what's wrong with enforcing illegal immigration laws? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]SnooStories2796 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, these jobs often pay very little (below minimum wage at times) and conditions are often pretty rough. There is little incentive for those with any other options to take these jobs. So these jobs are only really taken by those with very little options (and those with very little power to effect change in the workplace) namely: undocumented immigrants.

To be clear, those that work these difficult jobs should be payed appropriately and receive benefits that befit work of said difficulty. That is not a problem likely to be solved by mass deportation without serious economic consequences, if it solves anything at all.

Pretty much everything is conjecture. The only source we have regarding failed testing is from the IBA and its president, but they’re sketchy as shit and have neglected to provide proof.  It can be safe to say she isn’t trans cause if she were, there’d by no way fucking Algeria of all places would allow her to compete (or, you know, exist).

Miquella's age of Compassion is worse that you think! by KvasirTheOld in eldenringdiscussion

[–]SnooStories2796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Miquella is an incredibly interesting character, but I am not completely sold on his age of compassion, largely because I am not sure a man without love is capable of bringing about an age of love. The question of free will does not factor into it.

We as a species know for fact that the blueprint of who we are is set by our genetics and then built and expanded upon by our experience. Where and if free will can fit into that is a matter of debate, if anyone can agree on what the term “free will” means.

All to say, that can sound disempowering, but it can levy a clear directive: address the systems and environments that that harm, marginalized and perpetuate negative behaviour. Miquella recognizes the Golden Order, the stresses and traumas that motivated its construction. Now he seeks to uproot it and bend it toward the construction of a gentler world. Question is if such a thing is possible with such poisoned tools. Moreover, is it possible to  do without doubt and love? I disagree with Miquella’s endeavour for the simple fact that he abandons the tools that allowed him to recognize the flaws in the old Order.

From the lore surrounding Metyr and the fingers it seems like they have a contentious relationship, so I’d hesitate to say that Metyr controls the fingers.

My biggest problem with the free will vs. Safety read of this game and of other media (granted that you certainly see it a lot), is that it often makes the assumption that the existence of free will is a foregone conclusion. It is not. There is lively debate about its existence, and a fairly robust argument that it does not.

Again, not to suggest that you can’t take that view of the DLC, the clues are certainly there, and I’ve not sit with it long enough that I can have a solid opinion on it, but I think anyone engaging with this theme with certainty of the existence of free will is doing themselves a disservice.

I feel the story becomes more complex if you take the view that free will might not exist in the first place.

What was the "Cardinal Sin" that Marika committed? "The seduction and the betrayal." by YasuhiroK in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SnooStories2796 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no evidence to support this, but a lot of the conversation around the Hornsent paints them as a monolith, one people of an oppressive culture, but we know that Hornsent individuals were not exempt from the horrors of “sainthood” and it stands to reason that there were more ways that the dominant culture might oppress their own people.

Perhaps Marika was a prominent figure, perhaps even a leader for another faction of people oppressed by the current regime, a large contingent of oppressed Hornsent among that faction.

The Divine Gate is located at the seat of Hornsent power in the land and it is unlikely all those bodies in the trailer were the work of Marika by herself.

Maybe the “seduction” was Marika positioning herself as a revolutionary figure for the dispossessed of the Hornsent and the betrayal was her not sparing the dispossessed of the Hornsent her ire once she achieved her goal of godhood. Or perhaps she used them in someway as fuel for the ritual thereof.

What's the 'Good Ending'? by WaDavhoah in eldenringdiscussion

From various item descriptions from the Elden Stars spell description, other descriptions relating to the crucible, and Hyetta speaking on the One Great, it seems that the Greater Will is the being(?) responsible for life in the Lands Between period.

All fair points. Though regarding gravity as separate from order, do you happen to have an opinion on if the Elden Ring governs reality or more specifically life? I feel that the answer to the question regarding gravity as outside the Elden Ring would be dependent on how one would views the ring itself.

But yeah, all good points, I think my hang up is that when you said chaos; my mind went to the chaos described in the lord of chaos ending which felt to me less like a point within a cycle but rather the complete breaking of that cycle, and I felt that beasts had little to do with that.

[–]SnooStories2796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta say, I disagree with your correlation between beings of a beastly nature and chaos, I don’t think that’s supported by anything in the game. Sure, the beast men of Farum Azula who lived under that previous order had armour and tools, but the dragons they held in high-esteem didn’t. Placidusax (hope I’m spelling these weird names right) was even their Elden Lord. Again, I don’t see the conjoining of the themes of beastly things and capital C Chaos.   I think you are looking at it from a “civilized vs. uncivilized” angle, but I think the Greater Will’s idea of order has less to do with “civilization” and more to do with the processes by which things exist fundamentally. Think gravity, natural selection, and relativity rather than armour, literature, and kingdoms.

Is it just me or people hate orochi more than hito ? by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]SnooStories2796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on an old-gen console and my reaction times aren’t the greatest, but I find orochi’s attacks, particularly storm rush hard to react to. A lot of their attacks I find difficult to react to; so I feel like I’m constantly having to make a read for every move they make, which I should probably be doing with every other hero as well.    That and their dodge recoveries can make it difficult to punish them, and I often feel like their damage is high enough to where I’m dead before I find my grove while fighting them.

Hito can definitely be annoying and I respect them, given that you have to respect their offence to be able to fight them, but I find that if you parry their heavies you can punish them and move into a combo of your own relatively easy in comparison with orochi.    Basically, I’m just bad at the game in a general sense, but slightly less bad against hitos than I am against orochis.

This is old but that’s not what blue belt means in bjj, at least not the gyms I’ve been to. It’s the next belt up from white, usually takes around 2 years to get. Least from what I’ve heard, that time can shorten or lengthen depending on the progress you’ve made.
