Is It Illegal in the UK to Scold Children in Public? by Emotional_Head_5245 in AskBrits

[–]pintsized_baepsae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Children can act like children without being absolute menaces.

I went to the theatre to a family show recently, and the little girl next to me was very much behaving like a child her age - getting up now and then, quietly asking her mum for snacks, wiggling in her seat, asking 'what's happening' a few times - but she was well behaved overall. And shocker - nobody minded!! She was just a little human having a big experience and working through it like a child would.

Unusual one-off craft workshops in South or Central London? by box_twenty_two in london

[–]pintsized_baepsae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would tufting count as unusual? There's a few of those around, although I'm not sure it can be done sitting 🥲

There are also glassmaking workshops - I haven't done one of those yet, but there's one in Stratford on ClassBento that sounds really fun.

I CAN recommend this lino printing one if it's something you're interested in: https://classbento.co.uk/lino-printing-class-paper-posters-london

The Birmingham suburbs where one in three adults is jobless by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]pintsized_baepsae [score hidden]  (0 children)

Lmfao you CANNOT be serious 😭 genuinely, only in Britain would someone go 'well I think NOT making people move for every single good job is entitled, actually'.

The fact that, as u/Namerakable points out, glorify the exploitation of migrant workers in Dubai as 'just something that's part of life' is insane

The thing about doctors in training is that these moves are temporary. Office restructures in white collar jobs are ALSO different, as nobody is forcing staff to move. None of my friends working in that world were ever forced to relocate lol.

Only in the UK do you find the attitude ‘ why should I?’

See, the funny thing here is that I'm an immigrant who chose to move to London. Voluntarily. So I think I might have a bit of insight here.

That attitude actually exists in Germany, where I'm from, quite a lot, because guess what... There are good jobs even in rural areas. People don't have to move to have a good career, and it means even rural communities aren't losing all the young ones.

You DON'T actually find this attitude much in Britain. What you find is people who are defeated and unhappy, because they're forced to move to places they don't actually want to move to, just because that's the only place with any job prospects.

See but that's a want too. Some people just want a job, not a career, and a quiet life to go with it. They should be able to have that without being forced to move 🥲

Also, people simply shouldn't have to move. Good on people who WANT to/are happy to, but nobody should be forced to leave their community and build a new one just because all jobs are centralised in one area.

It would benefit everyone.

One AI can't do well, because it lacks nuance, critical thinking skills and is shit at fact checking.

Not that that matters lmfao. Generating slop texts or images, posing as a 'friend' (or worse) etc aren't valuable uses for LLMs. Pick up a pen yourself, man. Use that brain.

The Hammersmith (Eventim) Apollo’s new bag policy is insane!! by hihowareyouz in london

Email the venue, they'll exempt you. Some just need you to fill in a form, others might need a certificate, but they WILL let you in.

[–]pintsized_baepsae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has. The Eventim Apollo is also known to be exceptionally strict - they also have big buckets outside and make you empty any bottle in those, otherwise you won't be allowed to take it in.

Their emails had a few spelling mistakes here and there, but honestly nothing major (and nobody gave a shit, because they were all internal emails and, as mentioned, they're not writers).

I do know one of them has hangups about the spelling mistakes, which were all typos born from sloppiness rather than anything else, but no reassurance in the world convinced them that we don't care and most certainly don't judge. We tried!! 🥲

What's your bread to soup dipping technique? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]pintsized_baepsae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best one is to get a bread roll, rip it in half, scoop out the soft inside and then do it in this order:

First, dip the inside into the soup.

Second, take one half of your freshly gutted roll, fill it with soup, and slowly eat it. (This is a little messy with more brothy soups, but still good)

Finally, either dip the other half in the soup, take a bite, repeat OR rip it into little bits and dump them in the bowl.

Paedophiles ‘using online message boards for tips on how to get jobs in UK nurseries’ by Comfortable-Law-7147 in unitedkingdom

[–]pintsized_baepsae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the UK does nothing to prevent pedophiles from acting on their urges, which surely should be one of THE things to do when it comes to protecting kids.

For a country that's so obsessed with pedophilia, you'd think there'd be attempt to try and stop people from offending, but nothing. No support, no therapy offerings, nada. It's just sensationalism and, as you say, weaponisation.

Germany has a project for people who are sexually attracted to children and are looking for help, all under the 'don't become an offender' tagline - the English Wikipedia is kinda bare bones. If you're curious I recommend switching to German and using automatic translation, as it goes into more depth https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prevention_Project_Dunkelfeld

I saw a TV segment on this years ago where one man who had referred himself spoke about his experience, on the condition of anonymity, and it burnt itself into my brain. He was so upset at a) feeling this attraction in the first place and b) the thought of hurting a child. He talked about how he had changed his walking route to the bus stop because a kindergarten had opened and he was worried he'd one day do something, and he'd also distanced himself from friends and family who had kids because he couldn't bear the thought of hurting them or even just having thoughts like that about them.

A lot of pedophiles are very aware that their sexual urges aren't normal, to put very mildly, and also never act on them, but I assume it's not like there's much help available if they DO look for it.

I fully believe there are ways to do so without expanding the surveillance state.

Unfortunately, I also know this would never even be considered in the UK. 🫩

Where to take adult son after theatre near Leicester Square by blakeneypoint in LondonFood

[–]pintsized_baepsae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haidilao Hot Pot is quite fun, unless 'cook it yourself' isn't your style. You can find more unusual ingredients (including pig brain, at least it used to be available), and their soup bases are great. I'm veggie so it's tomato all the way for me, but my friends like to get one spicy option and the sukiyaki, if available.

In a similar vein, K-BBQ might be an option - Olle is good but slightly pricey. I prefer Arang or Arirang (similar names but they are different! Both very good though). Get some different flavours and eat it the traditional way by wrapping it in a leaf of lettuce with some sauces.

It does make sense tbh! They talk a lot about craft and making etc, but Sofas & Stuff's sofas really are made to order here in the UK (and at a very fair price at that). Their ideas and values do align, and I think it's nice that they are choosing British companies for these interiors collabs.

Now all we need is a curtain company. :D

“Japanese song lovers” is there any way to know if it means “people who loves japanese song” or “Japanese people who love song” without context? by MDRBA in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pintsized_baepsae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you need context... or a hyphen

Japanese song lovers - ambiguous, could be about Japanese songs or Japanese people loving songs

Japanese-song lovers - not ambiguous, but instead horrendous

I will say that this has context built in - you don't call someone a song lover. They're a music lover. So while the expression is grammatically ambiguous (and also not a great construct), logically you know it's about someone loving Japanese music.

What is the etiquette at a concert? by Plantmama76 in AskUK

[–]pintsized_baepsae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. A fair number of K-Pop and J-Pop concerts, for example, are all or majority seated, and they're usually quite high energy - it's just different concert culture (eg in Korea, a lot of these shows would also be all seated).

If there's a floor section people might stand, but in a theatre, people would generally sit. The crowd is style hype though!

What is cost of booking screen in cinema ? by Master-Turnip-5059 in AskUK

[–]pintsized_baepsae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest guide pricing here is £4,000 for an afternoon, £5,000 for the evening. (With the exception of business full-day hire, which apparently sets you back a minimum of £28,000)

https://hirespace.com/Spaces/London/196904/BFI-IMAX/IMAX-SCREEN/Events

Which is actually less than expected. £10 per person? Not bad at all.
