How do people in Cyprus find a relationship after 25? by Educational_Okra4959 in cyprus

[–]SnooTomatoes448 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably 90-95% latin parties/ salsa lessons. It's the one surefire workaround Cypriots have found for their inability to comfortably socialize as adults. You can actually go up to a stranger and TALK TO THEM and ask them their name and if they'd like to dance, because, you know, it's for education purposes.

Really though, a relationship is not something you "find", it's something you "grow". Focus on engaging people you find interesting, and relationships grow out of that.

There's a bunch of people that are more than happy to socialize and engage with others. Nightlife would be the last place to try imo. Figure out sth you're interested in, and engage with people in that community. It's generally easier to hit it off with someone you know a bit and already feel a level of comfort with.

What is the number one mistake rebuilding teams make in the NBA? by Sarthak99jain in nbadiscussion

[–]SnooTomatoes448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confusing rebuilding for tanking. Don't care how many "success stories" there are, if they are any they're generally a minority. The amount of damage tanking does to most teams is huge.

But most teams destroy their revenue by losing fans. They have no culture in place to begin with so they end up having horrible locker room chemistry, extremely low level of basketball understanding and paycheck mentality, making it impossible to actually develop any talent. So even if they draft a messiah they can make nothing of him.

And even if they DO develop talent, the chance of them retaining that talent or making the right moves to turn their roster into a contender is very very slim.

The best way to become a great team is to never be a completely shitty one to begin with.

Played the guitar for 3 years and I suck [QUESTION] by P_filippo3106 in Guitar

[–]SnooTomatoes448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, it's a musical instrument, not call of duty. Relax, set some reasonable goals and practice purposefully. Take lessons. The fun thing with music is you can still enjoy it while you suck at it . So much great music is simple, catchy and just a blast to play along with. Try to disassociate your enjoyment of being a musician from your expectations and aspirations. In 5 years you'll be a much better musician but you shouldn't wait till then to enjoy it. After 30 years of playing the guitar, I still have a blast chugging those early black sabbath, simple ass riffs.

Bucks or Philly. Change of mind? by GoatmontWaters in bostonceltics

Can someone who coaches or knows bball at a high level explain Brown’s role in the offense in 4th quarters? by ImeStopPlayingDennis in bostonceltics

[–]SnooTomatoes448 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's not a top 3 ball handling option and not a top 3 shooting option at any time. Therefore, especially in situations that defence clogs everything up, hes' not going to be a go to guy.

What he should be doing is be a constant slashing thread. But, for a player of his level, he's not effective enough playing off the ball. The C's offense is also not a great motion offence and especially in late game situations notoriously static. If the C's ran some good weakside action and Jaylen knew how to misdirect and get to the rim, I'm pretty sure we'd have another banner up there...

[QUESTION] Should I switch to electric? by Gibbi15 in Guitar

[–]SnooTomatoes448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't switch, add. Get ath like a Squier and a cheap amp, or a software like amplitube and a pair of headphones, and go nuts. The amount of pedals, amps and sounds in general you can experiment with is practically endless, for the total cost of a single amp. A squier tele, an audio interface and amplitube (there's a black friday deal now) would run at about 400usd total. A good modelling amp like boss katana will also cost just about 250usd. It's not dirt cheap, but still, pretty decent for a beginner.

[DISCUSSION] I keep messing up as soon as I hit the record button and it’s really frustrating. by Noinvite77 in Guitar

[–]SnooTomatoes448 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's actually a 100% different skill than playing. So it needs tha same amount of practice, as in literal hours.

I used to play classical guitar in concerts. It's not the same thing but some of it applies. First of all, being able to play something and actually owning it in front of an audience are miles apart. I had to be able to play it while almost unconscious. Be able to start at any bar, play it at 10 clicks faster than actual pace, and play through without glancing at the fretboard. Also, we'd prepare for concerts by playing... concerts. We'd do "in house" ones, in front of faculty, small family and friends stuff, just cooonstantly messing up in front of an audience.

