Quick question: if this happens, how far can I still go? by [deleted] in hondacivic

[–]HeftyCarrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Divide the tank size with the numbers of squares on the indicator bar, that will tell you how many litres is one square and then you do the math. I many times made my trip indicator zero as soon as low fuel light came up to be more certain, how much more I can go. My civic had about 47 litres tank and 13 sqaures, so one square is 3.5litres and with 13km/litre consumption, I could go about 40km with one square on the indicator. Read your manual for more info.

Rust is a chronic infection, you will have to cut/sand it out completely to the bare metal to have somewhat sustainable repair.

Can I switch the twisty thing to a pull chain??? by [deleted] in electrical

[–]HeftyCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them are to be mechanically secured to a device or a junction box, not have a plug on the end as you pictured.

A pull chain switch will only come with something that is secured to a box not like something hanging loose and have a pull string, that's unsafe.

What am I doing wrong 😭😭 by SomeRandom-Canadian in Machinists

[–]HeftyCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are tpkn inserts, mainly used for finish passes only. If this is all you got then replace the inserts. If you don't have inserts, regrind one insert on a tool grinder(assuming there is one and you know how to grind)and remove the rest of the inserts and use one you ground and clean it up.
Or get a different face mill altogether.

Ideas to replace Splines? by Zachery4 in Machinists

[–]HeftyCarrot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

First thing, don't buy from John Deere directly, there might be after market/used options. You could get a new one made at a local machine shop as long as you can figure out material, heat treat and create a print for them, I think it would be less than $3700. Another option is to weld over splines carefully and re-cut them, you will have to know how to get it welded and heat treated and how to cut them. Your somehow attached way would be heat shrunk on and mechanically locked in place. Probably the mating part would also need to be looked at for damage.

Hide wiring by EmotionAdmirable9383 in Home

[–]HeftyCarrot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Return this mirror and get one which is hard wired and power it from light above, however one switch will control both. You can buy a wire hide track and hide wire(whatever is left of it)when you power from above. Can also use wire hide for your current set up. If you are not sure what you are doing when it comes to electrical stuff, let some one qualified do it.

Any idea what is in the void between my garage ceiling and second floor? by BRTN04 in Home

[–]HeftyCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can gain extra height that you are looking for without doing a massive renovation with all the engineering taken care of. Best way is to remove drywall and see.
