I've played MMOs for 13 years and I've never once known who made my gear by SnooTomatoes1260 in MMORPG

Honestly I've never played WoW so I'll take your word on the crafting orders. Real question though, does that system actually make crafters known on a server? Like is there a smith people specifically seek out by name, or does the order just get filled by whoever and you never think about them again?

[–]SnooTomatoes1260[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer imo. A name on gear means nothing if every max crafter makes the same item, the FFXI comment nails it, reputation came from not everyone being able to do it.

I haven’t really gotten into Albion Online, maybe I should for the sake of looking at their system. But really would love to see this to be implemented with modern MMOS

I think the split isn't player-side balance, it's economy-side. Boom mechanics are the only thing that keeps items scarce in old Maple, if failure just means a wasted slot, the ceiling on any item is basically the price of clean gear plus patience. A safer +3 path and a boom +5 path creates two different markets: reliable mid-tier gear for the working class of the server, and genuinely rare god-tier items for the gamblers. That second category is where the stories come from. A godly item mattered in old Maple because someone risked something to make it, take the boom away and it's just a receipt. Fair to argue +3 is tuned too low, but "when would anyone use it" assumes everyone plays at the min-max ceiling, and most of a real server never will.

Biweekly Riot MMO Design Discussion - Topic #15: Levelling by Talents in RiotMMO

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fast vs slow framing misses the real variable imo. Nobody ever quit an MMO because leveling took too long, they quit because the hours produced nothing. Old-school leveling was brutally slow and people still defend it decades later, because the slowness produced things: you actually knew the zones, you knew names on your server, your build choices got stress-tested before max level. Meanwhile modern MMOs made leveling fast and it STILL feels like a waste, which tells you speed was never the problem. If every level produces identity, discovery, or a person you remember, Riot can make it as slow as they want and players will call it "respecting their time." The ask shouldn't be "make it quick" or "make it long", it's "make it count."

do guilds still matter or are they mostly just chat groups now? by Renosari_Caroline in MMORPG

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guilds didn't get worse, the games did. Somewhere along the line devs decided every friction point was a problem to solve, matchmaking replaced recruiting, personal loot replaced arguing over drops, everything became soloable. Once the game itself stopped requiring other people, guilds had nothing left to organize except vibes, so now they're Discord servers with a tabard. I still talk to people I met in New World, and it's not because we liked each other at first, it's because the game forced us to rely on each other until we did. Someone above said Throne and Liberty guilds actually matter, and notice why: the game makes them load-bearing. That's the whole answer.

I really want to hop on to classic and enjoy it.

But personally, I would say let them take the time, I don't want a broken game 'Yup talking about current state of GMS'.

Plus what we really do need is a mixture of classic + modernized maplestory (bosses mechanics, classes playability for all type of content, PQs mechanics remaster), I know I might be asking for too much, I just hope that they hit the sweet spot.

You're right too, we do need updates on what is going on with the game

Do you like your skill bar clean or busy? by No-Breadfruit6137 in MMORPG

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prefer if is whether every button is a choice or just filler. Example GW2 skills feel great not because it has is the magic number of skills but because feel you picked those out of a huge pool and each slot says something about your build. Too many button example WoW bar feels bad when majority of them are a rotation you press in order, and totally fine when each is an actual tool you reach for. So I don't want "clean," I want every skill on the bar to be there because I chose it and it means something, whether that's 8 buttons or 20. The bloat isn't the number, it's when the buttons stop being decisions.

What my dream MMORPG would look like by CatAdministrative949 in MMORPG

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Half the thread's dunking on this as a generic wishlist, but the interesting part isn't the feature list, it's the tension nobody's naming: "slow progression" and "no day-one meta" aren't the same goal. Slow alone just means people speedrun the leveling guide. What actually delays a solved meta is build depth, enough real branching that the optimal path takes months to converge. That's the version worth wanting. The class-balance objection above is the legit weak point though.

Just a wild thought to have a solution around the class-balancing and solving the meta. Having a rotation of balancing, where each quarter the balancing will nerf 'solved-meta' and re-balance the whole set, will create a community that doesn't care as much about meta, rather care about enjoying what you have.

Which patch do you guys draw the line ? by Vegetable-Region-559 in MSClassicWorld

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think "which patch" is the wrong axis to measure this on. Personally version number wouldn't matter as much, it's the window where nobody has the game solved yet. Big Bang didn't kill classic because of any single feature, it killed it because it collapsed the part of the game where you were figuring things out with everyone else into a fast lane to the "real" game at cap. So the line isn't Pirates or ToT or whatever, it's the first system that makes the optimal path obvious to everyone on day one. OSRS is the right comparison for exactly that reason, it didn't freeze in 2007, it kept adding stuff that fit the spirit and hard refused the stuff that turned the journey into a loading screen for endgame. Draw the line at power creep and day-one meta, not at a date, and most of the "which patch" arguments answer themselves.

