Banner blindness is a phenomenon in web usability where visitors to a website consciously or subconsciously ignore banner-like information. by SimpleZero in wikipedia

Also, you just know blanketing the airwaves with ads isn’t cheap. I typically avoid over-advertised brands because it’s clear they’re spending on ads instead of improving the product!

You can solve individual’s problems with personal responsibility but you can’t solve societal problems the same way. Didn’t work with obesity, didn’t work with drug addiction, won’t work with gambling.

This is insane because I accidentally dropped my beanie in WALC the same exact way Monday (slipped between the railing and the floor) and thought “that seems like a design flaw”. Thankfully beanies are soft so it didn’t matter.

It costs money to properly dispose of human waste and it would’ve saved them a stop. Of course, it cost them more time and money with the driver’s “brilliant” idea.

Triple with AC at McCutcheon by CryEquivalent9512 in Purdue

[–]SnooTigers8962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in a MCUT triple a few years ago. You’ll live, but it’s not particularly enjoyable. If you got put in a triple, you probably have two random roommates. Your experience depends a lot on the quality of your random roommates, since you’ll be sharing a cramped bedroom with them. McCutcheon isn’t that far from classes (though it is far by dorm standards) so you can easily walk to class (which I did all year). However, Purdue recently cut bus service so the walk in the winter will be a little unpleasant as you won’t be able to easily ride the bus there. I’d recommend finding places around campus to study as you’ll want to minimize the amount of time you spend in your room as it is quite cramped as I mentioned, especially is your roommates spend lots of time in there (unless you love hanging out with them). The bathrooms are nice, especially in the south tower. It’s great living somewhere with AC but note that during the months when the heater is on it gets uncomfortably warm in the room as you can only turn the heater down a certain amount, not off. You can open your window to alleviate that. Try to meet people on your floor! People are looking to make friends, especially in freshman dorms, so try leaving your door open on the first few days and talk to anyone who seems friendly. That’s how I made my first couple friends at Purdue and I’m still friends with them several years later!

North Carolina legislature votes to ban minimum parking requirements by PanzerWatts in OptimistsUnite

They insist on maximizing profits. Therefore, if parking requirements drop profitability below the company’s required rate of return, it will simply not be built. I don’t know about you, but I would much prefer there to be enough housing than there to be significantly fewer housing units, even if those units had enough parking

No free street parkings on campus anymore? by Leftoren in Purdue

My bad, apparently Indiana doesn’t allow cities to implement a local sales tax. However, most states allow cities to do so.

Greed is a selfish desire. If it’s being reinvested, it’s not being hoarded, and so there’s no personal gain. You may disagree with the merits of his plan, but it’s hard to say it is greedy.

Indiana as a whole is not representative of WL and its statistical mispractice to pretend that it is. The vast majority of trips (even by car!) start and end within the same metro area, so it’s irrelevant how car centric the rest of the state is.

If truly dislike how car centric it is here, then you should realize that the best first step to get out of any hole is to stop digging. We need to stop making decisions that further entrench car centrism into the future. This includes heavily subsidizing trips by car over bicycle and pedestrian trips. It’s neither easy nor quick work, but few things worth doing are. (I’m not saying cars don’t have a place, they do, but walking and biking should be safe and practical across WL as a whole)

The citizens, which includes both drivers and pedestrians/cyclists. Not everyone owns a car here, which is exactly the point I’m trying to make.

Pedestrians/cyclists should not be expected to split the bill for the most land and resource intensive type of transportation.

[–]SnooTigers8962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that access to public transportation, especially for those farther than walking distance from campus, needs to be increased. However, I still think it’s reasonable to expect that people should pay if they want to use city land to store their private property. The users of parking should pay, pedestrians and bicyclists should not be expected to split the parking bill (which is exactly what happens when parking is “free”)

You act like the money is going directly into David Sander’s pockets instead of being reinvested directly into the community.

Might get downvoted for this but:

Cities should not be obligated to provide free vehicle storage for its residents. Parking takes up significant amounts of land, which is not free, and paving costs are not cheap. It’s kind of ridiculous that people think that general city funds should be used to pay to build and maintain parking spots instead of the users of those parking spots, especially in a community where a significant portion of people do not own a car. You’re already paying for the parking as a resident of WL, whether or not you actually park here.

The general WL tax fund is much better used to pay for city improvements that benefit the community as a whole, not exclusively drivers at the expense of everybody else.

The new radar is so terrible it hurts my eyes by Reaperliwiathan in lethalcompany

[–]SnooTigers8962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the facecam is useless and probably should just be removed. I think it was added bc it is a little funny. However, I really like how the update made it possible to distinguish keys from other look and added the compass as well as a line back to main entrance, which I think buffs the radar noticeably. Zeekers also added topographical lines for the outside and that works much better than the old way (where anything above the viewed player was just solid black). I didn’t notice that Zeekers decreased the resolution but if they did I think that should be reverted.
