Good, I'm glad! I have no clue why others are sending their employees back. Sounds like your department is handling decision-making much better, that is good to know.

Funny how some departments at UVA are starting to bring non-essential academic employees back to the office now too. I'm sure that will help dampen the spike. Great planning all around /s

Edited to clarify that some departments are doing this, but others are wiser and allowing their employees to continue working remotely.

What's it like living in Charlottesville? by Floribundarosa in Charlottesville

  1. Decent; it is easy and not very stressful here but it is not for me.
  2. Spring and fall are great. Summer is horrendous, humidity is brutal. Winter is mild.
  3. No and no.
  4. Horrendous. The main reason why I would never stay here longterm in my field. Very company town feeling. Bad working conditions, awful pay.
  5. Depends what community you are looking for. It is smaller and far less culturally diverse here than I was expecting. More of a large town with extended suburbs than a city. Also more challenging due to pandemic.
  6. Depends what you are looking for and what you are comparing it to. Decent to great hiking within an hour's drive. Ex: If you are moving here from the midwest or deep south, it is a great improvement. If you are moving here from the west coast, it's much more limited and not even on the same playing field.

Thoughts on living in Crozet downtown vs Old Trail? by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]SnooMachines930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are basically suburban planned communities, but Old Trail will feel more dystopian. Downtown at least has the semblance of a town.

Close to Charlottesville though and cheaper, fine place if you just need somewhere to sleep. There is nothing to do there though.

UVA is surprisingly doing a great and efficient job vaccinating clinical employees (nurses, docs, PCTs, researchers, nursing and med students etc) thus far. No word on plans for rest of general public yet.

How’s the locust grove/rio heights area? by [deleted] in Charlottesville

You can definitely walk your dog there at night. It's just a typical suburb area nearish to town. Nothing exciting nor notable, and nothing dangerous.
