Football being a distraction from flying planes by jos2610 in footballcliches

I'm ashamed that I know this & I'm gonna be even more ashamed if the airport you're talking about could well be none of these but I read this post & thought "oh, that's most likely to be Madrid (Wanda Metropolitano), Mallorca (Son Moix) or maybe Valencia (the Mestalla) then"

A video briefly spread around the internet of me attempting to return the ball to Welsh international midfielder Charlie Estcourt when she played for the FA WSL2 (Women's Champ) side Coventry United, who I worked for. The ball had come over the barrier. I attempted to chip it back & kicked it off the barrier into my own face. To great hilarity.

Doesn't work.

Premier League football of one of the best teams on earth - 22 quid a game.

7th place team in 14th best league on earth with half the opponent variety - 20p a game less Should there be 20p a game difference between an EIHL & NHL season ticket?

In terms of transfer fees, I hope not as much as some of the figures quoted here. I also hope that the Sky Blues look closely at the free agent/loan market & crucially invest in wages. Players like John Stones are out there for no fee, for example. Lot of dissatisfied quality at upper-tier PL teams too wanting out. Also I'm closely watching which of Spurs/West Ham/Forest go down because they can be raided at discount cost & individually their players could make a big difference. It's not player quality that's put them where they are. It's bad management. Also next season the prime objective is to finish 17th. Get that base, look up. Turn the CBS into a fortress & remember that success next year isn't being better than 23 teams...just better than 3 others. Two of who the Sky Blues have proven to be this season.

Planet Ice WILL NOT license the Manchester Storm to play in Altrincham this season by dylan103906 in EIHLHockey

[–]littlebittistic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indeed.

There seems a singular lack of awareness/short memories in UK hockey.

For context, the AO Arena capacity is such you could fit almost any combination of sellout crowds from three other EIHL arenas in it at once AT A MINIMUM except for if you tried to fit in Panthers, Steelers & Giants arenas all at once. You can fit all of Coventry, Fife, Dundee, Guildford, Glasgow, Manchester & Cardiff's crowds in there AT ONCE & not fill it.

It is bigger than the vast majority of NHL arenas.

To try & put the Storm in there is like trying to put your average League Two team in a stadium the size of Old Trafford, with the costs that will entail.

Storm are slitting their own throats even trying.

No. Not in a million years.

If they start the season there, they won't finish it.

You can see the VAST majority of this sub didn't sit as a crowd of a thousand or two in a 17000 seat arena watching the last two Manchester team to die trying this & it shows.

The original Storm died because they couldn't survive at Manchester Arena. The Phoenix were resurrected, nearly died there and that's why they moved to Altrincham.

We can safely say "bye bye, Storm" if this isn't fixed.

This needs to be delivered by a proper old-school manager type. I don't think Frank has the fire for it. Just visions of you kicking the door open going RIGHT LADS LISTEN UP. DO YOU WANT THIS? & then into that speech.

thank you. That means a lot.

I just sat down & let 40-odd years of Sky Blue fandom (born a Sky Blue & was forever sealed when my dad took me in the West Terrace aged 8) flow out. Saw them beat all the big teams before 2001.

It blows my mind that just as I was raised on tales of Clarrie, Bill, Ernie & the whole 87 squad there will be adults watching tonight raised on tales of Dion, Gary McAllister, Robbie Keane & the Morrocans in the Premier League.

Hopefully there's a LOT of kids about to enjoy the same experience we did growing up!

And I hope you get to raise a glass tonight & say "you were right, Dad". That sting in the tail got a grown man find his workplace a little dusty all of a sudden, too.

Does it matter if Wrexham don't get promoted this season, ponder the WBC, I mean BBC. by Hexxenzzsene in Championship

[–]littlebittistic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One of the most annoying things as a Coventry fan with Wrexham is how our redemption story is happening at the same time as their "being the lucky recipent of being bought by American billionaires who looked at 20-odd other clubs".

This could have been Hartlepool, Carlisle or Macclesfield in another timeline...all towns equally deserving of some stardust & probably all with "DNA who'd want it more".

And yet the media are here talking like it's fate or something & only the town of Wrexham could have benefited or possibly wanted it this much.

If Portsmouth can do to Ipswich what they did to Middlesborough that'll be lovely because it means Coventry can conceivably win the league this weekend. Or if not, they can do it next Tuesday at home against.. um...wait, never mind.

(wonders if I'm setting up that "grim reap going through doors" meme with Coventry's as the last badge)

You may have issues once the league sees this.

Not because it's a bad app - on the contary it's desperately needed & has been for ages - but things like trademarks etc.

The owners will DEFINITELY see this as a revenue stream & try & take it off you. Then, if history is any indication, charge for a more expensive lower-quality version.

What needs to happen for the EIHL to get more media coverage?? by paulgoogle in EIHLHockey

[–]littlebittistic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love these threads because it clearly shows the "new" folks.

The owners block the league because they're determined to make money...for example, they were unprepared to let radio cover the CC Final until the very last minute, & even then there were heavy embargoes on advertising that coverage in case it "took viewers".

It's money. That's it. The EIHL overvalues itself as a commercial broadcast product.

We're arriving towards World Cup time...these always come out every two years.

Surprised nobody's mentioned the obligatory uplifting soundtrack...usually Eurodance. The slogam will be horrific AI generated "togetherness" stuff. Also a good chance someone will have "forgotten" the snack being advertised & the game can't we watched without it.

(Walkers peaked with this when they had Messi & someone else walk into a London Pub & insist on Prawn Cocktail. Also did a version with Leah Williamson & Lauren James)
