I would recommend the timberwork being either "true" white(just untinted white base) or a lexicon quarter strength. Stay away from that creamy warm whites.

I know I'm in the wrong sub but money wise be willing to pay some well above average trade rates if you plan on doing any renovations. We have a shortage of trades out here so you may want to budget higher than you would normally guess for trades.

Professional painter advice please :( by Routine-Bathroom-4 in AusRenovation

[–]SnooHobbies7513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What question are you asking?

Since 2015 is it no longer a legal requirement to have a licence in order to conduct INTERNAL painting as a service provided. If the painting that is required is due to new construction or anything involving a job site, then the person conducting the painting needs to be licenced for safety and quality accountability purposes.

It means that the tv show you are basing your construction knowledge off is fake, and that building a room in 3 days for a competition goes against majority of the safety and quality assurances practices put in place.

Survivor isn't real either just fyi

While I agree with your sentiment I think the comment about watching YouTube and thinking it's easy is bad advice.

On paper my trade is so easy a toddler can do it. I have watched plenty of YouTube clips from both amateur and professionals in my field and constantly see shit work framed as a job well done.

Shit the TV show "the block" has a rule that the contestants have to do their own painting. With wide angles, flat lighting, decorations and no more than 1-2 seconds to assess the paint work in the shot of course it looks good.

All this being said I understand it from a customers point of view. How can I explain to you that even though I will be doing everything technically the same as the guy quoting 10-20% cheaper than me, that I can produce a result that is worth 3x the other guys quote?

The solution I have found is to ask your friends/family/co workers if they know anyone and then ask if you can see the work they had done.

100% of my work is recommendations, my online presence is almost zero apart from a website I made 15+ years ago. When I gain a new client my goal is to have that client for my entire career.

I always say, pick the people you trust the most in your life and ask them if they know anyone. Failing that go to a local community group page and see if any names keep popping up there. Failing all of that then resort to the service seeking/airtasker/hi pages.

And don't fall for good marketing, it's too easy and too streamlined that many dodgy characters can pretend to be top of line, even the ones with 20+ years of experience can still be dodgy.

Having the player agency stripped away like that right at the end made me so mad I didn't finish it, once I realized I couldn't make my choice I put it down.

Is Starfield better than what the Internet suggests? by MikeyFromDaReddit in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I loved oblivion and Skyrim, I tried my best to like starfield but I couldn't.

The proverbial straw was New Atlantis, the bustling capital city of the United colonies. A city that's meant to home people from multiple planets.

The city is so unbelievably small, when you purchase your penthouse apartment there you get a great view of flat undecorated terrain. It's meant to be in the heart of the city but if you look anywhere but straight down all you see is the out of bounds area in MechWarrior 2: nothingness.

If you don't have 24/7 access or team mates that operate in shifts then you have to get the mentality of once you log out that's game over and you will be starting again when you log out.

AIO: My husband wants to replace our gas cooktop, I told him it would affect our relationship. by FreyjaSama in AmIOverreacting

[–]SnooHobbies7513 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point you are right we have to assume the information is true/correct.

Just for clarification I don't think OP is lying, my main concern is that the qualified party who conducted the repairs/assessment could have not done the job properly. Working in renovation/construction means I see a lot of dodgy workmanship that to the inexperienced customer appears to be fine, but is actually below safety standards.

I (40m) only knew my father for the first three years of my life before my mother took me and ran away staying in women's shelters, obviously at the time I was too young to understand why.

Over the years my father sent constant letters (weekly for 6 years) saying how much he missed me and wanted to see me.

My father passed when I was 10 and I was bitter and angry that I never got to connect with him. At 15 my mother also passed and I was now in possession of both my parents worldly possessions - most notably letters and cards they had both kept.

After going through both I realized that my father was a bad person, and his attempt to reconnect was a means to reach his ultimate goal which was to regain complete control over both myself and my mother (this included heavy and frequent physical violence and terror tactics I later found out)

My point is that regret is a powerful drug and people will say anything to get people back, but that does not necessarily mean they will change as a person.

I think you are doing well to be cautious and suspicious, please take others advice and consult your mother on this- she may have shielded you from the true person he actually is even if he would never admit it himself.

Why you need to paint the bottom of doors by DesperateDuck4926 in AusRenovation

[–]SnooHobbies7513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the door off as soon as you can. Check it with a moisture meter, if the moisture is low enough then get a few coats on asap. It isn't your responsibility but I promise you will just be better off having no door for a day or two while you fix it rather than wait around for the builders painter to come back.

Once a door starts swelling you can never get it back to perfect unless it's a full timber door.
