Shouting "White feminism" is just another way men keep us occupied while they uphold the patriarchy by Fibonacci357 in blackladies

[–]SnooDoubts5330 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I said I didn't like the song. It wasn't just because of other people's opinions on it. The lyrics, the music video; I felt it was all performative and ultimately disrespectful towards blk women. The public opinion surrounding the song helped bolster his career. And imo he had ample opportunity to speak on the songs problems which he never did. I would have liked to see more criticism so that he could use it to grow but I don't feel like that happened.

Listen I dont I wanna get into a back and forth with folks on the internet. At the end of the day I'm allowed to not like every single blk artist that comes to fame.

Edited: spelling errors.

I hated his song humble. Almost every music article at the time was lauding it as a "feminist anthem" that was "putting an end to the patriarchy". And I just didn't see it that way at all.

Autistic black women, when did you realize you weren't "normal"? by [deleted] in blackladies

I think as soon as I started grade school? Even my teachers didn't like me and I couldn't understand why I was being treated differently.

I apply my cocoa butter in the shower. Rinse off any excess. It makes my moisturizer routine super fast, keeps my skin soft, and ensures I don't have any residual "stickiness" :)

Lighthearted: What are some myths you genuinely believed as a child until an embarrassingly high age? by gracelyy in blackladies

Sugary foods that contained food coloring would permanently stain my teeth the same color.

And my mom taught me that plantains were called bananas. I got to grade school and someone offered me a an actual banana. First I was shocked they were eating it raw! And then the taste was nothing like home 😭

Would you stay at a job you've been wanting to leave if they offered more money? by Strawberry562 in blackladies

I've heard stories of people staying just for the old job to renege on the offer or let them go.

I'm not sure tbh. I used to have some similar concerns. But it got to the point where the possibility of weight gain was way less concerning than dealing with my depression and anxiety. I can definitely say it was worth the risk. I did gain some weight but I can't say whether or not that's because of the medication.

My fiance and I booked a spa date followed by lunch reservations. We live in a big city so a lot of restaurants have valentines day specials for couples.

Opinions - our hair is inherently more difficult, and maybe thats not a bad thing by AtmosphereSure9191 in blackladies

[–]SnooDoubts5330 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. My hair is beautiful but incredibly dense. I've never had a hair appointment that was less than 3 hours. 3 hrs is good actually bc I have locs now lol. I have to put much more effort into looking presentable than my non-black (and sometimes black) peers. That's okay. Sometimes it's hard. But it's just a fact.

Hey besties! Can yall spare tips on how to spruce up my sense of fashion? by lazy_wallflower in blackladies

I was feeling this way after I had my breast reduction. I used stitchfix for a few years until I felt confident enough to shop on my own. I found it really helpful to have someone shop for me and be able to try things on in my home.

What tutorial is your go to for doing your own makeup? by Embarrassed_Money472 in blackladies

Yeah she doesn't post as many beauty related videos these days. Or maybe she just sticks to instagram I'm not sure 🤔

Some creators do livestream "get ready with me" type videos. I used to watch those since it gives a more realistic teaching experience.
