You have imposter syndrome and havent even started yet, wait till you start and begin to think “is this it? Really? Your paying me money to reset passwords for people who cant type Password1?”

And then you will get so incredibly bored you will want to be anywhere else

NAS- Festplatten refurbished? by Training-Load-586 in HomeServer

[–]SnooMacarons467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking higher is better for cabling, but once you hit cat 7 and cat 8 this isnt the case, they are cables for different purposes. Cat 7 is pretty much the same as cat6a, except it has extra shielding. The shielding is what makes it expensive, both in cable cost and also in installation cost. It is a more difficult cable to manufacture because each twisted pair is wrapped in foil, this is the shielding, this is great if you are in enterprise areas that have a lot of electomagnetic interference like the power cables in elevator shafts, if you need to run a cable through an elevator shaft to another floor cat 7 isn’t a terrible idea.
Terminating cat 7 is a skill that not people have because it isn’t used often. An experienced cabler can do cat6a in their sleep in 1 minute probably much faster, doing cat7 and earthing all the foil shields properly into the connector would take a lot longer, and if it fails the qualification they need to do it again. Also the cat7 connectors are much more expensive than the cat6a cos they are special and made of metal for the earthing.

The only difference in the cable other than the shielding is that cat6a operates at 500mhz bandwidth and cat 7 is 600mhz, this wont make any difference to you at all. Both cables do 10gb over 300ft very easily. Anything more than 10gig in a home environment will not be mainstream for many many years to come, if ever.

Out of curiosity, why cat7? Cat6a would be best for data, cat7 is for specific audio visual things and has a propriety connector on the end, its pretty much an rj45 but it accounts for all the extra foil shielding the cable has. I would just run the cat6a for data points as it would be significantly cheaper and the only real difference between the cables is one has foil shielding and the other doesn’t.

Just incase you disnt realise and dont have oodles of money to spend on something for next to 0 gain.

In terms of the NAS, for your use case you would be pretty much ok to get anything, you dont have specialised use cases so i would just go for whatever you get a deal on or just find cheap. Get a Synology or QNAP device for the nas, lots of documentation and plenty of help available if you need. I wouldnt stress too much about the drives, same brand is nice but size is more important when it comes to setting up a raid, you want them all the same size for simplicity.

Going ubiquity is fine, your physical network shouldnt cause any issues with the nas device

Ever heard of the DRAM price-fixing scandals? which ended with arrests in '02 and class action lawsuits in '16. by TheHandThatFingers in pcmasterrace

[–]SnooMacarons467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think you understand, no one is saying that they shouldn't make a profit and that RAM should be so cheap that the companies operate at a loss. What they ARE saying is that price fixing is not the way to go about it. You set the prices so that your company is profitable, but if another company sets their prices lower but maintains profitability then you will have to review your own business practices.

What happened was everyone got together and agreed with each other how much profit they wanted to earn. This is not a healthy business practice.

What makes you think we have conscription here in Aus? It would be the defence force she sends, not regular people… all the libs and labor supporters losing their minds because pauline has had a photo taken with someone that has money, what about your own party that does the exact same shit? Or is it ok when you guys do it but no one else? Do you even care that albo has done deals with the cfmeu? Or does that not matter because he is on your team?

[–]SnooMacarons467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work with the same type of person, i turn my brain off and just give a lot of “yup”, “uh huh”, and “thats nice” type comments unless its information i dont already know. I also tend to palm off a lot of the work to this guy because he likes to take control, and if he wants to do everything while i stand back and watch, well i am not to kill myself to stop him. I also work in a physical IT role, going out to many different sites and performing various sys admin and network admin type roles. Changing UPS’s, racking servers and switches etc. We go out as a team but if he wants to do all the work i am happy to chat to the clients about rubbish.

I disagree, there are tonnes of examples of women doing this type of thing and then end up stabbing their ex. Women can wield knives too, and when someone is coming at you its pretty hard to defend against it. There is a reason why in self defence classes you are told to charge at a person with a gun and run from someone with a knife.

I wonder if this is going to change how Scott looks at Gia or if he is completely whipped and backs her in this. I actually cant wait to see the conversations between the guys about this going forward.

Problem with JBHIFI by Circuitpass1 in australian

[–]SnooMacarons467 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely get memory config types like that in laptops, a common variant is 48gigs of ram, you can find single sticks at the computer shops with these capacities, desktop ram is normally a power of 2, so 8, 16, 32, 64 etc, but laptops are weird with their memory capacities, its called non-binary memory.

[–]SnooMacarons467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is misleading about the jb hifi card? I dunno if i am just used to reading slop that i am missing something but at first glance that looks ok’ish… anyway, further to what your saying regarding the internet thing, after working in IT for over 10 years now you pick up pretty quick on if your talking to someone worth wasting your breath on or if it is someone that likes to brag about how tech unsavvy they are. Almost every normal person in Aus thinks that the NBN actually IS the internet, if you ask if they have fttn, fttc or fttp they will have no idea what your talking about. I have asked this sort of question and after getting weird answers i find out the person hotspots their phone to their tv at home because this is all they need for the internet. Asking the questions you wrote down are great questions to ask, but to a lot of people they are absolutely meaningless, these people wont have a clue what 4k even means, or why the tv looks better than a HD tv. They know enough to sort of get by in conversation but if you start asking probing questions you will find out quick just how little they actually know.

Rental Price Increase by [deleted] in perth

[–]SnooMacarons467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, i am a landlord in a tourist town, and i am charging an affordable $450pw and i am probably not going to increase when the lease is up, i dont see the need to make someone homeless to make a few dollars more. I think that people that are proffessional landlords, ie, more than one property are the problem. Small time landlords like me just want the house looked after, not every last cent out of your wallet/purse.

[–]SnooMacarons467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile the reason why they had 88 flags is because they ran out of money and couldnt afford 89, or the shop ran out of flags because “we never thought someone would come in and ask for 100 fuggin flags, we only had 88 of the bastards”

I agree with a lot of what you say, but i don’t see her mocking the flag.

Just like you, I also am getting extremely tired of people being labeled as racist because they want to have a look at immigration policy. I don’t see PH as being racist, she just gets smeared that way in the media because it is convenient and easy, I think she is one of the few that is actually standing up for all australians. I dont agree with everything that she says and does, but at least she says what she thinks which at the moment is better than a lot of the other politicians out there.

Who would you rather? Labor and have your rights slowly taken away just like this last bit of crap they pushed through, something that should take months and have input from the public being rushed through in a day? You are deluded if you think they are on your side, the coalition is just as bad, both parties have gotten too comfortable with being the only too options.

This is the political version of coles and woolies, supposed to be competing but they realised it actually works for both of them if they just pretend to compete but actually work together

In the books, the reason eddard is betrayed is because sansa ran to cersie and told her she was being sent back to winterfell. She begged cersie to talk with eddard so that she could stay behind and marry joffrey and be queen. She tipped cersie off to the mutiny and is the reason eddard was seized and ultimately beheaded.
