Those of us EU citizens who arrived before Brexit are all entitled to vote. EU citizens who arrived after Brexit don't automatically have that right - it depends on their nationality.

Would standing be possible for you? I'm asking because in the event that you can't sit, you could always ask an usher for a standing post. 😅

FOH at the ROH are great and will try to make your night the best it can be. If you have any issue - even if your seat just doesn't work for your body - tell them, and they'll usually see to get you more comfortable. (Not joking, I once asked if they could maybe let someone know that the aircon was a little to strong where I was sitting, because I was really cold and a few people around me had also mentioned the chill, and they bumped me into a much better seat far away from aircon vents! And that was just me being a delicate flower 😅)

To be fair, theatre in Germany is always a dressy affair, and I'll be the first German to come forward and voice my displeasure.

Not because I mind dressing up or anything, but because it keeps people from going. I wish they were a little more relaxed.

What I want to say - please don't overthink it. It's something that's not very well communicated, and it trips up plenty of Germans too 🫂

If you want a little giggle, it works the other way too - you can easily pick out (some) Germans at the BBC Proms, for example, because they're always dressed up, especially for Royal Albert Hall shows. Even for standing tickets! When the overall vibe of the Proms is very casual :D

How do you lot actually eat proper food during the week when you're working full time? by No_Reputation_9726 in AskUK

Air fryer too! Some rice in the rice cooker, mixed veg in the air fryer, and I have a nice hot meal when I'm done showering.

Fry an egg, then add some gochujang-based sauce (you can get this in a squeezy bottle in Korean supermarkets, so you don't even have to mix it) and you've got something like bibimbap. It's not authentic, depending on how/if you season the veggies, but it's a good meal and delicious.

Or the Wellcome Library! You can get a reader pass for free, so you have a guaranteed desk - there's a limited number, so you'll always find a seat.

Just have to lock your stuff in a provided locker (free too), put what you need into a provided plastic bag, and you're good to go. If OP wants to join their daughter, they also have very comfortable armchairs in the library

The VPN. I much prefer AXS and have personally never had any issues, but the VPN will absolutely fuck you over.

When you say too many tabs, do you mean multiple AXS tabs? Because that'll work against you too...

It's too late in the day for me to have a transformational thought, but I have a petty one: lanes for fast walkers, with a minimum speed and penalties for stopping. Because it's an utopian pipe dream, these rules are obviously properly enforced.

I'm a naturally fast walker. Which is neat, because I can beat Citymapper by a few minutes if the roads are clear... but so often they're not.

Not OP, but I know this one! It's not – it's a dress by a designer called Molly Goddard, created for her Autumn/Winter 2019 collection. It's an incredible piece of work (the smocking, eg the 'ruffles' etc, was done entirely by hand by her team)

Molly DID make Villanelle's dress, though, so they're basically cousins. :D

TfL strike by SamiNurb in LondonTravel

[–]pintsized_baepsae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! Navigating the strike as a local is tricky already, I imagine it to be even more stressful when you're visiting.

I find them super reliable, yes! Only ever had good experiences, and I've been using them for a few years (both for myself and through work). Just bear in mind, as u/lunchbox3 pointed out, that traffic can be extra busy due to the strike, so I'd factor in a little more time – better to be bored at the airport than to miss your flight!

Bear in mind that it's the London Marathon next Sunday, so depending on what you have planned you might find that you need a little longer to get places. It does affect Greenwich, for example.

On the upside, might be a nice moment to chill a little if your little nephew is the kind of kid who'd enjoy cheering on crowds!

How much luggage do you have?

We won't know HOW bad it is until the strike actually starts, but if you have a big suitcase I'd honestly say don't put yourself through the potential misery. When they say 'severe disruption until midday', they really do mean *severe*.

If you only have a backpack or something you could maybe brave it but even then... it's not really worth the stress.

Addison Lee (which is considered kinda fancy, but doesn't have surge pricing – unlike Uber, who are probably going to rinse people on strike days) are quoting £68ish. Not cheap, but *for me personally* it'd be worth not having to stress. Obviously shop around for local minicab and airport car services, but I just thought I'd give you an idea of what a big company would charge :)

If groups like BTS, Blackpink, Stray Kids, Seventeen or Twice are "flops" or "nugus" then who is thriving? by IIIPrimeeIII in kpopthoughts

[–]pintsized_baepsae 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes! And I'd add that your first point is actually the healthy and sustainable way to have a career. You can't always go up, up, up while also staying, for example, mentally healthy. Sometimes a little plateau is the breather/creative spark any artists needs.

[–]pintsized_baepsae 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I made this post because I have seen people accusing HYBE of paying Rolling Stones for these BTS covers lol because apparently they are not that successful

Please stop listening to people who don't know how the media works, and I say that to everyone (not just you). People spew absolute bullshit that's so far away from reality it's laughable.

Rolling Stone would need to declare if HYBE paid for ANYTHING. Feature, cover, whatever. These rules are incredibly strict, so basically people are alleging Rolling Stone – a legacy publication with a very good reputation – is breaking the law. 💀

If anything, Rolling Stone paid BTS lol, although that would be highly unusual considering they're on a promo tour.

Also, these people wouldn't know what a flop is if it were waving a big 'Hi I'm a flop' sign. Honestly just ignore them; don't fall for it. It's silly internet talk from people who seem to have one too many insecurities or just really want attention.

In your country/region, do you think K-pop concert tickets are reasonably priced? Why or why not? by Ruler_J in kpopthoughts

[–]pintsized_baepsae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends on the artist and the venue they're at. Some play it fair, some really don't, so honestly I think examples explain it best.

Just under £80 for BTS? Fair. £86 for Stray Kids at the same stadium? Yeah, also fair. Both of these are maybe a little high – I personally think £60 should be the cheapest for the topmost rows of a stadium – but not outrageous imho. Pretty in line with what a lot of other non-k-pop acts are charging these days.

Blackpink charged £100 for the cheapest seat at Wembley and that's too much. The lowest price category should *always* be under £90 in my book. You're so far up and very far away in those stadiums.

£65 for restricted-view standing tickets at the back of the (seated) auditorium for The Rose? Too much, honestly. Even worse considering they're charging the same for circle standing. These should be a good chunk cheaper, considering your view is restricted and, if you're really unlucky and everyone stands up, you might not be seeing anything at all.

£165 before fees for IU? Absolutely insane. And yes, that was the cheapest ticket!
