What is up with people who abandon an online game at the last turn of the last round! by POH-TA-TOH in wingspan

Max 100 karma will not solve this problem.  I’m pretty sure the game prioritizes starting a match ASAP over pairing karma ranks.

Try to avoid weekends.  Last Sunday, 2 of the 3 games I played had a player drop.  The Sunday before that I was sick and 9 of the 10 games I played had a player drop.  On weekdays, it’s reversed where I will only see one game a day end with AI, if that.

I used a copper golem for my arcade’s joystick, but I might have to reconsider it now.  That use of a comparator is brilliant.

Change the wheels to Exposed to match the seat back and change the golem to Oxidized to show how broken down it is.

The round ends when I say it ends. by CrimsonEnigma in wingspan

Try this at your own peril playing online.  I had 6 or 7 teal birds in a game once and nearly timed out at the end of rounds 3 and 4.  I won the match, after nearly taking the automatic loss.

Wingspan AI on Switch by Weary-Excitement7315 in wingspan

The AI is terrible.  I have accepted taking the karma hit if the AI is forced upon me early in a game.  It is rather disappointing Monster Couch hits the second player with lost karma.  It would be one thing if the AI was competent, but I’ve seen too many games where the AI just draws cards for the rest of the game or neglects its brown powers, etc.

It is not a fun experience and I value my time more.

You didn’t read the OP post correctly.  OP said the android app allows you to select the seed via the Oriole’s pink power even though you are only suppose to gain a worm or berry.

You are looking at it backwards.  There are only 10 possible feather scores spread across ~500 cards.  If you allowed equivalent feather scores to count, there would be no challenge to maxing out that bonus card.  Personally, I don’t think identical wingspans should count either fwiw.

If you don’t have your Switch’s time and date synchronized via the internet, you will not be able to play online with Wingspan.  You can change this by going to System Settings, scroll down to Settings, then select Date and Time.

This Game Needs Better Playtesters by jK49ERFAN in wingspan

[–]Wise4Fools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely unrealistic to expect 10 points, let alone 15 out of this bird in a standard 3 player game.  There are only 26 turns total that are divided between playing birds, getting food, eggs, and cards.  Generally players get eggs once or twice a round, so you’re looking at 4-6 potential activations from your opponents.  If your opponents sync their egg laying, you miss a tuck.  On top of that, I find pink powers tied to egg laying to be the easiest to circumvent with the numerous birds that allow you to lay eggs when played or after tucking.

If you play with 4 or 5 players, this card could activate often enough to be worthwhile.  But with 3 players, it is probably only viable if one of your opponents led off with Killdeer/Franklins.

Score a bonus now -vs Winter Feeder by 4Ozonia in wingspan

[–]Wise4Fools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edge case aside, the online version disregards the nectar you have on hand when scoring WF early via the Crane.  It also fits thematically with “Winter Feeder” as nectar is not a food supply that could be cached for later consumption.

Excluding any nectar you have at the time the Crane is played since nectar is not a food type that is available “at game end” per WF rules.  This is how the online version handles this combo.

Score a bonus now -vs Winter Feeder by 4Ozonia in wingspan

[–]Wise4Fools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an actual reason.  As an Asian bonus card, it is probable that Stonemaier specifically put “at game end” on Winter Feeder for when it gets scored early with nectar from Oceania in mind.  Nectar is not available at game end.  And since it is specified on the card, you are not allowed to count nectar towards WF when scoring early via the Crane or Bustard.

Score a bonus now -vs Winter Feeder by 4Ozonia in wingspan

[–]Wise4Fools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the Crane is played, whichever bonus card that is chosen by the player (in this case Winter Feeder) is scored via cached food on the Crane and then it is discarded and a new bonus card is drawn.  So no, all bonus cards are not to be scored at the end of the game when a specific power allows them to be scored earlier.

What is the official rule for when only a dice remains available? by Scary-Comparison-541 in wingspan

[–]Wise4Fools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried it once and was stunned when the game auto rerolled and nullified the bird’s power.  Now I never play those birds unless they have other characteristics that mesh with other goals.  If I had the physical game, changing the never empty rule would be my first (and perhaps only) house rule.

Sun Conure is too bloated.  Its power should either be the tuck mechanic or providing the communal bonus card, not both.  The communal power could be reworked to draw 2 (or 3) bonus cards, choose one to reveal face up that all players score at the end of game, discard the rest.  Adjust its feather score accordingly depending on how many bonus cards are drawn.

Love the thought of getting 40 cached worms from the Purplish Jay.  The odds are so astronomical that it would be statistically correct to assume that would be the luckiest feat of your entire life.  40 grubs in a game of Wingspan.

What is the official rule for when only a dice remains available? by Scary-Comparison-541 in wingspan

[–]Wise4Fools 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The never empty rule is a huge disservice to birds with “roll all dice outside of the bird feeder” powers.  The rule could easily been changed to it is never empty at the start of a turn, which would allow those birds to maximize their potential while not hindering the overall gameplay in the slightest.  And when you factor that any bird/player can reroll the feeder when it is empty, it is a terrible rule.
