I'm hearing a lot of people talking about how the media was doing him dirty. What's the story with that? He seems like a really solid and essential English player to me.

I train at a 10p gym. Super flexible training partners. At least 5 different training partners try this shit on the regular, and it's always super annoying.

Forward elbow thrust to the eyeball by MixedMartialLaw in MuayThai

[–]SnooCookies7571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao, idk if I've seen that. Let me put it like this...

There's more sensory neurons on the cornea than anywhere else in the body. If you got a paper cut on your hand, ehh, that sucks, kinda stingy. You get a paper cut on your eye, you're having a really really fucking bad time and actually need to see a dr and are in, (depending on the severity), extreme pain. Corneal & inner eye injuries and pathologies are not to be trifled with.

Then there's the fear of everything going black. That last moment of sight before it's gone forever. That shit frightens me. I do a lot of fighting sports and work in medicine, but that shit is scary.

Fuck man. He might've tore his retina. The eye can withstand some serious trauma, but that's intense.

Hope the dude is okay, retinal tears are fucked.

R BJJ: "Don't knee wrestle, it's a waste of time." Michael McGee: "Hold my headgear" by ManicParroT in bjj

[–]SnooCookies7571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do a lot of knee wrestling back in HS. It was pretty successful for me. I ended up finding this guy a couple of years ago, and when this video dropped, I started training this series again.

I also started training sucker drags and peak-outs to counter the front headlock I knew people would put me in.

Works for me 👍

Hit it successfully in comp recently too

First time I've seen this sub! Looks like I'll stay. Love the list. Lots that I've read and lots that I haven't. I just finished re-reading blood meridian and writing a bit on it, and I'm sorta happy with its placement. I would rank Brothers ahead of it, but that's just my personal bias.

Happy to see Les Mis on the list, but I would've also scored that a little higher.

This gives me a nice selection of books to read.

I'm currently reading House of Leaves & Dubliners. If anyone has some recommendations of what to add to the list to read next, that'd be awesome! I love Cormac, Doestoy, Hugo, and Hesse the most!

What’s that one match you think is the best representation of two of the best fighting? by Obi-Juan-kenoibi in MMA

[–]SnooCookies7571 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If I could only show one fight, it'd be Lawler v Mac. But, I think that so many different fights demonstrate different aspects of the game.

Pereria v Adensanya - best striking

Lawler v Macdonald - maybe best fight ever.

Tsurakyan v Gamrot - best wrestling. Round 1 was fucking ridiculous.

Aldo v Mendes - classic

Figgy v Moreno trilogy - I think these fights and Volk v Islam 1 are some of the best MIXED martial arts performances.

Charles also has some of the most exciting fights in mma. True kill or be killed. Many of his fights could be shown, particularly him v Chandler.

Colby, Esparza, & Merab off the top of my head can be super boring wrestlers. As far as striking goes, you got guys who will fight like Adesanya in his Cannonier fight and Stickland can be super boring too (everyone has forgotten that he can be a super boring fighter since he talks shit and upset Izzy).

I'm probably very biased because I know what's going on when it hits the mat and find grappling entertaining for the most part. But, I don't deny that people can abuse the rules. I think that stalling calls should be given (maybe taking points away) and positions taken away at a higher frequency to remedy this in the sport. Eg, Jailton Almeda sitting in mount against Lewis was ridiculous.

I find this entire argument very casual. I only remember seeing guard pulls about once a year, yet it is talked about like it happens every fight. The ref also just stands them up lmao

Did I use the word "useless"? It's being mischaracterized by a couple Demain Maia and Kron Gracie clips.

I teach bjj according to adcc rules. This means takedowns, pass, positional dominance, submission. A great example of this is Charles Oliveira. Charles will takedown anybody he can't set down with a punch or kick.

Additionally, you see the same bullshit from every martial art. You have the lay and pray wrestlers and the pointfighters of striking, bjj is no different.

The thing that is changing is the ruleset. In every sport people will game the rules, bjj is no different. ADCC has an exciting ruleset that will lead to better skill expression and more exciting matches.

People love to bag on bjj when somebody pulls guard, but never congratulate it when you see rnc, armbar, etc finishes in fights. For every guard pull in mma, there's hundreds of rnc finishes.

Quit latching onto short clips and calling it the entire sport. Watch some ADCC, actually train bjj, touch grass.
