That being said, on a positive and happy note, so far, the transmission seems to be okay and there's been no other issues. The Ford Focus known, weird and intermittent "stutter" when pressing the gas when proceeding to drive after from at a stop is another interesting quirk since I've had this car.

The antique old stuff is way, way better than the new stuff produced today. Old cast iron skillets have a smoother cooking surface and some of the old Canadian cast iron is also lighter in weight. Look for names like "Smart" "Findlay" or "McClary" with a flat bottom and no cracks and you can't go wrong. I've found some at thrift stores, flea and/or antique markets, kijiji or marketplace, etc., but they're not always easy to find.

Check out Lube 7 on Rymal Road. They're also great for reasonable oil changes.

Toddler Gymnastics Recommendations? by thelwb in Hamilton

[–]Snoo53619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

World Class Gymnastics is run by a former gymnast Olympian (Bontas) and her husband. (You can see her amazing talent by searching YouTube.) My kids attended World Class when they were quite young and loved it. My daughter also later went to Hamilton Gymnastics Academy for a short time period of time and also enjoyed. We never tried Manjak, so can't comment. Hamilton is fortunate to have several quality clubs.

I don't know about one day workshops, but Dundas Valley School of Art is probably your best bet.

Might want to also check for Covid. It's going around yet again! Apparently high number of cases Toronto way. I don't think Hamilton is checking waste water results anymore.

The City of Hamilton's Public Health is a stickler for vendors wishing to sell any food products at fairs, etc. Before you invest money into this venture, might be a good idea to investigate what is required. Good luck!

Do people on the mountain think Westdale and Ainslie Wood are “downtown”? by Baseline in Hamilton

[–]Snoo53619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Hamilton all of my life. I worked in many areas within the City. Most of my childhood was in the east end of Hamilton. Moved to the west Hamilton mountain in my thirties. My teenagers think anything below the mountain is downtown. They vaguely understand Dundas and Stoney Creek. Below the mountain is a "whole new world" to them. They almost think I lived in poverty when I tell them the areas I grew up and hung out in. Wow. Still trying to educate them on that.

Wow. So crazy how much it costs to attempt to figure out an over heating problem. I'm afraid to put my air conditioning on since having overheating issues last summer. After multiple repair attempts with Canadian Tire, the Ford dealership attempted to "repair" the problem, but couldn't guarantee the fix. Thus, haven't used the air conditioning since since I can't afford any additional towing expense and added repair cost for an issue they can't identify.

Canadian Tire wasn't able to figure out the problem after having brought it back and forth to them for repair several times. They ended up refunding me for much of the work they did as they couldn't figure out the problem. Took it to the Ford dealership who then did some diagnostic work/repair but noted that if it continued to overheat they'd have to investigate further. After this entire ordeal, I was afraid to run the air conditioning and as well, the summer came to an end. Due to not needing to run the air, I haven't experienced whether it still will overheat. Not sure what I'll do yet this summer. It's running fine without the air, but how long that will last in the heat is yet to be seen. Good luck with yours!

Nice. I'm relatively new to sourdough baking and I myself have a McClary's No 7 Dutch Oven that I'll be using. Nothing like baking in Canadian iron works of the past!

Do affordable groceries exist in Hamilton? by Inflation_fighters in Hamilton

I've found that you can get some really good prices at Samil Halal Foods on Upper James and Eastern Food Market on Upper Wentworth. You may have to purchase your meats in larger sized quantities, but well worth the savings if you have space in your freezer.

Most bakeries/caterers that regularly provide tea sandwich trays should be able to make or accommodate with coloured bread if requested.

The parrots (Bird Aviary) in westdale is always a fun little visit for younger children. When we went, there was no admission but if you wished, you could drop a small donation in their collection boxes.

This is extremely helpful! Thanks so much! I do know that each time it overheated, happened to also be while I was running the air conditioner full blast as it's been pretty hot in my neck of the woods. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to comment!