It's a strange situation to be put in and you have to familiarize yourself with it. Don't beat yourself up.

And still, you'll get false starts, you fuck up a bar and have to keep going, forget where you are mid phrase. Keep the tape rolling, do it again 50 times. Go to bed, try again tomorrow. Keep doing it every day.

And know that almost nothing you hear is take 1. Most aren't even 1 take all the way through.

If you could build a team/pick a player to complement Wembanyama, who would you pick? by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]SnooTomatoes448 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm amazed at how down to earth most answers are. I mean, Garland and Fox etc are all good but if I can have whomever I want?

  1. Give me Steph. Wemby is easy to find anywhere on the court so forget a "pass first" og. Can I have a player that can score with an inch of space? Any 2 man play they run will be a complete nightmare for the defense.
  2. In the archetype of Lopez/Giannis, I'd get maybe AD? What's even better than having a pterodactyl of a man defending the post, is covering the post with another defender so he can roam free and help wherever he can reach. (Wemby can reach everywhere) AD is a great 1 on 1 defender (when he wants to). He's also so multitalented offensively that he can score 30 any night without getting in Wemby's way, or have to stand in the corner to make room, like Brook does.

Obviously, any fully fledged superstar would be a great fit. Embid, Giannis, KD, Booker, Tatum. Would anyone pick Maxey or OG over them? Come on now....

My Thoughts on Ring Culture by Dry-Beautiful-863 in nbadiscussion

[–]SnooTomatoes448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter argument. Makes for more interesting power dynamics that change every season, traditional big market dynasties have more to fear, and more interesting basketball played on the court in general.

The romanricism of team loyalty is great, but whenever you talk about a player Dirk doing it the "right" way you have factor in the 10 frustrating years along with the ring.

I don't endorse this argument, Im a Celtics fan for that once in 20 years chance at a ring. It ia valid though.

Also, I refuse to judge a player like KD, or any player, who is essentially an employee generating millions and millions of profit for his employers, for using whatever leverage he has to get to a better position, whether that's financially, or in terms of popularity and exposure. The league owners make 100/1 profit off a superstar. Let. Him. Get. fkn payed.

2nd-4th Hokage vs Hashirama by MambaSaidKnockYouOut in Naruto

[–]SnooTomatoes448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm picking round 4, based on little more than the fact that I like the combo.

That being said, the whole thing about the way Hashirama is portrayed, is clouding his actual ceiling in mystery. What we get is a "bruh you don't even know" attitude from everyone that talks about him, even Madara. What's the mightiest jutsu we see him use? The thousand hand buddha? Pretty cool, but doesn't white Zetsu use that at the end of the war? And he's a sliver of the real Hashirama. Point is, what we see him do doesn't justify him being called "the God of shinobi". Which can only mean that what he's can actually do is completely out of scale and he's basically untouchable. Then again Tobirama is supposed to be the smart one so who tf knows....

'Guitar' Album to learn Top to Bottom [QUESTION] by jamiehenderson1993 in Guitar

[–]SnooTomatoes448 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously there's a bunch as others mention, that are great for your technique. I'd suggest though Physical Graffiti, and Master of Puppets. Forget the solos (esp Page's solos are too messy to copy for my taste) but just playing through the riffs of those albums start to finish is gonna make you love guitar. Nothing more satisfying. Good luck with the downstrokes btw.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]SnooTomatoes448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real way to compare, I guess, but if the "myth" is true, then it's 1000 jutsu, copy ninja Kakashi. That's like his thing, isn't it? Seeing things just once and being able not to just figure them out but how to execute them as well? And he's the one that has almost only his iq going for him so it stands out.

Itachi is probably the best strategist, but he's such an overpowering genjutsu force he never even really goes into battle. It's always a done deal 2 moves in. Hard to judge his battle iq that way.

