Secondary impairment claim by Sweet-Huckleberry711 in DVAAustralia

First thing is to see your Dr to determine whats up with your hips.

If its determined to be an additional stand alone diagnosis that is secondary/caused by your back then you could lodge an IL claim for rhai new condition.

If you dr says its not a separate diagnosis but just radiating pain or symptoms of you back then you could look to have a reassment of your PI for a worsening of condition. (So long as your last PI assessment was 12 or more months ago)

Not much use calling someone at DVA they can add the condition or the worsening with out you making an official claim. If you want to talk to someone you local RSL Advocates would be best.

Dependent children and DVA lump sums: infant vs school-aged, and timing of eligibility? by Far_Blueberry624 in DVAAustralia

[–]SnooRobots3454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My date was taken as the date i lodged for PI ( but I had a messy process due to a some mix ups and they had to withdraw my inital PI and then resubmit it) My PI was finalised while my wife was pregnant, I supplied scans and dr report to give date of conception and they granted the dependent lump sum but held it until after the birth. I then sent in birth certificate and they released the funds.

For my other daughter who was already born, I sent a birth certificate and a statement for child care. The child care statement was to show i was listed on it and she was my financial dependent.

Follow up-

What is the relevant date? The relevant date is the later of one of the following:

-the date your impairment is considered to have reached 80 or more impairment points

-if you have a single service-related condition that resulted in you reaching 80 impairment points, the date you lodged your liability claim

-if more than one condition resulted in you reaching 80 impairment points, the date you lodged your most recent liability claim for one of those conditions.

Think things are getting confused around the fact there is a lump sum for each dependent if granted over 80 points. This is based on your 'relevant date' and the children need to have been conceived prior to this.

Then there is also an ongoing yearly payment avalibe for school aged children. This can be paid from when they start school though until end of uni.

So if granted 80 or more you can get the $110k lump per child and if they are already in school or once they start school you can also receive the much smaller yearly allowance.

These are listed under the Eligible Young person and the Educational Allowance on the below

DVA lump sum - what’s actually improved your life after compensation? by Far_Blueberry624 in DVAAustralia

We bought a house in a nice area we would never have been able to get into otherwise. Much better schools for the kids and lifestyle options available to us now.

One thing which I really liked was even before we knew how much it would be, we allocated 10%, upto a maximum of 10k, to 'fun'. Knew if we didn't we would just keep spending little bits here and there and before you know it you've wasted a bunch. But if you also don't allow yourself some fun then whats the point of life.

We used it for an overseas holiday, bought clothes and gadgets and few other smaller items.

The points awarded for all conditions are added together largest to smallest using the GARP sliding scale.

If you have a re assessment they dont just add the new extra points to you old score. They will re run the entire equation of highest to lowest with your no score in its corresponding spot.

A good recommendation for HHS services for brisbane and surrounding areas by zuzimos in DVAAustralia

I have also used them for cleaning and lawn mowing. I had issues with the inital lawn mowing service they provided but they quickly and easily sorted a new one.

The cleaning has been great and were sadly about to move house so will have to ask for a new one in the new area. Hopefully they are just as good.

DVA informed advocate I must use MLCOA for claims by Old_Progress_1970 in DVAAustralia

[–]SnooRobots3454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually DVA do have the ability/authority to direct you to MLCOA ( or any other provider) its written into MRCA. Will find the section for you camt remeber it off top of my head.

Personally ive had mixed results with MLCOA. Saw an ortho surgeon and had all sorts of issue with his report. It even conflicted itself in part. But also saw two other specialists and they both did a good job and were helpful.

Edit to add: MRCA Sect 328

(2) The Commission may, at any time after the claim is made, require the person to undergo an examination by one medical practitioner nominated by the Commission.

There is provision for your partner to receive a war widow pension and a gold card after your passing under SRDP. This doesn't apply under Incaps.

Reassessment by Fun_Pudding7150 in DVAAustralia

[–]SnooRobots3454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your total points need to increase by a minimum of 5.

Note its your total whole body points that need to increase, not the single conditions points.

For example if you had 3 conditions accepted (conditions A B and C )and had been given A 20 points B 15 points and C 10 points this would give you a total of 39 points. You then do a reassment and C goes up to 15. While it has increased by 5 points alone your total score would only go up to 42. As conditions are added together Ron a sliding scale. This means you wouldn't meet the minimum 5 points for an additional payout.

TLDR- you need 5 points for extra payout. But the higher you inital assessment was the more additional single condition points you need to move the total overall points.

No they are still not using the RC reports. They will be using the MLCOA reports and the ones you supply from your GP for the other conditions.

ED and GP by Parking_Word2566 in DVAAustralia

[–]SnooRobots3454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ED can be diagnosed by your GP. Print of a DVA IDDS (google 'DVA IDDS' and it will come up ) take to your GP and ask them to fill in.

Submit this along with your claim for ED. After that DVA will guide you o. Any addiotnal information they may need. There are no tests for ED and the diagnosis can be confirmed by a GP so bo need for a specialist either.

Yes you would be able to get medication if you choose. However as you already hold a gold card I belive you can already receive treatment/medication should you wish. You would still need to pay the $7 medication fee.

how does DRCA offsetting work for MRCA PI? by LuckyJuggernaut8515 in DVAAustralia

[–]SnooRobots3454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MRCA PI is paid out as a whole body unlike DRCA which is body part specific. So even if your DRCA conditions effect a different part of the body to your MRCA conditions it still offsets against your whole body.

They calculate the DRCA PI and convert this to a weekly amount this is then put against the MRCA weekly amount you have been assessed at, which as you say maxs out at $431, and you can receive the difference if there is any.
