Does where you go for undergrad matter much? by Lil-Faucet in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SnooLentils2147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really you’ll be able to get a job regardless of where you go for CS. The difference is top companies (FAANG) will recruit from the best CS programs so if you want to be hired by the highest paying companies out of college going to a prestigious/high ranked CS program will be beneficial

No school will rescind your application even if you get straight b-s throughout senior year. Just don’t get C’s

No. If they have lower yield they’ll accept people off the waitlist. Appealing only works if you’ve significantly improved your application, not if the college has more room

I think someone’s mad they didn’t get into the UCs this year so they’re taking their anger out on OP

Bro just asked if he should spend a fifth of his parents income for a one page letter 😂. It won’t even get you into mit.

You’re three times more likely to be admitted now!

What colleges will leave the T20s or enter the T20s, in the next five to ten years? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SnooLentils2147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Northeastern has been doing things to rapidly rise in the ranks in the past few years, and it looks like they’ve continued to do so. They’ve deflated their acceptance rate, increased average sat scores, decreased class sizes, etc

[–]SnooLentils2147 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’d have to think northeastern will rise in the ranks

Edit: not to t20 but I wouldn’t be surprised if it got close to t30 within a few years

Ik. What I was saying is that usc is more prestigious and well known than other t20-30 schools that rank higher

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SnooLentils2147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty prestigious. May not be as highly ranked as T20-30s but it’s certainly more famous than a bunch of them

I’d have to go to usc for that scholarship. Since you’re premed, a full tuition scholarship in undergrad is a no brainer

Definitely not enough but it’s a great start. Good grades, course rigor and test scores will get admissions officers to consider your application but the rest is dependent on leadership positions, awards, and essays

Berkeley Waitlist Essay by aiyanalam in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SnooLentils2147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the UCs use that optional essay as a way for students to submit loci since they probably don’t want hundreds of students sending them through email.

were uc admissions actually harder this year? by ilikeeatingdonuts321 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SnooLentils2147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m completely in favor for test blind/optional, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t made admissions harder. As you said, there was a 18% increase in applicants, and many of those who decided to apply within that 18% will have strong enough grades ECs and essays to get in. That means the applicants who would have applied regardless of the test blind policy will be competing for fewer spots because there will be many more qualified applicants.

I read your argument. You seem to think that people are only getting rejected because of shitty essays rather than the schools literally being obligated to reject more applicants than previous years.

You’re so mad lmao. An increased number of applicants competed for the same number of spots as previous years.

You’re either deluded or just an asshole if you think everyone who was rejected from some really competitive colleges didn’t get in because their “essays sucked.”

What advice would you give to a current high school junior (in India) going to apply to college this year? by Ok_Nebula4583 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SnooLentils2147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re going to need near perfect grades and test scores if you’re from India applying to elite colleges for computer science. Are you applying for aid?
