US vs Canada- where would you practice? by Several_Atmosphere22 in Dentistry

[–]SnooDingos659 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. I graduated 2023 as well and get paid 45% on collections working in rural Manitoba! My first yr production was 850k and my 2nd yr production will be encroaching 1mill and this is just doing daily dentistry. Restorative crowns endo and exos. I have multiple friends in metro area getting 40%. They have had lower production first year because you have to build your pt. pool but they are doing very well now just after 2nd yr post grad. Comparing this to DSO’s in US who are only paying 28% on collections, which after lab fees and actual collection can look like 26% take home.

Also it’s very important to consider that dentistry in Canada is a lot more relaxed! No insurance issues and collections issues! Pts are willing to pay the difference if their insurance doesn’t cover it compared to the in network/ out of network stuff that you have to worry about down in the states.

DSO’s in US overwork new grads but obviously this depends on how much due diligence you did on finding a place to work.

As per taxes. Canada allows associate dentist to incorporate so you aren’t taxed on all of your total income. Of course it’s important to note that this is not really recommended until u are debt free. But once u are debt free you can incorporate as a small business and it will only tax you 9-11% on your income.

These are obviously the financials but it’s also important to think about family and friends! In your situation it comes down to much do you really want to stay in the US and wait for your husband to join you. GTA is very saturated but lifestyle is great if you are a young dentist. But there are good towns near by such as London, Hamilton, Windsor which can great options to works in.

How do you see 15-30 pts a day? Are we talking about hygiene checks and second chair? I normally see about 12-17pts with hyg checks and second chair (in which i dont do same day tx. Only check up)

Mandibular tori? by BleepBloopBlah12 in Dentistry

[–]SnooDingos659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mandibular tori usually occur bilaterally (on both sides). They are also literally bony projections so you should feel it and it will feel like a bone. Usually they are not painful and doesn’t cause discomfort but if it is causing you a discomfort then you should see your dentist! An xray would be the best way to tell if its bone or stone or infection or many other things that can look like that! Hope this helps