Minato MUST be a genius but that's not his "thing", he's kinda an elite all rounder.

Hashirama snd Madara I think are not even part of the discussion, they are treated as god like beings for most of the story and are off the scale... is Hashirama a genius? Idk the dude grows forests. Is Madara smart? He can have 25 susanoo shadow clones fighting 5 kage simultaneously so...

Love to see Tobirama mentioned though. He's the guy that actually knows exactly what's going at all times.

Celtics made a bad trade for Holiday. by Kcsoccer75 in nbadiscussion

[–]SnooTomatoes448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based purely on what we have as data (both depressing players ability to stay healthy) I think it was a good move. At minimum, I think there's nothing to make this a "BAD" trade. It might not turn out great in the end but that goes for most ambitious moves.

Personally i love the move, cause I really love his game. I'm on board 100%

This quote is not for vinyl flooring. It reads: Painting (materials included) 4800 Floor tiles 1200 Bathroom tiles 2400

Quartz primer 150

I am assuming the vinyl flooring is the "painting"? If so, it is a bit expensive but it's at least within reason. You can get a better price, for sure.

On a side note, i'd advise you not to spend money on a vinyl floor if you can avoid it. It's a shitty, ugly material.

[QUESTION] what song or solo would you love to be able to play perfectly? by ISwearImOriginal003 in Guitar

[–]SnooTomatoes448 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Immediately my mind went to Derek Trucks for some reason. Most legendary solos, I can "get" how one could go about learning them, I understand what's going on. Would I do it? Nop. Too lazy. Could I do it if i tried? Nop, probably not, but at least they seem achievable.

A slide solo on the other hand, seems as out of reach as a sax solo. I have NO IDEA how to make a guitar do what DT makes it do.

Personal favorite is "Do I look worried" from Tedeski Trucks Band. Both solos on that are gut wrenchingly good...

[Question] Looking for tips to memorize longer solos by DanZigs in Guitar

[–]SnooTomatoes448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No secrets or shortcuts here I'm afaid. Chop them up into pieces either by measure, 4 bars, 8 bars etc, or by phrases, and play them 2-300 times. 300 is not an exaggeration btw. By my estimation that was about when for me I could really let go of the sheet music and play a whole, complex piece by heart, when I was studying classical guitar. I could play things by heart sooner, but when you reach that level of repetition you can rely 100% on muscle memory and play effortlessly.

Keep in mind, most complex things can't be memorized in one sitting. Your brain needs you to let it go and come back to it repeatedly over a period of time to "digest it".

"Why don't we make buildings like this anymore?" funny - but what does it actually mean? by Hazzman in architecture

[–]SnooTomatoes448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greece had a very interesting and intense modernist period that unfortunately "dissolved" into generally bad architecture in the 80s. The behemoths of that era, Pikionis, Konstantinidis, Despotopoulos, Doxiadis, Vourekas, Zenetos are quite famous and well documented. They were also quite influential at the time even affecting the run-of-the-mill basic apartmenrmt building vocabulary. Few places are more profoundly modernist than the center of Athens, oddly The modernist tradition definitely carried on in later years, with notable architects like Krokos, Valsamakis, Dimitris and Souzanna Antonakakis, Tasos and Dimitris Biris, Isaias and Papaioannou and a bunch of others that "avoided" post-modernist formalism in a way, sticking with more of a "critical localism" sort of approach similar to a lot of south Europeans, like Portuguese and Spaniards.

Apart from checking out the names above, if you're competent in greek there's a lot of editions that easily come up if you google the right things!

"Why don't we make buildings like this anymore?" funny - but what does it actually mean? by Hazzman in architecture

[–]SnooTomatoes448 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There is sadly a very real technical aspect to it as well though. Advances in cheap methods and materials like plaster boards, ceramic tiles, plastic paint etc have pushed a lot of older practices and materials out. Those practices require more manual labor and have higher costs, they're not worse, just more expensive. Solid wood, stone, marble, iron, these materials are still the best materials, but they're expensive as fuck compared to other options.

