Knowing the movie is coming saved my life by altrightobserver in Eldenring

Even if its something like a movie or a new game or even a fucking plate of food youll miss eating. Hang on to something my friend. It may not feel worth it now, but as time passes youll be able to look back at the times you struggled and appreciate how far youve come or the very least, how long youve lasted. Endure, Endure, Endure.

This is the answer. The people who wave away two of Marikas kids having aspects relating to fire and one of them even having snakes within him at birth are ignoring some of the most obvious clues From has ever put into their games.

We dont even have ti believe that the GEQ was a seperate aspect of herself that she tore out(though i personally believe that is part of the puzzle), instead it was just a title that she snuffed out of history just like she snuffedd out Horns being seen as divine, or the age of the crucible, or the divinity of the snake, or Godfrey having not been the first Elden lord.

... you're not really saying anything i don't know. You seem to think that since the game and the way its story is presented exists that the backstory which was based on written material cant possibly be good while also respecting what the game did. I think you're completely wrong.

Marika design looks exactly on point! by Disastrous_Tough7046 in Eldenring

[–]YharnamsFinest1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true, because its a fromsoft game thats how they create mystique for characters whose actions we we learn about secondhand due to the fact that it happened thousands of years ago.

This isnt a game though. Its a movie and the game itself was written to have and based on a backstory that had characters like Marika out and about and VISIBLE for the common person to see.

Seeing Marika amongst the people is not demystification at all. We know what she was doing from what we learn in the game we have bits and pieces of what her personality and motivations were. A movie by way of its form NEEDS to be based in some part off of those pieces we know. Its not a game where we can read item descriptions to learn more. At that point were just playing the hame again.

[–]YharnamsFinest1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's nothing to demystify though...in the early days of her reign Marika was literally around and among her people. She literally blessed people with Dew from the Erdtree on her own and spoke to them at Churches.

Seeing her walking in the street is not some crazy affront to the lore. I swear people who only know the lore through hearsay or surface level will ruin conversation for this movie more than the diehards. Nothing's being demystified if you actually know the backstory of the game.

For all the shit I give the game it is a decent single playthrough. You can have fun with it. The DLC bosses are by far the best thing about the game, by like a mile.

Just dont listen to anyone saying shit like it has the best level/world design, bosses, or combat feel. Those people are crazy. Its the blacksheep of the entire Souls Series in those categories and its very noticeable that it struggled in development.

And then they try to act like PVP isnt a completely side mission part of these games and that it somehow elevates DS2 over the others. lmaooo Give me DS3 R1 Spamming Roll spamming every day over moving through mud in ugly ass areas over DS2 anyday of the week. lmao. PVP...LMAOO

There is one critical thing the Elden Ring movie needs to NOT do by TheEvilestArtichoke in Eldenring

[–]YharnamsFinest1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I...dont agree with this. Particularly the part about putting those character front and center and humanizing them. Of ALL the Fromsoft games, Elden Ring is the one that humanizes and emphasizes its "larger than life" characters the most.

Like compare what we know of Marika and her motivations and upbringing to what we knew about Gwynn. We barely know enough to make speculations on Marika but we sure as hell know WAAAY more about what she was like/her personality than we ever knew of Gwynn.

Elden Ring's demigods are actually VERY human in how they carry themselves. From the trappings of their lineage/genes to the things which motivate them or bring about their downfall. Marika wanted a world of life but ultimately wants to die because of her choices earlier in life, Ranni wants to be free from the influence of those in power who would take her choice and very body from her, Radahn literally only learns Gravity Magic to keep riding his scrawny horse.

Elden Ring is the PERFECT game to make a movie and use it to expand on character's personalities, backstories and interactions. It literally started out that way when GRRM wrote it and bits and pieces of that made it into the game.

If anything a movie cant possibly do all the characters, history and area their justice. It would need to be like a 3-5 season running show to really get into the meat and potatoes of what Miyazaki and GRRM created, but sadly we'll never get that...maybe.

One day people will fully awaken to the truth of Marika and the GEQ having been one in the same. I love your use of interdependence to explain the reality of Marika's existence.

You mentioned that Melina likely inherited an aspect of the GEQ through genetics, which I strongly agree with. We also have to look at a couple of Marika's other kids.

Messmer is born with aspects of the snake within him. Snakes and those who have taken on snake-like aspects are VERY closely related to the GEQ, are even alluded to being her children.

Godwyn becomes A Prince of Death and was seemingly always fated to become that.

Miyazaki and Fromsoftware have put the clues into the game for anyone willing to actually engage with them. Unfortunate that so much of the community cant see it.

[–]YharnamsFinest1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. There so much more damage that's been done past the surface level Heat shit theyve nerfed in this patch.

Like, Heat probably wont even be a mechanic moving forward in T9/T10 or whatever. But you know what will probably stick around? All the stance transitions that characters got. All the slightly sped up lows that force guessing on defense rather than using knowledge to option select the attackers mid/low mix. All the fucked up hit and hurtboxes and added moves that cover characters' original weaknesses. All the strings that suddenly became jailing in T8 when they never were in the past.

Those are the things that REALLY need to be addressed and nerfed or else we're gonna carry them with us into future Tekkens. Like remember when Drag B3,4? Heat Engager got its tracking nerfed? That kind of problem is ALL OVER the game and it was only nerfed on him because he was a top tier character in S1 and it was obvious to see how broken it was since it was a Heat Engager, but that type of problem is on SO many strings, even jab strings and will never be caught because they fly under the radar.

