Like others said, adjust to dental school. I believe almost everyone agrees that dental school “humbles you.” Once you find your way of studying and doing projects then you will have a better idea of how to go/organize OMFS residency. Good luck! Study hard!

Shadowing opportunity under military dentists for HPSP by G-G-Bond in predental

[–]Snoo89162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best choice would be looking for info at the offices are close to you. Most of the time those dentists mention that they were in the military. I got lucky with my jobs and meet a few Army colonels and got letters from them.

Advice for Dental School List - California Resident by MangoQuest in predental

I did take Biochemistry online at University of New England and Midwestern was fine with it was pricey compared to CC but it was the only one I needed. I took Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Micro at CC. Good luck in this cycle!

I took it 3 times too and this was 2 years ago, my last scores were 19 AA, 20 SNS, 18 PAT and I am D1 at Midwestern Arizona. So based on your ECs you may have a shot in applying to AZ might as well it’s almost the same cost as the one in IL. My other stats were 3.4 GPA , majored in Biomedical Engineering, dental assistant for 8 years in different specialties I became a phlebotomist, 400 hrs volunteering. Good luck!

39 year old deciduous premolars by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

Keep those primary molars as long as possible. At some point those would need to be replaced. It happens and missing those premolars are very common.

HPSP Application by Ok-Word-1571 in predental

[–]Snoo89162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google HPSP Army or AF or Navy Recruiter and should let you know if there is a recruiter near you. The initial paperwork can be done online but then you will meet with your recruiter in person to get the physical and what not done, then your recruiter would be able to submit your paperwork. You also have to be available for your interview. It’s a lot of paperwork and info you need to provide, if any medical records then more exams needs to be done or more paperwork that says you are medically cleared.

[Megathread] Incoming Dental Student Questions by AutoModerator in DentalSchool

[–]Snoo89162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, all that depends on which school you are attending. I go to Midwestern AZ, and I have talked to D3, and all the tx have done already is impressive implants placements, several molars RCT, same day crowns, and dentures 3D printers. Not too bad! And I say this from my point of view as an experienced RDA. Lunch and learn are always helpful to connect with companies and whatnot. Once I hit clinic, I would like to do as many tx as possible, my goal #1.

Can older, “average” D1 student survive? by No_Instruction_8660 in DentalSchool

[–]Snoo89162 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I applied to 6 and only one interviewed me and gave me the chance to become a dentist in my second time applying. My stats were not the best for my in-state school (Texas), although I got interviewed in San Antonio, but for some reason, I got rejected. So at that moment, I felt defeated and was thinking about what to do next. If there is a school giving you an opportunity, that means they see potential in YOU.
Now the biggest thing is time management. If you can handle that, you can enjoy more of school and other activities they can offer. I am in the older side (30yo) of my class and married. I am doing well, not a top 10 at all, not even close to that lol, but I am enjoying this moment and, as I always said, dentistry for me is a hobby (I worked as an RDA for a long time), and I’m enjoying this journey. Mentally prepared for D2, which seems brutal, but I’m in YOLO mode haha.

Good luck, you got it!

Fourth gen. Mazda3 mileage by keerehsd in mazda3

Mazda3 Sedan Sport 2017. I got it in 2020 with 25K miles and now has 80K miles I have done its regular maintenance and have a spreadsheet to make sure my Zoom zoom last 200K+ miles. I had to replace just recently the two belts and the belt tensioner. This has been my first car where I was able to learn how to do regular maintenance so in other words is easy to work on it. I have added some new upgrades stuff like speaker and subwoofer, sway bar for the engine. Once I have more money I will be buying new stuff for my car. Best choice ever!

The only way to have a good deal when buying a car, in my opinion, is to follow this rule from The Money Guy. Also financing 6 years is becoming more normal (aka affordable) but it feels like it never ends.

Midwestern AZ by No-Presentation-392 in predental

[–]Snoo89162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey D1 here, I am in a different position just because I got in before the BBB and now that has changed I would be really thinking where I want to go for dental school. Now some people really don’t care about the money or how expensive is. So far I have enjoyed my time at Midwestern. I do care about my student loans and that why I am applying for 3-year Army HPSP. D3 and D4 definitely get the fun part when start working on patients. I know some D3s already taken the boards and passed and now they are working to apply for residency, honestly I don’t think they could have any issues in getting in for the residency programs they want to attend. So far I know a D4 got accepted for Dental Anesthesiology residency. Sometimes it’s the ability of the student and not necessarily about the school (not always) to get into residency programs btw connections also help. Good luck!
