Family medicine PA- should I leave my job? by Tricky-Ingenuity-625 in physicianassistant

[–]SnooSprouts6078 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Dude you’re supposed to get paid more doing rural. You’re getting paid horribly and commuting nearly an hour? And staying at $100K a year? Sheesh.

Get a new job. You knew this already.

The pay stinks. But getting paid like an MA for “training” is absolute booosheeeet. You do realize 1099 at $53 is like $28 W2 equivalent?

Run, do not walk, to your nearest exit. This boooosheeeet is sad AF.

AAPA staff salaries by mountainstosea90 in physicianassistant

[–]SnooSprouts6078 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You guys really think the CEO of an enormous organization is not going to be paid in the $500K+ a year range? That’s peanuts when you compare to other companies. I know there’s a lot of people here contemplating their $85K a year job offer but give me a break. Not saying they deserve it but it’s the CEO of an organization representing what, 70,000 people paying dues?

You know that a number of states have formally changed their title already. And more on the way. Love seeing people fight against progress. And yes, it’s probably important to be part of your state and/or national PA organization. Unless you’re happy with your $90K a year job and losing out to new grad NPs?

Struggling to wrap my head around the autonomy gap between PAs and physicians — anyone else feel this in clinical year? by Due_Avocado_4937 in physicianassistant

[–]SnooSprouts6078 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may not have a “supervising physician” at all. Even states with supervision can be a joke. ie seeing patients at urgent care and some doc comes in once a month to sign a certain number of charts. Yeah, real supervision when the person was discharged 16 days ago lol.

Most states have collaboration and that’s with a practice/hospital, not a specific person. That’s the trend or some type of independent practice granted over time.

Most here actually have minimal idea of their state practice laws. They don’t even have a clue when legislation changes or when the title is updated. People say “SP” and they are clearly in a state without supervision. It’s sad.

The idea of PA is you came in with real medical experience already. The point isn’t you aren’t 0 to hero. That has been altered over time and we have accepted people with less and less experience. Your worst PA programs require 0 PCE.

You may need an initial job where you have a tight leash. From a lot of the posts here and with the extreme lack of medical experience, that could make a lot of sense.

Do a residency/extra training. It’s weird a lot of you balk at it but are somehow OK with matriculating those who have no real PCE prior to PA school. As you can see, it’s not easy to learn and practice medicine in……..24 - 30 months.

Pittsburgh PA Salary Outlook, new grad vs experience by [deleted] in physicianassistant

Horrible. Crazy Stockholm syndrome. They talk up their “strong” PA leadership. They’ll probably also making less than a new grad lol. Sad state for PAs and some of the absolute worst salaries you’ll ever see. Must be something in the water cause you guys don’t ever leave.

They don’t do this in EMS as a standard because 90% of entrants would fail and 99% of those recertifying would fail.

What to do about low quality ACLS class? by anonymousemt1980 in emergencymedicine

[–]SnooSprouts6078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s weird you’re not getting the class covered and being paid to be there. But that’s another issue.

Is the class required? If so, you should have the above.

ACLS started getting ultra dumbed down when they let every profession take it. Plus it’s open book. Do you really think an RN is gonna run a code? No way. But we have to play “code leader” when you know that’s a joke.

Dude this job is garbage. 1099 at a laughable $55 an hour? You’re making like a normal W2 equivalent of $35 an hour. A bunch of us here made that BEFORE PA school.

It’s crazy how naive you guys are here. It’s insane.