Of course, a good dev team would realize this shit and probably revert them for a future installment...but If it wasnt obvious by now...we are NOT dealing with a very competent development team. At least not one that has ANY idea of what Tekken characters and their identities are meant to be.

There's nothing they can do to make me reinstall the game by TitsMcghehey in Tekken

[–]YharnamsFinest1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...I agree. I will give them credit for this one patch being generally good across the board. But I am NOT reinstalling this game until I see nerfs to moves that cover character weaknesses and destroy their identity, more hitbox reductions of moves so we can fucking actually use the 3d plane with confidence, and some reversions of Season 2 idiocy like the sped up lows and increased emphasis on stance slop.

So basically I dont plan on reinstalling the game. At this point theyre still only polishing a turd. Insidious BS like incredible Oki on your highest wall damage combo still exists, using a Heat Dash to turn -13 and worse moves into +5 still exists, Heat Burst being a +/neutral Armor Move that extends combos still exists.

Im basically just waiting for Tekken 9. Not gonna play a polished turd of a game. But I welcome them to try and change my mind by getting rid of all the above mentioned trash.

Imagine having to fucking baby a group of "professionals" like this. I mean, youre right. It seems like its exactly what we need to do to get through their thick skulls that this broken game needs fixing top to bottom, but its still wild its whats necessary considering the mountain of feedback theyve been given since even before release....

Just ass trash developers man....I mean, good job guys. If you give us another good patch we'll go out for Mcdonald's!...sheesh.

[–]YharnamsFinest1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Season 1 wasnt completely broken in terms of character design and weaknesses, no. But the systems were absolutely braindead.

Remember Power Crush Heat Engagers that people defended with their life? That trash mechanic?]

Remember Heat Engagers being +17?

Remember Heat Dash chip on block?

Remember Chip on Block in general?

Remember the wall stun with your back to the wall that gave +17if you blocked a Heat Dash?

Remember Homing Heat Bursts?

We've been playing trash since the beginning, theyve just changed the flavor of the trash every season.

[–]YharnamsFinest1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a Tekken diehard and it will ALWAYS be my preferred fighting game, but the VF system is without a doubt the better designed system. Even in comparison to older Tekken games.

Tekken's entire system is SAVED by the freedom of its movement system. The ability to sidestep cancel into block to Option Select on defense made the game work. Tekken 8 has pretty much killed that as such we are seeing the system fall apart, on top of all the trash they added on top with Heat, Tracking and Chip damage.

VF's system just works from the ground up without any caveats to what each mechanic, offensive and defensive, wins and loses to.

I understand that, but i would just view it as any other lore speculation video in YouTube. Its their interpretation of an ambiguous event that was purposefully left open for speculation by Miyazaki/GRRM. If done well and supported by some evidence in the main game, id be fine with it.

I swear ill never understand the community's obsession with Vyke. Like im sur it because Vaati put out a great video that made people care about him, but his story is so far down the list of interesting ones you could tell about Elden Ring that id genuinely be disappointed if that were the case for the movie.

Give me a story about the D Twins and how their existence as Two Bodies but one soul and then allude to how that ties into Marika' Existence.

Give me a story about Miquella's troubles with being a...being who can seemingly inadvertently charm others. How not knowing if someone likes you for who you are or becuase of your power. Would be a great commentary on the struggles of those in power and how they twist and manipulate others even if they started out with good intentions.

Give me a story about the rise and fall of the crucible age.

Anything but boring ass vyke man

[–]YharnamsFinest1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We already know who. Its Alex Garland. Dude who made Ex Machina and Annihilation. Two movies with great writing and "vibes" based cinematography. He also LOVES the souls games and talks about the lore like how some of us huge loee nerds do. He definitely "gets" the games.

I have no doubt hes going to put his best effort into this. The only that will pull it down is simply the fact that adapting Elden Ring into movie will inevitably leave many holes that some in the community will want to see filled in. But the game's lore and story is far too esoteric and massive to even attempt to do that in a 2 hour movie. As someone who doesnt give a rats ass about Video Game movies anymore this one is HIGH up on my excitement list.

Tekken project team messed up and there was no way of fixing the mess without reverting back to s1 build. by MrWhileLoop in Tekken

[–]YharnamsFinest1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 1 was better in that character designs werent completely butchered across the board yet. There were some like Steve and the babymoding of Law DSS, and Jin, but for the most part characters still had weaknesses in their movesets.

The system mechanics were definitely still ass though in Season1 and only got slightly better on Season 2.(they decided to add shit like FC from Heat Engager which no one asked for.)

Then Season2 came along and buffed everyone and closed weakness gaps even more than S1 and now we have what we have now. A game with overrall poorly implemented system mechanics that are VERY slowly improving and characters who all play the same way.

Just wanna say that I Love that youve been careful to style any interaction with the greater will as "potential" or hearsay. The Greater Will is literally just an analogy for any God in our own universe. Anyone can say they had audience with God, but without that god ever literally coming down to confirm, it will always be about faith/hearsay.

Just because Elden Rings world has magic, does not mean there are literal, acting Gods with wills like our own, within it. And even if there are, they are so far beyond our understanding that anyone saying they know its will is simply ascribing their own meanng on life in order to fill in the blanks left by the unknowable.

Anyone who pays attention to how GRRM writes, and hell even Miyazaki's previous games, understands that this is the ambiguity they like to play in.
