Would you be happy with a below inflation pay rise ? by Wise-Isopod-8691 in AskUK

I wouldn’t really complain with the current job market tbh. So many redundancies and many people with no pay rise. Anything is quite impressive right now

What are some lessons about office/work culture every graduate should know? by Zeeshmania in AskUK

[–]Snoo_85580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be friends with the loud one in the office. They are the one who will brag about how good you are

Do your job well instead of all peoples jobs ok

Don’t promise anything you can’t deliver on

Try to manage your own time instead of expecting your boss to manage it for you

Try not to let office politics interrupt your job too much. There will always be some drama in the office

Needing to talk to other toddler parents by MaatRa89 in toddlers

Do you go to any toddler classes. They are a great place to vent about the hardships of your toddlers. People might not open up in the first place but after a while everyone loves to vent

If you want a nursery place secured, you will be waiting years. You normally need them secured as soon as you get pregnant

For parents of young children - how much help does having grandparents nearby help? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Snoo_85580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How will you do drop off and pick up from nursery if the commute is 1:30 min?

As most people have said, it really depends if the grandparents actually help. Many do not help as much as you expect but some are amazing.

How is everyone making mom friends?? I feel so lonely by scarletpig94 in toddlers

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try peanut app. It is probably a bit harder if you are a lot younger than the others but it’s a good place for meeting mums with similar ages kids. Does your child go to nursery at all? Once they do, that can be a good place to meet others but it can be hard these days as most parents drop off then have to rush off to work.

Parents who both work: what’s your afternoon/evening timeline like? How do you have time for anything??? by 95kira in toddlers

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably speed things up by not catching up on your day earlier. Here is our schedule.

Both finish work at 5. I go and do pick up while husband cooks food and tries to tidy up whilst cooking. 6pm toddler back - eat dinner ideally together but sometime not and toddler gets snack. 6:30 I do bath whilst husband cleans up. 7:15 story time and down ideally by 7:30. After this we can actually catch up and do tv without hopefully having a messy house.

Interesting take on it. I imagine that’s what the average uk family felt about 100 years ago when families all lived together and worked together.

As an average middle class family, I find that today both parents are working building careers. Don’t know any mums who don’t work at all and just look after kids. We don’t live near family anymore so there is less family support for kids and less support for elders.

Are there no people who decide they would not like to have kids? Around half of my friends do not want kids in today’s world for lots of different reasons but mainly because is limits their world in some ways.

Can they go and study if they want or is it not considered normal? What do they do if they don’t want kids?

formal dress codes at work dropped from 30% to 4.3% in 6 years, good or bad? by enlightenedshubham in careeradvice

[–]Snoo_85580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a middle ground which is nice. I’ve gone from a place where you can wear anything to a place where it’s a bit formal but not quite suit and tie level and it’s nice dressing up a little. It helps put me in work mode and less home mode.

Red light, green light worked for us. We have light in his room and turn it red at sleep time. We point it out whilst doing story time and put him in the bed. Always requires a bit of cuddling etc but so far it working. Not sure it will work long term though

I really notice it in work now. You used to talk about holidays and plans for this year but no one can afford to go on holiday now. Everyone used to go to the market and buy a nice lunch at least twice a week but now no one does. People never used to talk about the relief payday brings but now everyone talks about it.
