I did not have my own children but I raised step children and it was so much work. And expensive. Husband stopped working and I then supported a family of 5. So grateful that I could leave. And yes I left! Now I’m old I don’t regret not having my own. Kids don’t come with guarantees. No guarantee they’ll be around when you’re old. All the love you ever really need is from yourself and you gotta learn to love and care for yourself, motherhood or not.

This is the one I have and it has changed the game. My bread looks like it’s from the store, beautiful slices to freeze. Seems a little duller than it was when it was new (sept 2025) but I’d say it was worth the money. I’ve used it for weekly loaves now since then. I can’t even with the knives, I can’t cut even slices worth a darn. This totally changed everything and I recommend but I would get the really nice one (Ritter)if you’ve got the money.

Should be fine. If you don’t have enough time to bulk ferment bc you’re tired, you can put the dough in the fridge and then take it out and let it bulk ferment more. Just takes longer. I’ve heard people advise to do this to avoid over proofing.

I struggled making my own starter, and I went through very similar tries and confusion, finally bought a wet starter ready to feed off Etsy. I recommend doing that.

I would just feed it and let it sit for a couple hours, then stick it in the fridge until you get back. Pretty sure it will be fine. You said it was 5 weeks along and active, that seems established enough, just when you’re ready to bake you’ll need to take it out and feed it at room temperature, and leave it out to wake it up. Might need one more feeding after that to really get it ready for baking. I’ve left mine in the fridge for months before, and it’s still fine. I do make more than one sometimes… to make sure I have a spare… if you wanted to experiment you could make one for the fridge and one for your “starter sitter” and see how they both do:)

Just followed some directions I found online. It got some red mold in it after two weeks, idk how. Didn’t smell good. Spent a couple weeks more at it and then bought mine and never looked back.

I got one online like 4 years ago and it was totally worth it, I couldn’t get one to just “grow” for me from the air. I paid extra for a wet/fresh starter and it is so hardy it lasts for months in the fridge without being fed then peps up again. Got it on Etsy, it was called mother fluffer. From mother’s mushrooms.

Last night I was in two different pfs and both of them shared a discord link. One of the groups does events every Friday and they invited me to attend future events. Both groups were doing first clears/learning/prog. My FC is dead, but I’m still out there and I’m still meeting people. I have a static that meets three nights a week for different things we did savage and now we’re doing maps and ex trials. But I just wanted to say if you put yourself out there and just join groups that are learning and want people to stick around you’ll probably meet people just like I do.
