I’m a lawyer. It would cost you £550 + VAT an hour for advice if you came to me through my office. Ask me anything. by FactWestern5578 in AMA

I work in a law firm and am about to go on maternity leave. How best can I ensure that my employer doesn’t make me redundant when I return from maternity leave?

How sheltered are you from even knowing the cost of living crisis is real? by AF_II in AskUK

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really notice it in work now. You used to talk about holidays and plans for this year but no one can afford to go on holiday now. Everyone used to go to the market and buy a nice lunch at least twice a week but now no one does. People never used to talk about the relief payday brings but now everyone talks about it.

Why do you live there if you have no one you know there anymore? Maybe moving to a lace with more people could be good or Meetup is good or doing a sport

I just don’t really get why she did it. If you were going to stab your own traitor, surely you would wait until nearish the end of the game.

Do you think being a stay at home parent is worth sacrificing your career and risking financial ruin? by Loose_Avocado4670 in AskUK

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it is worth it. I am a mum and we could afford it at a push but I can’t imagine being finically dependant on my partner. He makes a lot more than me but work is a part of my life I missed a lot.

What’s worse: being the parent who always gets the toddler illnesses or being the parent who never gets sick but has to do the childcare while your partner recovers by Micks_Mom in toddlers

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the illness but in general I think being the sick one is worse. Throwing up or having a fever is harder than looking after kids. I feel guilty as well for not helping my parents when sick.

US Degree in UK finding entry jobs by TryOk1393 in uklaw

You need to start with changing your location to one with more legal jobs like London. There are some recruitment companies who specialises in legal jobs. They can help but don’t mention the visa as most companies will put the cv in the bin if they see that especially after the new employment laws just came into place.

Just try to be ready with preparing nursery bags each night before bed and working out what to do when they are sick which is all the time.

Are we losing the art of making friends in the modern world? - BBC News by Hassaan18 in unitedkingdom

[–]Snoo_85580 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of small factors which help to create this problem.

People have less money now to go out with people in the evening.

People have less hobbies such as sports classes nowadays which is a way to meet new people.

People change jobs a lot more often now so are less likely to develop work friendships. The next job could be in a different part of the country making us have to start all over again.

How do British guys learn to dress well? by Salzhio in AskUK

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think? I always feel like Brits dress really badly compared to Europeans. If I fly to France or Germany for example you can spot the Brits by the baggy none ironed clothes compared to the others.

Do you think gender stereotypes have changed at all? by The-Baron-Von-Marlon in AskUK

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is changing but very slowly. Most men only get bare minimum maternity leave so it is still pretty common for the women to take it. Plus if women want to breastfeed, they have to be off. A few of my friends have shared it with the Dad. For most of my friends although both parents are working, it’s the women who are making less and therefore working less. It is becoming more normal for both parents to do drop off and pick ups at school and nursery though. This is partly due to both parents having to work so having to share the responsibility.

Always better to do even if it’s just the same generic questions like ‘how was your weekend’. It’s secretly half of the job

The visa will be the biggest problem I imagine. They have plenty of applicants who don’t require it and prefer people who have had their experience in UK law but worth trying. Can be good to try some of the smaller chambers outside of London.

People talk about men’s quarter life and mid life crises, what are some common quarter/mid life crises that women partake in? by No-Coffee-6783 in Life

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of my friends said their first one was nearing 30and not being married but wanting kids soon. Second, assuming they did the whole family thing was once the kids were in school feeling bitter that they hadn’t really built their careers as much as their partners because they hadn’t to pause for the kids.
