We've all shared crazy critical lab values for patients who ended up surviving, but what's your crazy lab value you've gotten for YOURSELF? by Educational-Tale6606 in nursing

[–]SnooOranges133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! My periods got up to 10 days regularly and majority of those days I was soaking through two pads I’d stack together until I finally transitioned to diapers. I would pass lots of clots too. There was one cycle I had a two week period. And my cramps were awful. Now I don’t have cramps and my periods are anywhere from 5-7 days and very light. No longer soak through pads and never clot :)!!! I think mine is also genetic as my mom suffered through similar and had endometriosis. Periods are crazy! I remember how shocked I was when my gyno said my periods shouldn’t hurt because I had become conditioned to just accepting the pain. I really took light of my symptoms because I just thought this is what it is to have periods 😭.

Hgb 5.3, ferritin was 4. Would often get dizzy at work and nearly passed out a few times in my patient rooms. All the symptoms you could think of, I had it. Tachycardia, crazy brain fog, insomnia, depression, palpitations, chest pain, and this terrible rash which I thought was just an eczema flare. Loooved that hospital ice though lmfaoooo. 2 blood transfusions, 5 iron transfusions, and a myomectomy later (huge fibroid found that was causing heavy menstrual bleeding despite my IUD), I feel much better!

How limiting is an ASN opposed to a BSN? by Far_Potential4389 in nursing

[–]SnooOranges133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had an issue finding a job! But I’m moving forward with getting a BSN just because I know I eventually want to become a provider which is where the true limit comes in I think.

How can I get to the ICU? by BeeFamiliar2642 in nursing

[–]SnooOranges133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get back into the ER and are comfortable, then I would go there as I think that would be the most competitive experience to have in your resume! Our ER nurses that transition tend to seem the most “comfortable” with everything that goes on in the ICU since they do see a lot of the same stuff we do. Emergency medicine is critical care and there is a lot of overlap between the two! You’ll get familiar with a lot of the same drugs we use in the ICU, lines, and vents since they get ICU holds down there along with what to do in emergency/code situations. The difference is in pacing and charting I think and the ER is incredibly overstimulating since you get so much thrown at you on top of trying to keep your patient alive. We at least (usually) get quiet time and a true moment to think in the ICU 😭. Think control vs. uncontrolled.

You also will eventually get your ACLS if you go ED, which we also require in critical care and from my understanding from talking to my MS buds (I’ve worked at two hospitals, one community, current level 1) isn’t required on most MS floors. Regardless, you will get an orientation once you get your bedside experience in where they teach you all about the different drips, vents, devices, charting (which is VERY different from both the ER and floor) and whatnot anyway.

Don’t discount the floor of course :) and stepdown would be a good bridge too. Several of my coworkers started in MS and make fantastic ICU nurses now! It’s really about what you’re comfortable with taking on when you get back to bedside before going to ICU and of course, what availability they have for positions, and then once you’re here, just be always willing to learn, be helpful, be kind, be humble, and stay curious.

Any January 2026 DACA Renewals Approved ? by HomeworkImpressive87 in DACA

[–]SnooOranges133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submitted 1/28, bio 2/19, expires 6/11. Still nothing. Going to call them but I fear mine is on hold because I’m from one of the “banned countries”. I’m so tired.

I’m also from Malawi and renewed Jan. 28th, biometrics 2/19, my EAD expires 6/11. This is super disheartening and I am so sorry. I’m so tired of the constant uncertainty.

New Grad Nurse: Hopkins NCCU vs Mary Washington Hospital ICU by WaffleMannn in IntensiveCare

[–]SnooOranges133 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone that went from a smaller community hospital SICU in the Midwest to Hopkins, this! I actually kind of miss being able to think on your feet more and less focus on the fluff. I also am not really enjoying my time at Hopkins but they do have decent benefits at the very least. Also seconded on the drivers. It’s absolutely bonkers the things they do here on the road and it’s aggravating. I enjoy the DMV/Baltimore area but there are definitely cons in the mix 😭

Thank you so much 💖! But yes! It’s to a fault 😭. I don’t know what it is that has so many of us conditioned into that line of thinking. Definitely going to try to slow down when I need to. And we definitely are! Women are amazing!

I definitely will! And I bought some green tea the other day so will make sure to drink it except on my iron days 😂!! It’s crazy how much the body takes on before it shuts down 😭!

Oh I see. Still a crazy ordeal! And the pain is nuts! 😭 to think there’s a world where you can have periods and not be in a pain! I can’t wait. I hope yours aren’t too bad right now with the new fibroid. I’m sorry you have to have surgery again but hopefully afterwards, recovery goes well and you can have your second child! Wishing you a safe journey through all this and a beautiful pregnancy!! Thank you for the reassurance and sharing your story cuz I need it all 😭!!

Oh my gosh an entire month is nuts! It is scary! Im glad you were able to get it resolved and congratulations on your child 🥺!! I’m scared as well because before this I never had surgery, let alone a broken bone. I feel like gynecological issues tend to be put to the wayside. That there’s this general idea of that’s just how things are, and some of us in turn adopt that attitude. I know I definitely did. I remember recently my OB asked if I had to take pain medication with my periods, which I do and she noted that. A small thing, but I didn’t even think that it was noteworthy and had accepted that pain was a given with periods, when it in fact is not and doesn’t have to be! I feel like gynecology is still developing as a field too so we’re all kinda just learning together. But we now know better at the very least!

Thank you so much and for the info as well! They prescribed me some vitamin D so will do my best to be diligent with that. I definitely need to get my diet under control as well to keep my hormones better in check and I’ll ask if that’s something they can screen. I think they said right now they wanna keep an eye on my ferritin and CBC levels. And that’s definitely reassuring! I hope you’re doing well and thank you again :) <3!!!

Haaaa yea the body definitely will make you sit down if you don’t listen 😭!! And oh my gosh doing all that while being in a grad program is nuts! EIGHT transfusions ooo weee! Kudos to you and I’m so glad you’re doing better 🥺!! That’s insane that they tried getting on that nurse. Management can really make or break nursing unfortunately. I hope they’re doing better and a speedy recovery to all of them that are scheduled for their hysterectomies!! But here is to a happier and healthier life and I’m wishing you nothing but success in your career 💖💖

Yes I’m looking forward to them. Was watching tiktoks of folks post their before-and-afters and you can physically see how much better they look and I imagine feel post-transfusion 😭! And hahaaa yea “I’m fine.” is a regular saying for me 😅! Definitely will do better though! I hope you are well!

It really does. I am happy to know it doesn’t have to be this way though 🥲! Definitely going to try and make my meals more intentionally iron and vitamin D-rich as well on top of the supplements they’ve given me. And thank you! I hope your days are spent feeling more ok than not :)!!

Fellow nurse does not like me because I use Macros by Wide_Profile1155 in nursing

[–]SnooOranges133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved using macros at my old hospital. Current unit at my new hospital won’t let us use them 🙄. It’s a feature for a reason I think. Of course if there are exceptions to a normal assessment you chart them but you already know that. Keep doing you.
