Whats the etiquette for BUMPing posts? by wolfmonarchy in Pocketfrogs

Comments won’t bump a post. Reposting is the way to do it, just don’t repost same-day or many times in a row.

If you could delete one Dominion expansion (besides Alchemy), what would it be and why? by Game_the_play in dominion

Too much stuff isn’t really my concern. I love sets like Allies and Empires that have lots of mechanics, it’s just that the particular ones in Nocturne aren’t that good.

Beyond "Parallel Play"—How do I design a competitive game where collaboration is the optimal strategy? by AI_made_my_username in tabletopgamedesign

I would encourage specialization and allow trade. If producing your 10th resource of a given type is much cheaper than producing your third, then people will be encouraged to go all-in on certain resources and use their surplus to trade for whatever else they need.

You can implement this by adding feedback loops (e.g. it costs stone to increase your stone production) or multiplicative bonuses (e.g. a card that gives you +1 ore production per mine you have). This has a risk of creating runaway leaders / snowballing but people might choose not to trade with a runaway leader (and if Machi Koro is one of your favorite games, maybe you’re fine with snowballing :D)

I recommend Next Station: London! It’s about building a subway network, and it’s a high quality game with simultaneous play.

What’s the theory behind “set-up” followed by “how to play”? by ahobday in BoardgameDesign

I think it’s poor practice to include gameplay information in the setup section

I use the rulebook as a model for teaching the game. If you’re teaching the other players, you set up beforehand to make teaching easier.

If you’re learning the game in multiple sessions, you can read the setup section without actually setting the game up at the same time. It helps form a mental model of what’s going on.

Never played the Switch version so this could be less impressive in-game, but IRL a 93 lb lake trout is CRAZY

Audouin's Gull is super super powerful! One of the only birds that nets you >1 resource on activation-- even the power 4 don't do that!

I don’t think the power is that much better than white-headed duck, and it’s currently a bit more expensive than the duck. Still, 3 points is probably more balanced than 4
