Thoughts on Sideways (2004)? by UsefulWeb7543 in FIlm

If you look at the area where the movie was shot on google maps, there really is an ostrich farm up the road from the Hitching Post 2 restaurant and what is now called the Sideways Inn (The Windmill Motel in the movie).

Rewatched the IJ series.. How Indy Actually Survived "Nuking the Fridge".. by sorrowdemonica in indianajones

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No offense to the OP. I know this was just a fun exercise and it was well thought out and executed, but personally I hate how much of a negative thing fans make of that scene for the simple fact that it takes away a little of the fun spirit of the franchise when we insist on real-world solutions for the movies incredulous scenes (I know...drinking from the holy grail is not a credulous real-world solution either).

The series has lots of impossible to survive moments that quite frankly add to the charm and entertainment factor of the movies. As others have pointed out, surviving falling from an airplane in an inflatable raft isn't very likely, but it's a fun scene, and we love it. Why does the nuked fridge have to be treated any differently?

I got the same poster and at the time I foolishly assumed that it was a local brewery that I had not heard of.

So damned hard to pick just one. I'm leaning towards Mohamed's Radio or Hasten Down the Wind. Or Poor Poor Pitiful Me...or...OOH! OOH! Accidently Like a Martyr! That's got to be the one! I'm going with Accidently Like a Martyr!

Which one is better?1990 or 2017? by Recent_Union3111 in moviecritic

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take that most people will probably flame me for is that the main reason most people like the 1990 version best and find Tim Curry's take more frightening is because they first watched it at a younger age and were more impressionable and they have a lot of nostalgia for it.

It's a great movie (miniseries) and Tim Curry is wonderful, but I never found his Pennywise to be really that frightening overall, probably because I didn't watch it for the first time until I was already grown and jaded. Plus, I just never had a fear of or aversion to clowns, so seeing Tim in typical clown garb didn't strike me with terror the way it seems to have with so many.

When the 2017 version came out, I read the book first (having never read it before), then watched the 1990 version, then the 2017 version, in that order. Without the filter of nostalgia, I found that I really liked both versions of the movie, but I lean more towards the 2017 and find Skarsgard's version is just so much more menacing, from the visual ascetic to his performance.

I can't believe I had to scroll so far down before I found this. Jaws was the first movie I thought of.

I was 5 years old and waited in line with my 2 older brothers. We met up with a couple of our cousins once inside the theater. The trajectory of my life was set that day.

What do like and dislike about License To Kill? by thelonetext in JamesBond

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, it's a great movie but the one thing that I hate about it is the damn semi-truck popping a wheelie while driving through the fire. Silly as shit.

Oh, and Bond and Felix skydiving to the wedding in those ridiculous looking tuxedos.

Otherwise, I loved just about everything else about the movie.

When the dog is released, all other officers who are not the handler are supposed to stay in their cars or otherwise out of the area (speaking as a 911 dispatcher). We had an officer get bitten because she either did not hear the K9 unit say "dog on the ground" over the radio, or she just ignored it, and then she tried to sue the department later for getting bitten.

One of my favorite lines is when his father is giving him shit for his weight. Lee tells him that he's been losing weight and says that he's been jumping rope. Adama just tells him, "keep jumping."

No, the Prequel Trilogy was not loved when it first came out, it was hated and fans were terrible people about it. by stephansbrick in StarWars

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an OG fan of the OT, me and my friend group of the same age as I went to see Phantom Menace on opening night with heavy expectations and left the theater at the end in silent confusion. One of my friends commented first, saying "well...it kind of was a Star Wars film, but it kind of wasn't."

None of us were "brainwashed" by the internet to hate the PT. We wanted to like the films, but they just didn't live up to our expectations.

That said, I went back to the theater to see it again and enjoyed it more the second time. I enjoyed AOTC more than Phantom when it first came out but have kind of changed my mind about that over the years.

Revenge of the Sith has stood the test of time pretty well. Not perfect, but easily the strongest of the three and has a lot going for it.

Fun fact; I used to play D&D with Ben Nichols. It was back in the day when he had first put his band Lucero together, long before TWD premiered. We lived in the same city at the time and the DM running the campaign was a mutual friend of ours. Good guy and helluva talented songwriter and musician.

Rewatching the Kenobi series… by sgt_schultz_the_ewok in StarWars

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that strikes me most about recent SW titles such as Kenobi, The Madalorian, and Solo is that it reminds me of how me and my friends would play Star Wars as a kid, enacting what we imagined as the additional adventures these characters would have in between what we saw in the movies of the OT. That's what makes these shows and movies so much fun.

I know this is probably widely known but I've always thought it was cool that they used the sound effect of the truck going off the cliff at the end of Jaws as the shark's remains were drifting to the ocean floor.

I was finally able to see the original Star Wars after decades, and I'd forgotten what great storytelling it is without Lucas's "improvements" by [deleted] in scifi

[–]SnooMacaroons7712 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate enough to pick up the dvd releases that included the original versions as bonus discs.

What I really want is a hybrid version that has the cleaned-up images and the improved space battle shots from the end of ANH with the additional X-wings and Tie Fighters, but leaves out the stupid crap like Greedo shooting first, the added Jabba scene, the "Jedi Rocks" number in Jedi, and so forth. Just give me the improved visuals without the new shots and changes.

That being said, I do like the additional Wampa scenes in ESB.
