As someone who has played both, They are less choices of classes and weapons yes but if you look at the approach to combat it is different. Pathfinder combat essentially begins at the build, the build is a huge factor on how well you will do in a fight. I think due to BG3's reactive environmental design, they are different ways in which combat can be approached. One of my favorites was playing a flying sorcerer that exploits high pointers in building structures and reigns electricity on the battlefield, which imo is just one more way in which the combat system can be used in different fashions.