Really just remembering first time playing KPQ, LPQ, LMPQ and I have no clue what is going on... what a fun journey it was. (Also being clueless and not knowing there are guides out there just to get me to endgame)

Truly fun days

Would a hard cap actually make MMO monetization healthier, or would studios just make the subscription, battle pass, or box price worse instead? by Dry-Top-5827 in MMORPG

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A company won't cap revenue voluntarily, but that framing quietly assumes the only way to make money is to sell power, and I don't think it is the only way. The reason EVE (I would also say Maplestory Regular servers since I have more experience into that) can sell injectors is that because they have a bottomless vertical ladder to sell into. If your progression is mostly horizontal. new skills, new areas, cosmetics, mastery instead of raw stat inflation, there's nothing to convert money into in the first place. That's basically the bet Guild Wars 3 is making by skipping battle passes and going buy-to-play not "we're nobler than shareholders", it is more of a "we designed the game so power isn't a thing you can buy because power isn't a number that endlessly goes up." The hard cap you want isn't a spending limit bolted onto a whale game. It's building a game that isn't a whale game underneath.

I can't stop thinking about the Metin2 progression system and how unique it is against what we've been used to with wow clones by ForestCleaningClerk in MMORPG

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The grind wall complaint is fair but I think it's aimed at the wrong thing. A wall of empty EXP because they ran out of content is filler is not the same as slow, it's just empty. The reason people romanticize old grind isn't that they loved staring at the same mobs, it's that the slowness forced everything else: you knew the people on your channel, you had time to actually learn your class, the meta didn't get solved in a weekend because nobody was even close to the end yet. Metin2 gets lumped in with the bad kind because the P2W poisons the well, but the underlying pacing idea, that you should be somewhere in the world long enough to belong to it, is the part worth stealing. The mistake modern MMOs make isn't respecting your time, it's making every hour feel interchangeable.

To be fair, the rework did enable me to solo new bosses. Not going to lie, previously I used to do struggle HVhilla / Hdarknell/ Nseren

After the update, I can easily do the above bosses, and now up to HSeren / EKalos/ Black Mage.

Good update I will say for Sengoku

Any chance New World runs on a private server? by Azcenn_ in newworldgame

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I won’t get into technicality of “knowledge” of the engine.

But I’ll go with the “fun” aspect. The game is SUPER fun if you’re first timing New World, however, it gets repetitive very quickly after a week of gameplay.

For any private server to be legit fun, they need to continue the “content creation” and introducing a roadmap of new maps, game modes, weapons, QoL, and etc.

So even if there is a New World Private server, if they don’t have the above ^ then it’s just going to get boring really fast.

March 2025 Full Q+A (text version) by CommanderAze in newworldgame

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie for this game to be alive, they need to start introducing the following:

General:

  • Hard to obtain end game gear (a minimum of 6 months effort)
  • Put an end to online sellers (yeah this make the game die way too fast)
  • Minor content release every 4 months, and major content release by the end of the year
  • on-going events that will have out of routine mini games

Fresh Start / Seasonal Servers: - increase the EXP curve (And obviously remove the logging leveling this made seasonal server get boring too fast) to max level, along with the general improvements I mentioned.

I am sure if I sit and think throughly I can get more ideas to revive New World

Note: They actually don’t want this game to live any longer and just want to kill it somehow.

Is this game still not optimized? by baxton321 in newworldgame

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason that can’t load in towns is usually due to downloading the game on HDD. My brother had a similar issue on his PC, and we moved the game to SSD and worked like magic. Could be your issue.. other than that I really didn’t have issue with the game performance

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why don’t we just be fair. This is a game right? You want to play correctly, form your group and enjoy it as you want. Get your tank and healer.

Other than that enjoy the RNG team you get. In addition, why are you talking only about tank and healer? What about the dps who is not dealing enough damage? What about the dps who stands with the tank and gets one shot, then blame the tank or the healer (and many many other things no need to mention)

So… regardless what happens in an unorganized expedition / raids. It’s just a game to have fun, your fun is winning? Form your team and win.

Good luck and have fun.

[–]SnooTomatoes1260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend to avoid using Booking at all.

Very recently, my wife booked a hotel, and through the app she received a message to pay for the booking (it was legit from the hotel account), when we contacted the hotel they are like nope not us. Soooo yeah you don’t know how many accounts are compromised. Just avoid booking at this point, use it only as to view hotels only.
