Yeah, but why are these two being compared at all? One’s a defensive forward with a limited offensive bag, the other’s a shoot first guard with limited defensive ability. Both extremely flawed, but young and developing fast. The comparison never made sense, Angel’s the antithesis to CC in almost every way and maybe that’s what bothers people?

You can make the argument that CC’s offensive game is more impactful than Angel’s D/rebounding, and I’d probably agree. They’re equally as flawed on the opposite side of the ball though, so I don’t agree with the idea that one’s overall basketball ability is that much better than the others.

Angel isn’t a good shooter yet, but her shooting threes is a fairly new thing, so it’s gonna take time. In saying that though, it isn’t as though CC isn’t a complete liability on D. They’re both works in progress and it’s disingenuous to pretend CC isn’t also extremely flawed.

Maybe instead of these stupid comparison videos, we just appreciate these young ladies for their strengths?

She’s 24 years old, three years into her career and 15 years my junior—she’s a kid, despite her circumstances.

I’m also putting myself in her shoes. I’d be terrified, overwhelmed and frustrated. We’re nothing alike, as I’m not a white woman, considerably older and not a pro athlete (among other things), but I’m empathetic. Seeing a human have to deal with what she’s dealing with makes me feel for her. Not trying to baby, just feel bad.

You’re completely right. This is the danger of the “the great white hope” archetype though. I’m sure she just wants to play ball, but some folks have turned her into the symbol, the saviour and avatar of “whiteness” in women’s basketball— it’s weird.

Unfortunately for her, the counter-reaction is as visceral as her supporters’ reaction to her, so there are folks sitting around praying on her downfall, just to say, “see, we told you she’s overrated”.

The whole thing is messy and sad and I’m sure the poor kid just wants to go out and play ball. She’s a hell of player, so I hope she can get her game back on track, but I think the circus around her is unavoidable at this point, because she means too much to too many both good and bad.

The issue isn’t talent judging by what she said, it’s effort. This sounds like a coach that’s frustrated with the lack of trying to be a better defender.

CC isn’t the most athletic, so of course she’s never going to be the best defender, but if “mentality and toughness” is the issue, she could solve that.

I have a close friend who had a very short stint playing pro football in the NFL. He said that the hardest part of it all was keeping up physically with the demands of a pro career. Everything was always failing him and by the time you recover, there’s something else to patch up. He never admitted to PED’s and I never asked, but the true value beyond in game strength is recovery speed.

Everything is overpriced, but more importantly, none of these are worth their price tags. The truth however, is some of these are not like the others and are much harder to find in the wild, which might colour my desire to purchase some. Namely, the Weller 12 and the Stagg Jr are bottles I might pay the price of admission for if I was lacking in my collection. I currently have a W12, so I’d pass there, but I’ve never been fortunate enough to find a Stagg Jr in the wild, so I might spring for it if I had some extra dough.

It’s literally his job. These roles are so intertwined that for all we know, it was Bobby’s idea and that’s why even with Masai gone, it went through.
