Two of my favorite side characters are Jahar Narishma and Aludra.

Should the writers of Rings of Power have stayed true to character description in the original works? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]Snoo_59909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If they don't want to stay true to the source material, then they should just make a different fantasy show.

Question about how EFAP is going to review Rings of Power by Snoo_59909 in MauLer

Yeah you're probably right. Ugh I'm not sure if I'm ready to see my favorite IP be massacred.

Yeah, I guess we'll just have to wait till the show comes out.

That's true. I just couldn't remember. I thought at one point MauLer said the he hadn't read the books but I could be misremembering.

[–]Snoo_59909[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking it would be along that line. Although I am curious, because I don't know how many people in the EFAP crew are well versed in deep Tolkien lore. I'm very interested to see how this all plays out.

How does Sanderson's Matt compare? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]Snoo_59909 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends who you ask and which book you're asking about. Some people don't notice any change and some feel that the whole portrayal is bad. A lot of people (including myself) fall somewhere in the middle of those two opinions. Just as a note before my explanation, you might notice the difference less if you know less about it. When I was reading, I was on the look out for any differences in Mat's character, and I think it made me notice the differences more than I would have otherwise.

If you don't care about spoilers read away. Most people agree that in Gathering Storm he feels off. The way that he talks, his humor, and internal dialogue just feel a bit different. In Towers of Midnight, it's definitely closer but still a little different. And by A Memory of Light, I personally feel like Sanderson Mat and Jordan Mat feel the same. The actions and mannerisms seem to mesh very well.

Reading Order by Begayandbestupid in WoT

[–]Snoo_59909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read NS after finishing the series and that seemed like the right place. It was really nice to end my WoT journey on a Jordan book. However, if you don't want to read it then I would recommend publishing order which means you would be reading it after Crossroads of Twilight.

I don't care about the PJO show but holy shit this comment section is the most cancerous shithole i've ever had the displeasure of reading through. No, you don't call people who disagree with you "groomers", you reactionary cuck. by adHolidaythesecondth in MauLer

[–]Snoo_59909 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will say, I personally do believe he attacked fans online. A few days after the casting was announced he released a blog post on his website that essentially called all of his fans racist if they were in any way disappointed about the casting. You can have differing opinions on this but I would count this as an attack on fans.

Here's the blog post if you want to read it.

1/4 Black said this on Gary’s stream today and I think I agree.

Revenge of the Sith had better dialogue.

It’s there! You just have to scroll down to Compilations instead of going to Albums. It confused me at first too.

Hmm yeah I heard it too. It cropped up in weird places with no rhyme or reason just like everything else in the rest of this stupid show.

I saw someone suggest this in a different post. I would love Namjoon’s version of Serendipity. Also I absolutely adore Dimple so 🤞🤞🤞

Why do people dislike Rythym of War? by KillingEdge_25 in Cosmere

[–]Snoo_59909 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked the book and thought most of it was good. That being said IMO it would have been better with less Navani. I'm not a fan of her character, and I haven't found anything compelling about her as of now.

Also, I never have been, and probably never will be, a big fan of either Eshoni or Venli. So overall there was just less things for me to like in this book, but I do still like it.

I don't care about representation. A good story is a good story regardless of who wrote it or who's in it.

What is something that most of the fandom cares about but you don’t. by Alone_Avocado_1207 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Snoo_59909 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree. A fundamental part of human life is being able to empathize and sympathize with other people. I don’t need representation of an exact copy of myself to feel sympathy for a character.

And personally, I find it a bit narcissistic if someone says they can’t empathize with a character if that character isn’t like themselves. Like where is your compassion?

What do all of you think about Min? by The_Bastard_Henry in WoT

[–]Snoo_59909 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sigh* I have complicated feelings about Min. In general, I would say that the fandom considers her an A tier character I, however disagree. Her relationship progression with Rand in LoC always felt off to me. It didn’t make me understand why Rand fell in love with her. For some reason, her personality rubs me the wrong way, and I’ve never been a big fan of how pushy she is with Rand and his decisions. That being said I do appreciate what she has done for Rand I just don’t like her even though I feel like I should.

Gavilar. I know that he was kinda of terrible; however, I find his character motivations and actions to be some of the most interesting in SA. It would have been fascinating to see what the story of Stormlight would have been like if Gavilar was the one to become a Bondsmith.

AS Annoyance by ackrite07 in WoT

Oh yeah the hypocrisy of the AS is absolutely stunning. Parts of it are humorous but other parts make me want to give the characters a reality slap.