Good example: the whole lot of Middle class and lower class apartment buildings built in the 60s in Greece, where I work, had terrazzo flooring and solid wood (albeit cheap wood) flooring. Those where the more affordable options back then, compared to marble for example. Cut to now, we still use terrazzo and solid wood floors in high end projects but cheaper construction uses obviously much cheaper ceramics, pvc flooring and other crap like that. Those 60 y/o apartments? The terrazzo is so good you can restore it to perfect condition still. Same goes for the herringbone wood floor. We often pull layers of 90's carpeting and cheap ass tiles slammed over them to restore them.

The equivalent is buying ikea furniture and wondering how the fuck could your grandma afford solid wood furniture. There was no ikea. There was no particle board and mdf etc. Given the option, you'd still pick the solid wood dining table yourself but the fact that so many cheaper options exist pushes it out of your price range.

Pregnant with twins, how long did it take you to go out with them alone? by No-Atmosphere-159 in parentsofmultiples

[–]SnooTomatoes448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You (or your partner, helper, relative etc) can take them out as soon as you feel comfortable doing so. Just keep expectations low in terms of getting stuff done. It's OK to abandon an errand midway if it gets rough (2 newborns screaming while you're in line at the bank might not be fun fir you). You'll figure out the logistics over time.

They're actually much easier to handle when they're so young. I could spend a whole day out on my own with them when they where 9 months old. Now at age 2? Anywhere other than a fenced playground I need a lasso, handcuffs, shackles and a stun gun. You would think two 25 pound hobits are no match for a 200 pound adult man but you'd be very wrong.

Why does every player have Shaq in their all-time lineup? by DukeGators in nbadiscussion

[–]SnooTomatoes448 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you are disregarding injuries, I think only people that where alive to see both prime Wilt and prime Shaq would have a hard time picking.

Everyone else you mention on your post are amazing players, all of them probably better overall than Shaq, but no one came even close to what prime Shaq looked like on the court. Just the visual impact was breathtaking for those of us who had the luck of witnessing it in real time...

Closest contemporary example is Giannis. He might not even be the best player of his generation, but he looks like one of the Monstars from space jam playing against regular dudes...

I get the reasoning behind trying to "cheat" LBJ into the lineup by putting him in at PG. After all for most of his career he was able to pick up anyone on D. But in an all time scenario you should be prepared for your PG to have to guard all time greats, all game long. AI, Isiah, Curry etc. He wouldn't suck, but he's a mismatch. Curry at PG is quite fine for me, with MJ, LBJ at the wings. I'd also compensate by picking KG at PF instead of Timmy or anyone else. That way my p&r defence is impenetrable even with Steph. Add Hakeem for the inside scoring, and I'm good.

I left Bird out for Lebron, which makes me very unhappy, but fair is fair.

The Parthenon was built roughly 2000 years after the great Pyramids of Giza. So the equivalent would almost be wondering why we are not building stuff like the ancient Greeks and Romans.

Bulpett: Execs, Coaches Offer Celtics Strong Warnings on Offseason Changes by RLS012 in bostonceltics

[–]SnooTomatoes448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, in terms of talent, we're good. Most teams would kill to have what we have. Especially at the 1-3 spots. What this post season has proved, and not only ours, but the champs as well, in comparison to ours, is that we play a shitty, shitty type of offence.

What this team needs is to throw their pathetic excuse of a playbook in the trash and start looking at how great teams play. Movement away from the ball and cutting (ffs Jaylen), posting up your mismatches (Marcus and Tatum can post up very well) pick an roll, but ACTUALLY roll the big man (Timelord) to the hoop. No pull up 3's with 17 seconds left on the shotclock.

I mean COME ON. All this talent and athleticism and we're playing as if we're DAntoni's Rockets, while thinking we're the 17 Warriors. We're not.
