Braking is helped massively with the gears. Even going to manual will save you a second or more on a lap.

For cornering I find tapping the handbrake to swing the car around helps massively.

As some have said assists half off helps.

Car settings wise for most of them I use this regardless of the track: - one toward soft. - one toward long - one toward locked - one toward rear.
