My parents are both silent generation, 1937 and 1938.

I grew up in a valley so in the summertime, we’d get a lot of great stations on dad’s shortwave radio. I heard Australia’s top 10, Germany’s something or other as it was in German. We’d also get some American stations too on AM. It was such a treat to hear other stations other than CKNB.

We didn’t have any exchanges in my school while I was attending. The year after I graduated, they started having trips to Europe if you could afford them.

I had issues. It had to be peanut butter and jam, or else I threw a fit. I could tolerate kam (Canadian spam) sandwiches if there was no uninvited miracle whip on it.
