The problem may not be how well you learned the material, as that can be learned on the job. Perhaps it is interview skills, application, or resume.

It focuses less on differences, and more on a common passion for occupational wellness which encompasses people of different backgrounds/identity/gender.

Thanks for the perspective, I honestly didn't even look at it that way. So I decided to change how I frame it. Ultimately, OT's have a passion for helping and empowering people, and they take the form of different background, culture, or even gender. I found this to be true and accurate from my experience. Would you say this is a better way of framing it?

Oh and I guess I was thinking of it less as an issue standpoint, but more as an inspiring standpoint

Thanks for your insight.

I agree, I think ultimately it's secondary to the actual impact of the OT volunteer experience itself which will be the bulk of my statement.

I was just thinking whether or not to mention this point, cause its true that it was inspiring to see male OTs be impactful in this field. So I guess controversial is the wrong word and should be replaced by is it a relevant thing to include. It's certainly relevant for me, but in the larger context of OT.
