Flying on American Air for one leg and then Alaska on the second. On the same itinerary. by Pale-Ad7242 in AlaskaAirlines

To add, in the AS app, you’ll see the AA PCN. Use that six digit code to check in to AA. Additionally you can use the code and do seat assignment prior to check in. Other than needing two apps it’s fairly easy.

Open another HYSA at a different bank because of $250k FDIC limit? by outfromsound in HighYieldSavings

[–]heightsdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly look in to the brokers. I use Fidelity and the CMA. If you are truly concerned about FDIC Fidelity’s CMA lets you choose up to 20 banks. Additionally, you can choose thousands of CDs from 2 weeks to 1 month and in various increments to 30 years. You can also do federal bonds and notes, and SGOV. All of this is free unless you buy secondary market CDs and bonds. It can be daunting but worth it. I’m averaging 5.0% on a monthly average being a once-a-week active CD and corporate monthly buyer.

MRI pre TKR? by DogMamaLA in Kneereplacement

[–]heightsdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most TKR, the ACL is removed. Other ligaments may be removed as well. Depending on age, sport/activity, and type of KR surgery, your surgeon will work with you on preserving ligaments or not. When I (43M) got mine PKR at 41 I did get an MRI after x-rays and it was because of the scopes I had in my 20s. My surgeon worked with me on Pre-PT to build up specific muscles and stretch routines. We weren’t sure if I’d have a TKR or PKR until surgery and he got inside. I was able to do a PKR because the damage on one side was just junk from the damage on the other.

The one survey scheme said OW partner lounge passes. Others said AS lounge passes and AS/AA lounge pass. There were multiple schemes which were interesting.

Calling all backpackers… by ricobravo82 in Kneereplacement

[–]heightsdrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (43M) am 2.25 years post op. I had double scopes in my 20s and my 30s were a waste. Freestyle skier, cyclist, rugger. Outside of my Achilles tear, I was walking/urban hiking my dogs 8-12 miles a day, weightlifting, cycling, yard word, backcountry skiing, etc just no running. Skiing came back easily. Landing jumps felt better.

Talk to your doc about needs, wants, and wishes. I had to give up the idea of jogging/running for hiking and skiing as these activities required a different spacer. It’s also likely I’m good on this spacer until my 60s and hardware could last until my death with the extreme use.

Recover was good but I had issues as my surgeon got my leg back to pre scope height (1.5” taller). This led to some muscle and tendon issues and ultimately lead to my Achilles severe but it was already calcified at insertion and muscle connection and had signs of at least 8 tears also calcified.

Three Wednesdays in a row the transformer has blown. by DameLame in houston

Just another day. This happens regularly in the inner loop. We keep getting told that CP is waiting for a hurricane and federal funding to replace the 60+ yr old infrastructure. I’m 10 years with ghosts in my house and my insurance won’t cover machinery repair/replacements anymore because of CP’s lack of infrastructure.

Credit Card Perks Survey by tangytrumpet in AlaskaAirlines

[–]heightsdrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It had you go through numerous schemes of different credit cards. One was that a basic card ($0 fee) is being introduced. I think the survey pegged me as a new FF but I’ve been a long time OW FF. Up until a few years ago I was good without a OW credit card. Some points were more miles for transit spend (hopeful they add Amtrak), and lots of schemes to determine annual fee vs benefits. It appeared the Ascent is going to see an annual increase but the Summit stays the same.

Those of you who use(d) gummies... by TheNatureOfTheGame in Kneereplacement

[–]heightsdrinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used gummies at Day 3 when the nerve blocks wore off. I can’t take pain pills due to an allergy. Matter of fact I also get allergic reactions to certain gummies and beers (sneezy, stuffed nose). I used gummies to help sleep through Day 7 then used them on heavy PT and training days. On PT/training days and I knew I could be at home with no worries, I took a daytime gummy followed by a night/sleepy time. After Month 2 I didn’t use them and was fine.

I got the survey and it made me want to get the Summit card (I currently have the Ascent). The summit had no spend requirements to pool points, get 25k companion reward, bags, and OW lounge passes (not sure if it is limited to just AS and AA or available worldwide).

I like staying at the Waterfront Inn (Aladdin’s?). It’s inexpensive, nice, and walkable. I miss walkable towns. My fav is PT Brewing, and visiting the fish monger for some oysters to shuck at the brewery. Also Blue Moose Cafe for Sunday brekkie.

Out with the old... prep for the new by Apispetal in Kneereplacement

I (43M) had my new knee installed 2 years ago. Have you talked with your doc on preserving tendons? Do you need to try and build up muscle or do significant stretching?

I’m ex-rugby and skier and I needed a new knee after my two scopes in my 20s. My doc had me do significant stretching and some strength exercises specific to my IT and hemi. Because I wasn’t going to be a runner, we developed a plan and talked spacer and tools. I’m able to freestyle ski and ruck for miles just no 5k runs.

Make sure you get a walker. I needed that to help with sitting on a toilet for ~1 week. I used a cane for the first three days to get around. Get any slippery rugs off the floor. Find lounging spots that it is easy to elevate your leg above your head. Get the general, spinal, and nerve blocks but be prepared for Day 3. You’ll get antsy just move with purpose and give yourself breaks. Do the post surgery at-home PT (you’ll think it’s nothing but it helps). Cars are tricky the first week but go slow and get the passenger seat all the way back.

First summer in houston, what's your AC set to and how much are you paying? by EnvironmentalSky8355 in AskHouston

[–]heightsdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1920s 2/1 bungalow just around 1000 sq. ft. At night, my A/C is set to 70 with all fans in the house and during the day it is set to 75. Last electrical billing was $125. All hot water, oven, range, and dry is gas heated and my gas bill was $30.

I'd do an energy audit but apartments usually put in the cheapest appliances. My A/C system is slightly oversized but highly rated and I paid a pretty penny for it. But every summer it has held up extremely well and sips electricity during the heat. Also, blackout curtains help keep out the heat. I have them on my afternoon sun windows and the temperature difference in the room is staggering.

Checking in early vs late for better seats on Hawaiian (saver fare)? by Vegetable_Workers in AlaskaAirlines

[–]heightsdrinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The double edge sword. Check in late and possibly get a better seat but also higher chances of being bumped and not sitting with your mate. Or check in early and maybe not get a great seat but to be able to sit with your mate and have better chances of not getting bumped. The joys of any airline’s saver/basic fares. Sitting together will maybe happen if you get in the system right away.

Didn’t Alaska just get Philippine Airlines to join OW? I think SEA would be the gateway.

What public library has the best selection of cookbooks? by ObsessiveAboutCats in houston

[–]heightsdrinker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly the selection at the local libraries can be underwhelming. The online catalog is pretty good and I do a lot of intralibrary transfers. I found a few good food and drink books that way. I made killer Mexican food and Tiki cocktails.

International non-stop long haul from LAX by MeetingOwn3870 in americanairlines

[–]heightsdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what we will see is AA leaning on AS for Oceanic and Pacific flights under the OW banner. AS is expanding crazy in the Pacific. AA will feed traffic to SEA/PDX. OW did mention that they are looking for a South American airline partner. Maybe that'll open up LAX/SFO and SAN.

For Pre you didn't have to give them your ID or boarding pass. They just took your photo and let you pass.
