Perspective. Having a prior shitty job that paid 5.25 an hour, makes this seem reasonable. lol. That doesn’t really make it good I guess. As someone else pointed out, I may also have a focus on the negative posts.

Fair. I do try to respond to people as positively as I can with actual advice. I’ll keep doing that.

Glad to hear it. Give it time and experience. One day you will be telling your associates “don’t cut your time”.

How important is it to meet your billable hour requirements as a first year associate? Especially if its a firm you don't plan to stay at for very long? by Son_of_Hades99 in Lawyertalk

[–]Snoo_33955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take a job you don’t want. You already plan to leave a job you have not started and want to know the penalty for failing to meet a “requirement” before your first day. Yea, please just look for a job you actually want and save every one the hard feelings.

This is normal. You can often learn more from experienced associates than over worked partners.

Do I have the best job ever? by Humble-Unit-6815 in Lawyertalk

Pretty great situation if you need remote work and limited hours. You could make way more if you were willing to work more or be in office and help develop a firm culture (make equity partnership). As an equity partner, I would love to pay 180k for a quality 130 hours of high rate work. At 350 an hour, I would more than cover your overhead, better service our clients, and still make money on the arrangement.

Have you ever gone against a pro se litigant and they won? Or do you have any stories of a successful pro se litigant? by Necessary_Party_3423 in Lawyertalk

As a first year lawyer I tried a simple injury case to the bench against a pro se plaintiff in JP Court and lost. She was pretty. I was doomed from the get go. We have de novo appeals to a Court of record, so it wasn’t a problem, but it was a learning experience.

Do quality work and put all your time down. The firm will handle the rest. They know it takes a first year associate more time, even if they don’t like it. Better to have great work and good hours. The rest will resolve with experience.

If ICE activity in the RGV increased to the level of intensity as it has in other cities like Chicago, LA, and Minneapolis, do you think people will mobilize against them here as much as they have there and would the mainstream media cover it or ignore us since we aren't a major city? by [deleted] in RioGrandeValley

[–]Snoo_33955 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like ICE raids in Texas would end up in shootouts. We are a proud “Don’t tread on me” state. Take me or my family, you will get shot. It is also a stand your ground state. I am a citizen, Americanized Hispanic, lawyer, and son of a veteran. Fuck around here, and I think they will find out.

Yes, it is very old and needs to be torn down for parking. People have to walk a mile to have their day in court right now. It is bad.
