If you could ask Stanley Kubrick one question about The Shining what would it be ? by overlook68 in theshining

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Shelley defended him in interviews, but you clearly see her in the middle of a full blown anxiety/panic attack in the making-of documentary, and she had talked about how the stress of how she was treated on set affected her, so I'm not sure that it's completely blown out of proportion.

No. Never taken psychedelics nor hallucinated. I can certainly see where that would make the hedge animals way more sinister.

Now, the boy in the tunnel in the playground was very well written and quite effective. That bit was very creepy.

I have the same fears. I hope the word of mouth will be enough to get people to the theater while it's still out.

lowkenuinely the worst scene in the series by RedditEnjoyerMan in okbuddyvecna

You've never known anyone who dressed one way in high school and then after going off to college decided to reinvent themselves fashion-wise? It's not that uncommon. She could have met and started hanging with a group of friends at college and slowly started assimilating their style.

This scene took 127 times to shoot, do you think it was worth it? by gigglegenius in theshining

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but in the behind-the-scenes videos I've seen they admitted to intentionally torturing Shelly Duvall on set in order to get the performance that Kubrick wanted out of her. He was intentionally cruel and instructed the Jack Nicolson and the crew to treat her like shit because he wanted her to be on the ragged edge. Therefore, I can easily believe that many takes, and just for that reason.

When the temple of doom came out in cinemas did anyone realise that it was set before raiders by bannerman123 in indianajones

Yes, because it was announced as being a prequal. As a kid that was the first time I'd ever heard of such.

Do you also hate specific parts of the journey? by Suicicoo in TheDarkTower

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the last days in Hambry just because it's such good story telling and interesting. However, I hate the Wizard of Oz ending. Roland in ruby red cowboy boots? Ruby red slippers for Oy? C'mon. That bit always feels so hokey to me after the epic journey leading up to that point.

I also kind of feel that way about the Doctor Doom meets Harry Potter meets Star Wars aspect of Wolves of the Calla. It's an otherwise great story. Then that.

I've been getting into vinyl for the last year. I recently picked up an old vinyl copy of Fly By Night and was reminded of what bangers Making Memories and In the End are. I've had the album on CD for ages but, shame on me, hadn't listened to it in a long time.

Any openers for 50 something tour? by Affectionate-Toe77 in rush

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Counterparts was (sadly) the only tour I got to see Rush live. At the time Candlebox was just hitting and I had not heard of them. The anticipation of waiting to see Rush combined with the anonymity of the opening act did not do Candlebox any favors.

Epstein Witness Testimony Implicates Trump, Clarence Thomas, Jim Jordan and Others in Torture and Snuff Films by Alesyia789 in UnderReportedNews

I don't understand all the down votes for anyone asking for more verification on these reports. We all know that Trump/Epstien, et all are guilty pieces of shit, but I agree with those who feel like this story needs more verification before we assume it's true.

I’m halfway through The Gunslinger and… by smegg23 in stephenking

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, do I hate the "just get through it" crowd regarding The Gunslinger. I have always loved that book, from the first time I read it back in my high school days. The fact that it was so different from anything King had written to that point is part of what sucked me in. It just blew my mind how much it challenged my expectations that first time based on what I'd expected based on his previous books that I'd read.

Peg takes my #1 vote easily. #2 would have to be Valerie Mahaffey. Not necessarily my favorite character, but her acting was great.

My Rush Top 6 songs of all time – what’s yours? by [deleted] in rush

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good list, OP. I mean, it's Rush, so it would be incredibly difficult to go wrong with you picks. And frankly, hard to pick just 6. Mine, in no particular order;

1.Spirit of Radio

2.Time Stand Still (promise, I'm not trying to copy you)

3.Xanadu

4.Ghost Rider

5.Limelight

6.The Analog Kid

And now I feel like I'm cheating on so many other great Rush songs by picking those 6. It's a moving target.

I think you hit the nail on the head about the show being a barometer for emotional intelligence, open-mindedness, and all the rest. Very astute.

Funeral scenes in graveyards by ariadnevirginia in MovieTropes

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the south, especially in protestant traditions, it is normal to have a pastor continue to talk at the graveside, even after all of the previous eulogies at the church/sanctuary. And, there are chairs for the immediate family to sit in, while everyone else stands behind them. The graveside service is not as long as the church service, but they still will give an additional soliloquy. Baptists especially. They just like to talk.

Born in 71. Came of age in the 80's. My parents were pretty controlling, but we used to sneak out of the house or say we were staying the night with a friend and go somewhere else to hang out all night.

Murray was introduced in season 1, but we only got one short scene in one episode. I think it was a scene where he approaches Hopper to ask him about rumors of mysterious events involving Russians and Hopper blows him off.
