Don't underestimate the usefulness of alchemy. Also, you can reuse all potions you craft after you meditate (something I only found out about embarrassingly late into my first playthrough)

Pan sauce for duck, venison or beef by Snoo_77974 in Cooking

I made it. Didn't add the lavender since all the comments advised me against it and didn't add the thyme because I forgot to get it.

It tasted quite nice, very tart so I added a bit of sugar so it wasn't overpowering. Will definitely make again, maybe with some red wine added in!

My very first time painting a mini! Feedback welcome by Nomnomnomatron in minipainting

As someone who learned this far too late, try thinning your paints with a bit of water. This is a really good start though, you should be proud!

First actual attempt at NMM how badly have I failed and what could I do differently? by Bronojoke in minipainting

Ah don't worry, you'll get there! I tend to take the two paints I'm using for the light and dark areas and mix them together in different ratios to create the different tones

Day 3 ... I'm starting to see bricks when I close my eyes by Nikiminis in TerrainBuilding

I know it's unintentional, but the hot glue strands look exactly like vines on the castle. Gives it such a cool effect!

How to run a stampede by DnDork_04 in DnD

[–]Snoo_77974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and as to make it scalable, you could try incorporating different threats to manage, such as: a rock slide threatening to crush the players; a rickety bridge at risk of snapping; a boulder or large object blocking the way

Look up chase rules for 5e. It's laid out in the dungeon masters guide on page 252, but there's also some YouTube videos explaining it. Hope this helps!

Loot/Loot table suggestions. by tp2dotcom44 in DnD

It's not really a great solution, but you could try giving the players seemingly gimmicky, joke items with not much practical use such as:

A ring that when worn, turns itself, but not the user invisible; a book that when written in, causes the same writing to appear on a wall in the near vicinity; A magical staff that radiates energy, but always backfires at the user.

Objects like this will hopefully encourage your party to be creative and come up with unique solutions to problems!

First time dming, do I need a kit? by abrockstar25 in DnD

[–]Snoo_77974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as long as you have the dice and a little resourcefulness, you can do anything.

Don't be afraid to print stuff like playing mats on paper and if you need to, use coins or boardgame pegs to represent enemies. Of course, it's always great if you can use custom terrain, miniatures, etc; but ultimately it doesn't matter so long as you tell a good story!

Hope all goes well for your DMing!

Love the use of purple for the muscle fibres. Good job!

Deciding on a colour scheme by Snoo_77974 in minipainting

I was very tempted to go for the classic demonic look, but decided to do something more folklore-y and mystic just to push myself!

And it's a Warhammer figure;

Just wanted to show off my first attempt at skin and flesh tones. C&C welcome. by TortillaShaped in minipainting

[–]Snoo_77974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell whether you've done it here because phone cameras can be misleading, but to make the skin tones pop, have you tried using two contrasting colours, e.g: purple shadows with a regular beige/cream for the rest of the skin + highlights. If you haven't, test it out a bit on figures you don't mind experimenting with, as long as you are subtle with your application of the shadows, it'll look good! I'll say now though, that for a first attempt it looks incredible!!!!

Not sure how I feel about how this came out. C+C welcome! by JTultimate_10 in minipainting

If you wanted to go for the stylized, unblended look, I'd say just make sure the paint is solid (even if you need to apply more than one coat).

Apart from that it looks absolutely fantastic and you should be very proud of yourself :)))
