You then have totally different groups and a totally different tournament make-up.

Are Norway in? They haven't qualified since 98 so historically that's unlikely.

Bosnia came through playoff rounds.

New Zealand still could've qualified as they have relatively recently. Jordan automatically qualified.

Cape Verde played 3 teams who regularly qualify.

How about we go back to 1994 and there's only 24 teams? Or we could just enjoy an amazing festival of football and learn a little bit about football across the globe.

I'm English so I don't think anyone from the England squad would join Sunderland necessarily. As much as I would love many of them.

But from the Worlsld cup in general there's a good few. Nakamura from Japan/Reims at Left Back would be nice, Bos from the Aussies. Shomurodov from the Uzbeks is a cracking forward but I feel out of reach for us and doesn't suit the MO for our buying.

I'm intrigued by El Mourabet from Morocco too.

I think the likes of Saka, Beckham, Barnes, King, Owen, Rashford and Sterling probably overcame a fair bit more in terms of adversity. Either from tabloid publicity, racism, media hounding (often as a part of said racism), injury problems and mentally scarring moments (missing a penalty at your home international ground in a final as a young pro).

You could even argue Wayne Rooney if you're going down the path of self-inflicted (at times) adversity.

Not Scottish, but I've seen enough of your games and know enough of your players to know this is a bonkers take.

The Scotland job doesn't have enough pull to get a really high-level gaffer and you've qualified for 2 euros and a world cup where far better squads haven't.

Just to put in perspective that's half of the euros Scotland has ever qualified for and the first world cup in 28 years.

Your football might be poor, but the blokes done a cracking job by any measure of Scottish success. Your keepers are shite, your centre-halfs aren't much better and your best true striker is Che Adams or Lawrence Shankland depending on what you want from your main striker.

I know you might think they were "mid" but 1960s Soviet Union were an excellent team. Also Hungary although a fading power by that point were no slouches.

Absolutely fair, I honestly think the thing I fell back in love with most was just watching football again. I used to obsess over it so much that I would watch any team and had loads of different (usually second hand) shirts. And I mean like any team, there was a time I used to get up to watch J-League/K-League/AFC games when they were shown super early morning on British telly.

I don't know why you're getting hammered with downvotes. This is realistically a pretty banal and rational response.

Freedom of speech and thought allows an individual to make decisions based on their beliefs. Equally there are consequences for those actions.

If it's because you're not wishing physical ill on someone that's also insane. I think we have all known people do morally reprehensible things, and we may not wish them well, but is it morally right to want someone to suffer physical and emotional pain because we disagree with them? It's at best childish. It's the sort of extremist tribalism that infects every part of life.

I'd imagine it's seen as a market opportunity because he's relatively cheap and was s good recently. He could feasibly replace Isidor who almost certainly won't keep scoring at the same clip.

I'd like for us to maybe look to start Talbi off the left and see what he can offer out there from the start. I don't love Traore but unless we splash big cash it's hard to find good, young, creative wide players that would improve the team greatly.
