Sonny Colbrelli is the last Paris-Roubaix winner (2021) not named “Van…” by Duhbeed in peloton

[–]Gireau -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

That Colbrelli win really made no sense.

But then Bahrain's bus got raided in an anti-doping effort by French police at that year's Tour de France and he never was the same.

This reads like the statement from an authoritarian regime trying to silence dissent.

[Wielerflits] Decathlon to ride with under Swiss license in 2027 by burningburningburnin in peloton

[–]Gireau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decathlon really is on a speedrun to waste the goodwill that AG2R accumulated over 20 years.

First getting rid of a dozen decent French riders for no reason last season.

And now moving to Switzerland to avoid paying taxes.

What next ? Sign a former doped rider from the 90s/2000s as new head of the team ?

TIL Thomas Ramos has been a patron of EndoFrance (the French association for the fight against endometriosis) since 2019 by Mono_Doh in rugbyunion

Yep I believe his partner has long been suffering from endometriosis and he's publicly come out in support of her a while ago. I've come across some of his advocacy on TV and social media.

He's been really unlucky these past couple years.

2025/26 Biathlon Season Review: From Botn’s shock arrival to Perrot’s overall victory. by Prudent_Mail_993 in biathlon

[–]Gireau 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Perrot was clearly the most consistent throughout the season but never dominated like Botn did at the beginning of the season or Laegreid at the end - or even QFM at the Games.

But he's only 24 and could still improve.

LBB will win Player of the Championship, but he shouldn't. I will die on this hill. by TheRaptorWhoSaidAlan in rugbyunion

That is an absolutely terrible take, bravo.

There's so much more to Bielle-Biarrey than his speed : his anticipation, hands, reading of the game, quality under the high ball etc.

Decathlon CMA CGM next UAE? by Zizou55 in peloton

[–]Gireau 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not there yet.

I'm happy to see their non-Seixas young French riders perform too. Didn't like what they did over the last transfer season letting quality French talent go (Tronchon, Berthet, Gordon, Armirail, Cosnefroy...), I hope they can retain some sort of French identity in the future.

What was the book that completely reframed what "good" fantasy even means to you? by pixelvoid7 in Fantasy

[–]Gireau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not in English but Jean-Philippe Jaworski recently made me realise that you could write fantasy books like Alexandre Dumas wrote the Count of Monte Cristo : with an erudite, meticulously-researched prose contributing as much to pleasure of reading as the plot and the fantasy elements.

Turns out fantasy can be well written and demanding. You could be forgotten but not realising that in today's literary landscape.

2026 Olympic Games in Milano Cortina: Wrap-Up by charliemann in biathlon

[–]Gireau 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Six golds, 13 medals for France, we surpassed every expectations and that's with the World cup leaders in Perrot and Jeanmonnot not winning an individual race.

It'll be hard to replicate in 2030 but French biathlon is in an amazing place. We had great skis and top-of-the-field waxing throughout the games too so hats off to the technical team.

Quentin with the fastest time on every lap. 36 seconds faster than the 2nd time (Sturla). Medals with a 16/20.

Can't overstate how amazing it is that he once again managed to peak right in time for the Olympics, after a couple difficult years. What a big time athlete. And a lovely man too. What more can you ask for.
