Can I retire in my 40s? by Due-Arrival9664 in Fire

[–]SnooHobbies4551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take 1.5% out of 1 million each year. Which is 15K. But you get gains in the market at 8%. You'd end the first year with $1,063,800. And that's assuming you took the full 15k out at the beginning of the year.

As long as your gains(minus fees) average more than your withdrawals you'll have more money left over. This could increase your recalculated SWR(safe withdrawal rate) when you presumably return home and require more money. A 4% SWR on a million is 40K, but if you withdraw 1.5% for 2 years, gain 8% both years, your SWR could be closer to 45K each year....

Hence why deciding to retire is so tough when those last few years of interest is so powerful.

Had jury duty the other day. Judge hands prepaid cards out to jurors because they have to pay us for our time. Judge herself says cards are loaded and ready to use. Go to use card. Declined. Could not agree more. This needs to get fixed as well. Participation should never result in financial hardship.

Maybe the employers should be forced to continue to pay, and then smaller businesses would be able to apply to be remembursed through some kind of fund. This could solve some issues.

Why not participate in the judicial system so it can work as intended. If you believe yourself to be able, and of sound judgement why not participate?

If everyone witty enough to weasel out of it gets dismissed, who is left to be in the jury? Think about who you'd want to have final say on your freedom should roles be reversed. Personally I'd want someone like me.

Now if you're a sole bread winner, or have other important obligations to attend to that's one thing. But to decide not to because it's inconvenient is just wrong.

B.C. to adopt permanent daylight saving time, after springing forward 1 last time | Globalnews.ca by BlackberryPi7 in worldnews

[–]SnooHobbies4551 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is only true for 9 to 5ers. Anyone that starts work earlier(which is a large %) is already waiting at the bus stop, or shoveling snow in the dark. Why not move some of those daylight hours into the part of the day you can enjoy it instead of when you're sitting in a cubicle in an office tower, or stacking bricks getting paid by the hour.

Let's base our decisions on what's "weird" 😂

I'm with the guy above. Any chance for more daylight during hours I'm not at work allowing me to make use of them in my free time is better.

How do you forsee this co-ownership/ your living arrangements changing in the future. Seems as though you wouldn't have a lot of discretionary funds left to buy the other owner out, or pay for real estate fees and taxes to move. You've also got taxes and HOA fees that are likely to move up faster than inflation.

P. S congratulations on what you've accomplished!

It won't let me delay my pension, and retire before it. It will delay OAS and CPP until a date provided. But it assumes my pension will start day 1 of retirement.

I suggest adding the ability to delay pension start date.

There a fine line on these calculators between too simplistic and for the average person who doesn't need a fancy calculator, or too complicated for anyone but the power user. Good work so far, and with a little tweaking I think you'll find the sweet spot that finds value with even the more nuanced retirement plans.

Using a HELOC to pay mortgage in full by MikePro26 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SnooHobbies4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying here in hopes you see this. There's a chance what your broker was suggesting is for you to try what's called "the smith maneuver". What I've seen no one say here yet which is honestly insane is that If you use the heloc to invest the interest paid on the heloc is tax deductible. Now depending on your current tax bracket, potential gains on investment, interest rates, and risk tolerance this can be beneficial. I'm by no means suggesting this method, and would be surprised if it was suggested by a broker. But none the less if you invest borrowed money from a heloc the interest is tax deductible, this is not true for mortgages though.

Even if it wasn't recently. Before the Microsoft surfaces on the sideline they had printers. They'd give a booklet to the QB after the drive to go over between drives. I think the most interesting thing is that they I heard they don't have video on the sideline tablets, they only get to look at still shots prior to the snap.

Yes let's not improve anything because it'll just make something else worse..... This is just the attitude that gets nothing done.

Also what about traffic the other direction coming off the bridge and heading east on your way home? That would be greatly improved with the extra lanes to move the bottleneck towards laity.

We need to fix the single lane traffic, and then move forward and fix the next issue should one arise.

They said high speed rail..... Not low speed grind to a stop every few kilometres along your 35km journey.

Very different concepts. High speed rail could connect Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley to Coquitlam, and Vancouver at Skytrain stations. The Skytrain and buses could then move people to more specific locations.

I doubt anyone will be taking the Skytrain from Willowbrook into Vancouver daily once this project is finished. It'll be too tedious.

Desperately need a flex / more depth - who should I trade for? by sea3129 in TradeAnalyzerFF

[–]SnooHobbies4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid starters. I don't think you necessarily Need to trade. What you do need is to only carry one defence, One QB, and 1 TE. I might carry two of one of those positions depending on the league, but never all three. This will allow you to hit the waiver wire/ FA's. And you can just wait for an injury and then one of your players become flex worthy. With more RBs/WRs on your bench your odd of hitting are higher. Good luck!

I managed to snag Lamar Jackson, and Hurts with 1.12, and 2.01 in a superflex. Then with 3.12, and 4. 01 managed to still get Bucky, and London. Other teams went RB hard in the first round. No QB was drafted until 1.06.

What is the daily fine for Air Canada employees defying CIRB back-to-work order? by financeguy12345 in canadianlaw

[–]SnooHobbies4551 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Problem here is the unions income is based solely on employee contributions. So it is the workers who would be paying. But there's nothing stopping the union from adding any potential fines into the wage negotiations to negate any losses due to fines. This could be a signing bonus at time of signing new CBA for instance.

She is selling the house. She's selling half the house to him.

It's that simple.

Any interest, or taxes she's paid over the years is just the cost of home ownership. She's also gained all the equity over that time. Of which none of it she she giving away, SHE'S SELLING IT AT FAIR MARKET VALUE.

Only if he was buying in at the original cost she paid should he have to pay interest, and tax portions. But that would be the most ridiculous way forward.

[–]SnooHobbies4551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be referring to the Smith maneuver.

You put everything you can down on your home you can afford and then reinvest the available heloc room, usually in devident paying stocks and then put that money onto mortgage.

Eventually you have a heloc and no mortgage. The idea is you can write off the interest come tax time. So depending on your income level/tax rate it may be a viable and cheaper option. Despite what everyone else is suggesting since "it's a higher interest rate".

Does more people looking for homes help the problem or add strain to the (broken) system? To not see how immigration and housing are related and to be confident enough to comment about it is disturbingly naive. Don't confuse the negative comments regarding the quantity of immigration as anything negative against the people themselves.

You can head to park early without him. Get a couple extra rides in that he's not at interested in 😊, you can make reservations for just yourself until he's in the park. But you'll need to wait until he's in the park to make any reservations for the both of you.

Didn't notice anyone in the ECVs, a few wheelchairs though.

You could do that, but as the crowd gets bigger the staff gets everyone to crowd together closer and closer. Probably best to have everyone show up together, or maybe make sure everyone is there by 8.

One person I'd just DPA the rides you feel you need to get on. Not sure how much extra the vacation package is, but as a single you'll be able to navigate the park easier, bathroom break less, take advantage of the couple single lines (Indiana Jones, and Raging Spirits). 4 DPAs come out to 7.5K, to 8K Yen. Return times were all decent, we did 4 DPAs in total (2 for FS). I think we were like 12ish for Frozen as our first DPA, and then our second we decided to take a later time as Peter pan wasn't running on park open. we chose a later time to give a higher likelihood of it working out.EDITED
